My brain is firing on all cylinders this morning. I saw the diagnostics papers on the thumbnail and my first thought was "wow I wonder what the goat SAT is like, is it tricks or puzzle solving or what?"

I’d be curious to hear your take on grain vs hay. And how that does or does not affect longevity

@@PackGoatscomI watched it, is that your only take on it. In horses it’s not that uncommon for people to take them off of grain due to inflammation. Was curious if you had ever thought on that topic. Or just spit balling now perhaps grain is tougher on teeth so they grind them away quick

@@trapperensor6608 sorry I thought you were asking about urinary calculi as that’s what most people are curious about when they ask that question. Are you asking about grain as it relates to does? or wethers?

@@PackGoatscomI suppose more does, but it relates back to more of a question of wild goat ancestors which were not developed on high amounts of grain. I guess the best comparison would be humans who have turned away from processed foods and stuck more to Whole Foods. In humans processed foods cause inflammation, obesity, heart problems, etc. I was curious if you had a take on grains more in that sense. I raised horned sheep for hunting ranches and protein is fed heavily, but when you compare that to the wild sheep of Asia it seems like for longevity heavy grain might not be the way to go.

I only give grain to does along with electrolytes 30 days before kidding to avoid ketosis and only on the milk stand while they are being milked as a treat and reward and some extra calories for production. Other than those two applications I never feed grain. Just high quality browse, grass hay and alfalfa to the does and grass hay to my wethers. @@trapperensor6608
