    Nathan, I feel SEEN when you post about ISFJs. I struggled for a long time with accepting that this as my type (as opposed to INFJ, my next closest) because the summaries always sounded like, "dumb but nice mom who just wants to give you casserole and doesn't realize when she's being mistreated."
    I'm an artist, writer, and career woman; I don't cook; and I maintain strong interpersonal boundaries, so the descriptions always fell flat for me. Instead, you keyed in on what motivates me: I don't see the point in undoing a method that's working, I absolutely adore getting various parts of my life into "autopilot" to free up my mind and energy for creative projects, and I want a balance in life where the facts lead and my feelings follow, but I never want the feelings aspect to be cast aside.
    We ISFJs aren't saintly, naive bozos who don't understand logic. We just want to make smart decisions that are as gentle on others as possible. It means so much when someone recognizes where we're coming from.

      I agree, I strive toward objective logic in decision making in order to consider the situation as it is, and not as it is from my perspective. Decisions have an effect on everyone in the environment that calls for said decision, and thus selfishness has no place in it, and must be cast aside. The only way to truly be good, is to put others first and self last. Simply not harming is not a standard to determine kindness but rather a facet of selflessness, which is the premise of developing a genuinely loving character.

      Most of the people who draw attention to their "type" lets say it's a rare type, like infj, are not actually an infj. That's what I found in my experience. Those people just learn about mbti and find the rarest "type", then go around saying they are that type and it makes them feel special. These people don't learn about mbti to help themselves and others. I know this is long but don't get down on yourself.. Isfj is the hero we all need in this world and you make life better for all. 💙

      Oh, no, I love them. My Mom. She is the smartest person I’ve ever known in 50 years on the planet. You guys are lovely. Sharp, witty, astute, above the ego in most cases. Mature. Sometimes you don’t necessarily see when you should be fighting a bit harder for what you want. You aren’t viewed as dumb, by any stretch, quite the opposite, and more deep than anything else. With much love and support -INFJ (who can’t believe she just turned 50 as she’s mixing beats on logic, moving from country to country making art, cuz she’s an artist, after quitting her gig as a professor in academia in disgust because of the way they financially oppress faculty and students, by forcing, nationwide, approx 80% of faculty to take part time status while raising tuition on students, concurrently forcing deceptively unethical personal agendas onto students who are their to learn and think critically).

    Very accurate :) Also, two things I've noticed about me and a lot of others ISFJs:
    1. we value memories about people in our life very highly: for every one in my life I constantly keep a "mental box" in my mind full of things I know they like, they hate, they value highly etc. and I often use them during our new interactions so they can feel understood and happy;
    2. we like to be prepared for every bad scenario that can happen: every time I go to a new place, a party, travel etc. I do research and prepare all the things I might potentially need, I'm checking where the nearest shops and hospitals are just in case, I think about plan B and plan C to even minor, daily decisions... and not just for me but also whenever my family member or friend is going to travel, starting a new job, or anything new honestly. Sometimes I wonder how they still want to be my friends I can be such an annoying, overprotective freak.

      Makes sense. Was there perhaps a situation earlier in your life where this "overprotective" disaster prevention proved usefull or would have proven usefull? Are any of your parents high Si users? Or is has there perhaps been some other person that you've encountered who has been well-prepared that you look up to? I think for the isfj especially, being in a rush to do something and being stressed in the process is a very unpleasant experience, with the blind-spot Te becoming very prevalent. Being incapable of leaning on neither Si nor Te in pressured situations truly must be terrifying. Oh and hello, nosy intp here, just investigating the primary Si user that's actually interesting.

    I wholeheartedly believe that the absolute best type to have for a mother is ISFJ, like mine lol we had the most stable and organized childhood home environment anyone can imagine, we never had to worry about our physical well-being for even one second. But contrary to what many believe about ISFJs, I thought my mother was the smartest, most logical, and grounded woman I knew, and she actually raised us to always be responsible for our own actions and face the consequences we deserved when it came to schoolwork, punctuality, or anything else. I’m positive that had a huge impact on my current functionality as an ISFP adult with a family of my own. The example she set by just being her perfect self was all I really needed to set me on the right path. Another thing that busts the common stereotype is that even though she has everything under control at all times and DOES fit the stereotype of constantly cooking and baking and having that ability of somehow giving just the right gifts, she’s actually always been great at setting clear boundaries in every situation, as well as having the maturity and strength to say no to a request when she knows she’s reached her limit. And the truth is, that makes everyone respect her even more! (And also alleviates our guilt for accepting her superhuman service so often!)

    I had a ISFJ friend when I was going to school, at a time in which I really needed one. He was one of the most genuinely good people I have ever met. We ended up going separate ways after high school just due to the fact that we had absolutely nothing in common any more, and as an INTJ, I often found him to be infuriating to talk to, but he still makes sure to send me messages on holidays and on my birthday. I don't think the word "wholesome" could be used to more accurately describe anyone else on the planet.

    I like that you added that if we are given enough time we are able to do things that don't necessarily come naturally to us. Many are surprised that I openly state when I need support with something, and yes, affording time, is a support. However, I never simply state that I need help in general, I specifically say what I need help with, and more often than not, I need time to practice a newly acquired skill. Unfortunately, society operates on a all-the-things-now basis where people are required to have 5 years of experience for entry level positions and would rather have someone pretend to know how to do something rather than taking the time to show someone how to do something properly. It's quite the vicious cycle, honestly.

My ENFP husband and I have come to an understanding that if he thinks of something that will change my preconceived image of what I expect, he needs to give me time to process the new information. I may eventually come around, especially if he presents facts and information in support of the change, but it takes me a while to recalibrate. It’s like my brain has to upload and reconfigure my image of the future and what to expect, and then I’m good to go from there. I really don’t do well changing plans in the fly. Strange considering that they are one of, if not the most common mbti-types in the world. As an intp who struggles with pretty common-day things like eating, sleeping, socializing and physical activity, I find that the isfj has a calming and comforting aura about them, being stable and reliable yet typically humble and aware of their own failures and weaknesses. They feel quite grounded and confident in who they are in their best form and socially withdrawn and lost in their imagination in their worst form. My little sister is an isfj and already at the age of 11 I can see that she has this soothing vibe a lot of the time, yet she likes to ask me questions about things regarding how things work and are how they are structured, using that Ti connection that she has and we both share. Her blind-spot Te really shows however whenever she's stressed or anxious regarding something. It's like she totally breaks down and loses all structure. Must be quite unpleasant, being a top-function Si user.

      Unsolicited advice time! ISFJ's function stack is Si Fe Ti Ne and ENTP's is Ne Ti Fe Si. As you can see, same functions but stacked opposite. That could be a clue. But then INTP uses all of the same functions but in a slightly different order (Ti Ne Si Fe). Of the types you listed all use introverted thinking and extraverted feeling except one, the INFP, so I would say that one's less likely. Of the types you listed only one is an extraverted type (ENTP), so I would say it's less likely. That leaves you with INTP and ISTJ, so it's a matter of working out what are your strengths and weaknesses. Do you tend to make decisions based on the values of society and to maintain social harmony, or do you make decisions based on your own inner logic and have trouble considering the feelings of others? Of course, I could be completely off, I'm just using some deduction to make an educated guess. The best way to determine your type is to keep learning about the types and their functions. Enjoy the process!
