    Greg, it's an amazing life you've worked hard to build for yourself, I'm very happy for you ... I'm even more happy for myself that I get a bit of vicarious satisfaction from your very kind sharing of your experiences and learned wisdom here.

    Just finished your second book, good stuff. Just everything you do makes my heart swell. It's so right. So many people just don't care about true health, land, good food, etc. anymore, and if they do they're shooting in the dark. You have found the real thing. Thank you for sharing!

    I had all giant white pines in my pasture, what a job I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But it's beautiful silvo pasture now. I have birds, butterflies. If it was all hardwoods I probably wouldn't have cleared it.

    I'm thinning mine now for the fencing, getting goats to help with the clearing and then I'll be making brushpiles, getting out firewood, and dragging some rotting logs to my compost/garden area, to improve the biology there. I got some Crossbow yesterday.

    Thanks again for all your videos! John my son was hoping to see the trees fall. He loves to come with me to saw wood along with my other kids too.

    So proud everyone is using the safety gear. Saving a leg, head and ears is a good thing!

    A tremendous thing going on there. Living on the land and using it does not have to be a bad thing. You can improve the soil, improve the plants and improve the habitat for the animals. That tells me everybody doesn't need to be in a city to protect Mother Nature. The Large Cities are a blight on the land and on the people who live in them. People can live on the land and improve it when they care to.

    Looking great Greg. Super good help you have there. I'm working on a 6 acre section of my farm doing similar, making silvo pasture. I hope to find a good source of sheep here in Maine. Most likely will be Katahdin since I can't seem to find any St. Croix.

    • @davidhickenbottom6574
      @davidhickenbottom6574 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Where are you in Maine, I'm in Palmer Mass. I just have a tiny farm with some steers and 1 heifer bred to Greg's bull. I would like to have sheep but worry about predators.

    • @georgeheller2281
      @georgeheller2281 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Katahdin sheep are tough as well, I have katahdin ewes with st Croix rams. They have shown great parasite resistance. Also Katahdin sheep were developed using st Croix as part of the initial breeding. If your animals are thriving on your farm they are just fine.

    Wish I could've cut a few more of those trees down. It was pretty thick in there when you guys started. Looking real nice now. Have a wonderful evening

    Tree felling can be very dangerous work for sure! There’s definitely an art and science to it.

    So Greg. How dos doing stuff like that work out in your leases that you have? Will the owner say much about it or what is there reaction? Also what do you use for stump killer there? Thanks an appreciate all your info.

      I okayed it with the landowners before we started. They love the progress we have made. You will be seeing the next video of the silvopasture after 4-5 hours of cutting with 3 chainsaws.

    For silvopasture, if you have a choice in leaving a line of trees in an E-W orientation vs a N-S orientation, what are the considerations for each? Thanks.

    Is Cedar the only stumps you wouldn't paint? And on small acreages would not painting stumps provide usable sheep graze... Although they do come screaming back? Thank you

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher
      @gregjudyregenerativerancher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cedars are the only tree we do not treat, they don't sprout back as long as you cut them off at ground level. Do not leave one needle on the stump!

    I understand the point of painting the stumps is to keep them from coppicing, however wouldn't the shoots that grow provide forage for sheep?

    Good to see safety gear being used ! Such a considerate thing not making the birds and squirrels move out during the winter. around here we call it Reno evictions.it happens a lot lately to tenants in apartment buildings that have been sold to new owners people and companies who are moving into the province paying a ton for buildings over the assessed values. So even if evictions aren’t happening doubling the rental fees.to recover money spent has the same affect... it is hard on those who have fixed incomes as there aren’t enough housing units for those without deep pockets hard to make a choice between eating medication and a safe place to sleep when what you do have doesn’t cover the new rent let alone any other expenses.I look forward to seeing the land when you post the next part. Would it make any sense to add some bird houses to the trees? It has warmed up today we are actually up to the freezing point such nice balmy weather for a change!☃️💞☃️🤷🏼‍♀️😘💞✨🌟🖖🖖🖖🌟✨👍👍👍🍀🤞🍀🙋🏼‍♀️

    I'm embarrassed to ask you the herbicide you use. I asked you a year ago, you told me, you mix it with a little diesel and paint the stump. I have created 1,837 individual notes the last year. The search function struggles to find older notes by keyword.

      1 quart of Crossbow herbicide to 5 gallons of red diesel.
