Honestly PhiDX, your breakdowns are cracked as well, you take your knowledge of being a pro high level player and analyze every interaction between matches and people and are able to ascertain the most probable thought processes behind these other pro players🔥
As a drag player and a (somewhat) new tekken player, I love to see the simplicity. Most drags that I play against try to maintain offense nearly the whole match and they get punished terribly for it. I aim to do the opposite of those players and that's why I love to see his defensive, counter-attacking play style and how well he pairs it w/ his ability to analyze his opponents, it's what I've been trying to do with the character. I hope to have this amount of game sense some day and maybe unlock more of Drag's potential, this guy is insane. Thanks for the breakdown Phi because I def would've missed a lot of stuff, keep doing your thing man.
What I love about fg’s is the slower you take them, the faster you become. Everything becomes second nature I feel like Ulsan is a good example of taking things slow and adamancy in the game plan.
Love your videos Phi! Your transparency about being content creator/high level competitor and passion for Tekken is coming through loud and proud! This match analysis was excellent! Made me really wish I had a piece of hardware and the internet connection to play SF6 and T8. I have gotten really into FGC content this past year, right now sadly my only experience with fighting games is living vicariously through youtube vids. Keep doing you and making great videos! ❤
That's actually really good information from PhiDX. Watching not just your character but also watching the opposite player during neutral is BIGGER than some might realize.
Sometimes that how you get them on the first second. If they have a habit of sidestepping or attacking immediately, you can punish them and have a great start.
Not looking at the screen is honestly something I've caught myself doing. Usually it's when i get smacked dead with no idea what just happened. Idk if my eyes needed a break mid match or if my focus was dropping but I'm still learning where i need to be looking and when
I'm guilty of this especially when I get launched on what appears to be a game ending combo. So many times they drop the combo and I have a chance to come back, but it's like I've mentally clocked out and I make silly decisions on wake up.
I'm someone who started with Tekken 8 and already put 500 hours into it, I went to my locals and it turns out everyone there is God Supreme while I'm Bushin. I never realized the absolute depth of skill gaps there were after that rank and the recent tournaments have been extremely frustrating because I could work on this or that response, but then a newcomer with a character I never faced with actual local experience comes in and wrecks. But everyone said that's just experience with the matchup and I need to work on my fundamentals as well as proper move responses. But it's all really vague. This video? Right there. Nothing else. Pure fundamental gameplay without showing off at all. I definitely plan to study everything from this constantly as I pick up a new character after Raven that doesn't hold old bad habits. I know Victor had bad rep at the beginning, but he's just damn cool with the teleporting and weapons! The nerfs should definitely help relieve the bad pressure. Man. It always scared me. 500 hours and not clicking with my main anymore. But then it's all about appreciating the journey of learning. But man it's real easy to lose sight of that sometimes.
Them: Dragunov is OP and carries everyone Ulsan: Plays the cleanest, most irrefutable fundamentals anyone's ever seen against one of the world's best Jins
Both are s tier and easy now. What you saw can be done with any character. The difference is how hard you need to work for it. T7 times are over where s tiers were very hard. Now its t8 where s tiers are easy
Dragunov is OP due to him having SO many tools to deal with alot of opponents. Doesn't mean he carries, but it is very frustrating sometimes to face a Drag because you can see he has ALL the tools you wish you had and more.
Love this analysis and how you break down the options and decision making happening! Then showing it in full speed I was like oh shit this guy is getting dismantled
The amount of situations where a safe df1 brought me a win vs something fancy is remarkable and something after I started never stopped doing because it’s so safe
Had my Kazuya at Bushin and this the difference you notice with tekken king and above, they play so frame tight and will take their turn back after your -7-9 immediately like it's almost just flow but it's clearly being aware of the info on screen and keeping up that pace and precision is crazy hard
I absolutely love watching high level Tekken! It just seems so masterful and I think it's like watching a fight scene from a movie. PhiDX made it even more enjoyable with this comprehensible breakdown!
Getting Americans to love basic Tekken. I see you Phi. Can't say it enough you will be, and are a huge reason a chunk of beginners are getting into Tekken the actual Tekken, and that's beautiful thanks for these videos. KEEP IT UP!!!
I'm quite surprised Raef didn't use Jin's F4 even once in both sets. As far as I know it's a really good tool to use as it can give you a full combo if you get a counter hit. I'm no pro or anything and Tekken 8 is basically my first Tekken since Tekken 3 so obviously I'm no expert, but I did main Jin for a good while and found F4 to be really useful..
f4 is one of jin's best moves, but it's on the slower side of attacks, so I imagine Raef was probably struggling to find where to use it once he saw all the fast moves Ulsan was using
f4 is quite fast at 16f but is linear, death on whiff, -8 on block, -1 with ZEN transition (ZEN options are not scary in the neutral imo) and i think ZEN cancel is unsafe in this game. CH launch is great but you would take as much damage if you get ever caught whiffing it (from spacing or step). I may be wrong but I think ff2 and bf2,3 are better to use in general, they have better tracking, are faster and ff2 is a heat engager and heat dash launcher
@@Enjuryzen cancel is safe if you block in the very next frame after inputting f, t7 zen cancel left you stand blocking, t8 zen cancel has a built in forward microdash very hard to do, serves no real purpose, and jin is just fine without it
Testament to Ulsan and pilot over Dragunov as a character. He really doesn't carry hard anymore. You see how many times his hitboxes get stepped and he overcomes that anyway

5:50 I think Ulsan sniped his habit here. Raef loves d4 after heatburst to high crush jabs and beat ss or backdash
Good call. D4 is still a risky callout because the heat left him in minus. It still loses to someone doing df1 after their heat plus frames
Not looking at the screen is honestly something I've caught myself doing. Usually it's when i get smacked dead with no idea what just happened. Idk if my eyes needed a break mid match or if my focus was dropping but I'm still learning where i need to be looking and when
