    For you people complaining about the oil on the maf sensor that was a thing of the past from Long ago, lol. The drop in filter made a difference on the throttle response, noise, and mpg and is a lot better than any after airbox. The oem box oulls air from the inside of the fender-wells not the engine area and the AEM cold air intakes are a total sham until shown otherwise. Actually in most cases you will actually lose hp and tq with these aftermarket systems.

    I run AEM cold air intakes, no oil on the filters, been very happy with the results, sound and power. Running the TRD filter on my 21 Tundra, that's what it came with, waiting to switch with what I know works better. Great vid!

    over the years I have had nothing but issues with oiled filters. Tiny drops eventually hit your MAF and it can throw codes. Had this happen on numerous vehicles from LS’s to diesels so now I just run dry filters.
    Currently have a Solar Octane TRD Pro.

    Big fan of high flow filters or cold air intakes. The engine is nothing but a pump. The less restrictive you can make the inlet and/or the outlet, the more efficient it becomes.

    used this before on the pre gen tundra. Sounds nice but a oil analysis reveals a lot of silicon in the oil. I would keep the stock paper filter in the truck incase you have ever in a super dusty condition.

      How much is “a lot”? And how much is too much? Have driven multiple Toyota V8’s for hundreds of thousands of miles on TRD filters and have had ZERO issue or oil consumption. If I was to go on a desert or very dusty trip, very much agree that a paper filter would be more efficient and perhaps necessary. However, I believe that for most folks, it’s not gonna make a detrimental difference. Change your oil and use high quality oil and oil filters.

    The factory air filter has more "fins" which provides more surface area. The TRD air filter has fewer fins, so it has less surface area. More surface area provides more airflow. If the TRD air filter does provide more airflow, it must be because the material is more porous which would allow more dirt to pass through. Another characteristic of the oiled filters (like K&N) is they clog much, much faster than a factory filter.

    • @laxwyo1
      @laxwyo1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      clogging faster implies they are filtering better, no?

    • @gregd4391
      @gregd4391 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@laxwyo1 not necessarily. They probably just hold onto more dirt. Surfaces with oil hold onto dirt and dust more than a clean surface. Oiled filters also cause problems with mass airflow sensors because the oil gets carried by the airflow and deposits onto the mass airflow sensor.
      People can theorize all they want. The tests have been done the data has been gathered.

      @@laxwyo1 no, It’s like making mud out of dirt. Add the lubricant or chemical they add and dust kind of merrys with it. I have ran a couple different of these and lived on a long gravel road.

    With the Mpg wars between truck manufacturers going on and EPA figures to meet, if oiled cotton filters helped Mpg's, the manufacturers would be using them. As far a growl goes, you're not going to get growel from a V6....gotta have a V8 for that.

The problem with that is that they require increased maintenance and reliability and longevity suffer for it. Just give me a naturally aspirated V8.
