This video contains footages from the FIRST VOYAGE on my new ship heading straight into a stormy weather.
We were lucky that the storm was detected earlier & corrective actions were taken as deemed necessary.
Sailing on smaller ships poses more dangers as you will witness in the video. The freeboard is less & the chances of water ingress are more. This demands for more vigilance & safety as even a small mistake can lead to huge damages of life, cargo & environment.
Merchant Navy poses great risks and dangers at all times, therefore is a well paid job.
Enjoy the video & don't forget to give it a big thumbs up if you found the video informative .
Also for those who are new to the channel - I am Karanvir Singh Nayyar , a second officer in Maersk , vlogging my Life At Sea Journey.

My father served in the U.S. Navy from 1929 to 1949. Most of his time was spent on destroyers. His stories of sailing through a typhoon scared me to death as a small child. His ship, the Walker, came completely out of the water a couple times. Back then weather forecasting at sea was more of a guess than science. Enjoyed your video very much but can't imagine sailing a Fletcher Class destroyer in a storm like that.
I went on to become a military pilot and retired from the airlines flying a B-777. Got to love modern meteorology.

Thanks so much for this great video from your voyage KSN! While you may enjoy and appreciate the peace and beauty on the open ocean, I got more than my fill for my entire lifetime during my time in the US Navy on board Aircraft Carriers. Some of my time was even spent cruising through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and then out into the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, so I've seen a whole lot of that ocean... Enough for a lifetime!
Anyway, thanks again for this. It's great riding along with you on your voyage and seeing it from the safety of my office.. in the middle of Kansas, USA.. Heh.

Instead of following other people on TH-cam who just share their mundane daily activities, I find it really fascinating to know and understand the life of a sailor like yourself. You are doing a great job shooting all these precious moments, which in later life (after you retire) will be cherished by your loved ones saying we have a great guy with us who has seen life which no one has ever imagined. One more thing that inspired me to subscribe to your channel and watch your videos was your little insights on life that you give at end of the videos and in between shots too. Plus I am a nature lover, sea lover... It's really captivating to watch how you explain all the technical terms even, which we common people would have never heard of, as in regarding weather forecasts, the Swell as you mentioned in this video. Also it's a great work that you are doing documenting all of this which will also help those who wish to pursue this same career. Keep doing this Great work 👍👍👍

Storms / rough seas become part and parcel of any seafarer's life. It is rare where one goes through an entire contact without being confronted by rough seas. It does become unpleasant if rough weather never abates as there is some amount of discomfort on the bridge. Any bridge watch keeper looks forward to the watch passing fast and then retire to the cabin and stretch out on the bunk. It's the galley staff who see a trying time as they cannot skip preparing meals but they still manage to cook and serve soup too !!

@@MohdZakir-xp8im The ship is bound for ports in West Africa. If Lagos is included, the distance from Singapore via Cape of Good Hope is about 8200 miles. At 20 knots, it will take about 17 days. If the route is via the Suez Canal, the distance is about 10,000 miles and it will take 21 days. Add Canal expenses too. Ships choose the shortest and the more economical route. Ships are built to withstand storms and rough seas. And seafarers are expected to accept this part of sea life as 'normal' !!

Transiting the I.O. is always fun. I sailed aboard an LPD and an LSD (US Navy Amphibious Warfare vessels) which are very tiny compared to your ship. We were always in for a ride when we hit the I.O.! I have photos of the deck angle compared to the horizon looking like we were about to capsize!
