    Not a year goes by where I don't play Author Author, still one of my top 10 albums of all time. Fabulous!

    There’s a legendary tale in our small town of a lad ( RIP D.A) that saw Scars at a gig in London and was put on the Guest List for the Cardiff show on proviso he brought some Welsh Cakes along to the gig .which he did .
    Horrorshow :the soundtrack to my 1979

      Oh yes. The Scars just encapsulated the Post Punk movement which was not angry but positive and uplifting. Happy days when anything seemed possible.

    My band opened for The Scars iin Preston Jalgoes club in Sep 1980, a brilliant gig, John Mackie's bass playing to me was amazing along with Callum's drumming

    I did not know that this was here ! A great piece of film. Marvellous records (especially Adultery/ Horrorshow). The sound was unique. The songs were really good. I hope that you are all still friends.

    My dad works with Callum, and I went to school with his son, I distinctly remember the first time we went to their house, Callum's sons were playing in the garage, some things never change

    Saw the Scars play New York at the Left Bank club in Mount Vernon. At end of the show Band members left the stage without informing Robert He seemed miffed. Lots of tension in the air.

    I kinda wish this had been an extra on the DVD, but I'm really glad it's up on TH-cam so we could see it on any format and enjoy. Paul's trepidation about recording in the interview reminds me a lot of comments he made about Author! Author! on a FB post I made, where I believe I posted a link to the full "All About You" video (minus the interview) that I found on another channel I subscribe to. I guess he was really, really concerned the sound wasn't going to be as good if it wasn't a harder-edged, rougher sound? If so, he was worried for nothing because Author! Author! was a masterpiece and "All About You" a perfect song. Oh, and it was great seeing you in the interviews on here and the Big Gold Dream documentary! That was really awesome to see. :)

      Thanks ... I don't think that Big Gold Dream was the documentary that Grant actually set out to make in the beginning, but he discovered the story of Fast and the Edinburgh scene in the process. Great guy, and talented film maker.

      That bass and another guitar got nicked at a gig in Leeds shortly after. I got my Peavey T-40 after that.

    The sound difference between their earlier work and the album shows that they were heavily influenced by the record label. They had to go more commercial to stand any chance hence the sudden new romantic garb etc. There then followed the difficult second album which simply didnt happen. This is very common with bands who dont know what direction to go in, are taken in by a large label and manipulated then spat out. But the album remains a superb record that i listen to frequently and maybe it was for the best there was no disappointing follow up.

    Given the success of the reunion gig, was there never a possibility of re-forming or was it always going to be a one-off event?

    • @scoorieboy
      @scoorieboy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Didn't know at the time, but it seems very unlikely at this point.

      The re-union gig was pretty good, but didn't think much of the support groups like Ball Boy.

    Did 'big gold dream' come out of the plannned 'sound of young scotland"? I remember seeing a trailer on myspace many moons ago. Anyway, thanks for this from an old leither.

    • @scoorieboy
      @scoorieboy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I think so. I think Grant realised that there was a lot more story to be told from below the surface. Bit like an iceberg.

    Is there any chance of a collection of unreleased material being put together , with some historic flyers / artwork ? Please ....

    • @scoorieboy
      @scoorieboy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have uploaded all the unreleased material I have onto this channel .... sometimes I make videos to go with them. As for flyers etc.- most of that stuff is lost in the sands of time i'm afraid.

      There's something very pleasing about the Love Song video.

  • @doctorfeelfunny584
    @doctorfeelfunny584 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Horrorshow, Adult/ery, Author Author, They Came and Took Her, Love Song - PHENOMENAL and ORIGINAL songs.
    After that, they became less original and faded away. I'm assuming it was forces outside the band that squashed the originality. Incredibly depressing....

    • @scoorieboy
      @scoorieboy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually we needed no outside help to implode. True, the early stuff on fast had a different feel to it - but opinion is divided. Some who loved the Fast Product era material were not so keen on Author Author, while many consider AA our finest and most original work. All very subjective really I suppose. Conflicting demons inside the band gave the whole project edge and tension for sure, especially live ... but this would ultimately destroy it all too. And yes - at the time it was incredibly depressing.

    • @doctorfeelfunny584
      @doctorfeelfunny584 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's definitely subjective. I really love the energy and rawness of the early stuff. I thought the album was more commercial and pop. I like a bunch of the tracks, but they don't seem "special" to me.
      The fact that you're responding to me directly is a very good feeling. Thanks for keeping up with the fans. Your Love Song vid is so fucking cool.
