Oooh I absolutely LOVE this EP. Jar of Flies gets well deserved praise, but this one set the groundwork, every song is perfect but that's no surprise, it's Alice In Chains.
I never liked the real Brother song because the melody on “you were always so far away/ I know that pain” was really bad and that stupid vocal effect was horrible but Brother on unplugged is so different and authentic. It really shows the true beauty of the song
You have to start doing Soundgarden too, Badmotorfinger is a good start. The singer from Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, sings on Right Turn. Chris is definitely my favourite vocalist from this music scene, super powerful voice. Edit: he’s actually my favourite of all time, not just this scene
Ann Wilson from the band Heart is the female vocalist and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Mark Arm from Mudhoney where the guests vocalists on Right Turn. Also Love Song is just the band fucking around where each member switched instruments. Layne was on drums, Jerry was on bass, Mike Starr was guitar and Sean the drummers was vocals. Sean was actually the one to come up with the idea for SAP after he dreamt about making a EP called SAP the band didn't want to "mess with fate" so they made it. Short but sweet album. Always a pleasure can't wait until you hear the rest of AIC discography.
That "other singer" on Right Turn is Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Audioslave (which is 3/4 Rage Against the Machine) and some solo stuff too. Another rabbit hole for your list Molly. Lol!
Nice reaction. This EP is great. Right Turn features (the greatest singer of all time) Chris Cornell. It's a perfect time to start your Soundgarden journey. After Soundgarden, Chris went on to do Audioslave and a solo career. All great stuff. I think that the self-titled Audioslave album is one of the best ever made. Absolute masterpiece.
Wow, I missed this video too. You even reacted to Sap, you're an AIC veteran at this point. I wonder if you've gone back to re-listen to 'Right Turn' now that you're familiar with Chris. Also love the way you say "a-Q-stic" lol. Sap was a really cool project, they actual used the money they got from Cameron Crowe to record 'Would' for the movie Singles to cut the EP, then released it in stores with no press. They wanted it be a bit of an easter egg for their fanbase before easter eggs in popular culture were really a thing. I think Cantrell said it was when Kevin Smith featured 'Got Me Wrong' in Clerks that it took off. Jerry has also said that Sap set the expectations for the fans that they could do the hard stuff and the softer stuff, so from early on, regardless of their success, they didn't feel limited or boxed into a sound. Awesome reaction, 🤘

Badmotorfinger does a better job of highlighting Cornell's vocal ability. Superunknown is a better produced and was a more popular album.
I see you listening to AIC, I stop what I'm doing and watch🙂 Can't wait to see your thoughts on their other EP and maybe their Unplugged performance as well as Layne's last two songs with them which were released with their Music Box compilation I believe. Love Song was just their wacky sides being showcased, a complete antithesis to what their music was. Got Me Wrong may be my favorite song of theirs. The fact that this reaction video has far fewer views and likes than most of the other videos on this channel is just a reminder of how underrated this album is. This was the first CD I ever owned. It's still probably my favorite AiC, though Jar of Flies is not far behind.

It’s a little bit on the longer side as far as an EP goes, and it’s just got the overall feel and atmosphere of a full length album.

Even before I listen all I'm going to say right off is, this is an amazing EP and glad that you are doing this review. I loved this EP when I heard it. I kept listening to it over and over especially "Right Turn" it was a deep cut into AIC's acoustic side and talent to write other types of songs. It was amazing to everyone who heard it, I'm sure some were disappointed at first but understood it after a while. Thank you for doing the review of this EP, it's a well known but not often talked abut AIC album. Love Song to me was them being goofy and not giving a damned and just playing what made them laugh and enjoy themselves.

Chronologically these are you need to listen now: Jar of flies 1994 - Last EP Alice in Chains 1995 - (Also known as Tripod, last studio album with Layne Staley). MTV Unplugged 1996 - One of the last performances with Layne. Now you can go a little more from here because there are some interesting side projects specially 2: Mad Season Above 1995 - Only studio album (Super Band with Layne Staley in vocals, Mike McCready from Pearl Jam on guitar, Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees on drums and John Baker from The Walkabouts on bass, you're gonna love this album trust me. Mark Lanegan appears in one track as a guest. The last but not least album to close this era should be Jerry Cantrell Boggy Depot 1998 - This one is the 1st Jerry Cantrell solo album, however all members from AIC participate here except Layne Staley so it is often called as the lost AIC album. You probably get recommendations all the time but here's an underrated one for ya from the same era, Sink by the band Floater. That album has so much heart to it it's so good and right up your alley👌

Jar of Flies was such a commercial success that I often compare it to NIN's Downward Spiral. Neither album was meant to do well and they spiraled (no pun intended) out of control.
The EPs are for sure to explore their more acoustic side. Always love their slammin' jams, but this stuff is choice no doubt. Speaking of, idk if you plan on doing the unplugged albums, but both AICs and Nirvan's are must listens, FO SHO! Also, may or may not be popular, but I'm going to again recommend Marilyn Manson's discography. I'd be super intrigued to hear your impressions.
I always wish the coda to "Right Turn" could go on for another 30 to 300 minutes. Ann Wilson's vocals are MVP level on "Brother" and "Am I Inside". Their box set, Music Box, removes her vocals and they're sorely missed. I didn't realize I needed a cross-pollination of AIC and Heart, but I'm so happy that happened. The reaction at 8:19 is priceless. If it weren't for "Love Song" at the end, Sap would be a perfect EP, in my book. As it is, though, it's nearly perfect; I simply stop after "Am I Inside".

Alice in Chains is my all time favorite band. EVERY song on EVERY album is a masterpiece, not a bad song in all their discography. I will point out however that the new stuff just isn't the same without Layne Staley.
That earthy, beautiful soulful voice is that of the great Chris Cornell, RIP. You definitely need to get to Soubdgarden, Molly. You most likely heard 'Black Hole Sun' thats another classic grunge anthem.
Easily my favorite AIC album. Easily. Even as just an EP. In my book, for the 'big radio song', Got me wrong beats Rooster/would/MitB, and the rest excluding the joke song are a great mix of the jar of flies sound mixed with other albums.

Their third album, the self-titled one with the three legged dog on the front cover is their best album, and definitely worth a listen!

Please, please do Alice In Chains unplugged. Its arguably the best-the atmosphere is unbelievable. Watching it demystifies a bit of their sound.
