I have so enjoyed watching this blog. We are in the process of styling the garden. Mark you need to take the old lawn up, level the ground underneath and take it clear of seeds and then pay new turf on top. Good you have cleared some overhanging trees and shrubs as the grass will not grow you will just have moss. Happy gardening Mark. Xx
Mark, a great start to clearing the yard. You need to wear long sleeves though. Nadia, you have to clear out the crap so you can start planting more. It’ll be at least a 2-3 year process to see the fruits of your labor. You need to get a skip ASAP to start getting rid of the crap so it will look better and you can see what needs to be done next. There’s no use thinking about a lawn yet until you have totally cleared the yard. Yes you can fix the lawn with seeds. Make sure you airate the ground and fertilise.
Mark you're doing great! I love the smell of oil and petrol but probably because I grew up with my dad building cars, speedboats, canoes, etc in his spare time. That bed will look lovely once planted up with new roses etc and Nadia will love it. Brambles are a pain to get rid of and really spoil beautiful plants. Nadia its good for him and you need to be more positive :) x

It's a complete reversal of roles, like the meditation conversation in reverse. I sort of understand - it's a big leap of faith you have to take Nadia, and must be scary to see what you love in the garden being changed, but I wish you could go with Mark's vision and excitement, it was lovely seeing Mark talking about what he plans to do.

Yes you can sow seed on a patchy lawn, you need to remove the weeds, and prepare it, then sow the seeds on a calm day, (not windy), and make sure it doesnt dry out ❤❤ xx

Happy Mothers Day! I would have been unnerved by the suitcase by the end of Thursday and by Friday I would have reach pure frustration. Also Mark you are more prepared for chain sawing than any man I have ever seen. But your safety is commendable and the boots will break in. Also it’s nice to see you having fun and enjoying working in the garden. Reminds me of my Dad he’s always tinkering with the garden. I do have to say though you should hire a couple guys just to clear all the debris, bushes and remove the stumps and lay things out to make it easier for you to take over so you can get the job done quicker. I can’t wait to see your brows Nadia, I want mine done as well. The new techniques are so natural looking nowadays compared to the brows Mark is thinking of lol.

Nadia, please stop being negative and telling Mark that all he does in the garden isn’t good. You will get so much more growing now that you have so much more light coming in. Eventually the brambles will take over all your garden. You need some patience Nadia, gardens don’t grow in 5 minutes. Yes you can put seed down to thicken up the lawn. Use a rake to fur the soil up and then cast the seed and keep it well watered. By the end of the summer you will be proud of what he has achieved.

I know you guys don't have much luck with your regular garbage pick-up, but can you not put small tree limbs/yard debris out for them to take? That's what we do here. You can't put giant tree trunks out, but if you cut it up small, they'll take it. Uh oh, I see another shirt coming up ... "Mistress of the Mitigating Circumstances"!! It's like a hoard of angry beavers attacked your yard!! Hahaha! It always looks worse before it looks better... that's a LOT of hard work right there. Serious applause! Mark your a poet and didn't know it!! I'm having a Mother's Day BBQ but weathers not going to be great. Mark as the alpha male (well the only male of the house) I think you should cook for Nadia with the girls for Mother's Day and give Nadia a bit of a rest from cooking. Bless you re the chocolates Mark but I know I’d nag my Tim if he ate that many. 🙈 Nadia...please have some patience, great job Mark and vision. And 100% you can repair a patchy lawn. You can get specialist grass seed to do so plus you can get grass that will grow in shadier areas or where there is heavy footfall. But for the bees I personally prefer a lawn with daisies and clover in it plus buttercups. Do you remember last year when I mentioned about doing a wild flower meadow that you can get turf with wildflowers in it. That’s another option. Astro turf is great for those who have young kids and don’t like gardening or football mad kids but it’s not that attractive and not great for wildlife. But you can use strips of it for walkways which my partner Tim put down for his mum in her little garden. Can’t wait for green fingered hell to start fully Mark. Just a tip, as a woman who doesn’t like mess in her garden. Get a skip PDQ, dry out wood and burn it or get a machine that changes it in to bark chippings which you can use as a mulch/weed suppressor. Clear as you go as I try to do so everything looks tidier. The deep pink flowered shrub is a Chamelia.

Mark as the alpha male (well the only male of the house) I think you should cook for Nadia with the girls for Mother's Day and give Nadia a bit of a rest from cooking. Bless you re the chocolates Mark but I know I’d nag my Tim if he ate that many. 🙈 Nadia...please have some patience, great job Mark and vision. And 100% you can repair a patchy lawn. You can get specialist grass seed to do so plus you can get grass that will grow in shadier areas or where there is heavy footfall. But for the bees I personally prefer a lawn with daisies and clover in it plus buttercups. Do you remember last year when I mentioned about doing a wild flower meadow that you can get turf with wildflowers in it. That’s another option. Astro turf is great for those who have young kids and don’t like gardening or football mad kids but it’s not that attractive and not great for wildlife. But you can use strips of it for walkways which my partner Tim put down for his mum in her little garden. Can’t wait for green fingered hell to start fully Mark. Just a tip, as a woman who doesn’t like mess in her garden. Get a skip PDQ, dry out wood and burn it or get a machine that changes it in to bark chippings which you can use as a mulch/weed suppressor. Clear as you go as I try to do so everything looks tidier. The deep pink flowered shrub is a Chamelia.

Well done Mark on starting back in the Garden, will do wanders for your mental health,Nadia its going to look bare for a while but once its all cleared away and new plants put in it will look lovely and those bushes that have been strangled by the brambles will thrive now there gone,just think once the garden is sorted youl be able to sit in your egg chair and relax and enjoy it.
