I liked it, but not a 5 star for me. Certain things felt a little trope-y to me, and I felt that the writing was not perfect (not bad, just not perfect). More like a 4-star but I’m a little critical! Can we talk about her parents? I have a theory that since her parents’ bodies were supposedly never found, that maybe they had actually abandoned her and given the rights over to her grandfather. The counselors at school said they died to spare her feelings. They were clearly neglectful parents to begin with.
I never mind when people have a different opinion when it's expressed kindly, as you did. For me, I think it was the timing of when I read it. And I agree about her parents! I thought abandonment was a possibility too!
