This is the first full video I’ve watched of yours dude. You now have me as a fan after you took Cavy’s lure and then swam across that mental spot. Respect bro
Mate. that is extreme solo fishing - hard to get a true impression of how hard that trek in was. No wonder you and Cavy get on so well, kindred spirits - just different main quarry. Kingies are our GTs. Good work on getting some release footage this time, after a few hiccups on the previous vid. You nailed the whole thing bro.
Hey Joe, I'm almost 70 and I'm missing doing it off the rocks for any kind of fish. Catching big uns is so exciting and to watch your fishing skills is great to see. Your making me salivate and stir with a hunger to get me weary old man bod out there again. I remember while trying to get to a good spot, I had to swim across a couple of small gutts. I got out of the last one ,turned back to see a 12ft at least white pointer go past as I climbed out. When your young your more fearless or stupid, I'm just glad I still got all my limbs. Great fishing and catches Joe. As always, hunting or fishing, your the man. Cheers bro for making me hunger again. Most I did in one day was 7 king's off lures.
I'm real happy your enjoying the videos, that was a big part of why is started filming these trips, to try and make it feel like your out there with me. Thanks for the support and I hope you do manage to get out and fish again 💪🏻
FFS - surely there is some sort of small inflatable you could pack in for the crossings. Maybe install a couple of ring bolts to secure a line for the return - when you are loaded up with fish which increases the risk of shark attention. Not to mention you have to cross both ways.
Thanks man, I am going to include more of the general footage of my day to day activities rather than only fishing action. Seems it sets more of a cool storyline to follow
Awesome Video man!! Awesome New Rod style too!! i wish i lived in Australia or New Zealand Man!! I live waaaay in the Bahamas. Maybe one day i can come and fish along with you on your adventures. Take care man. All the best with your new Dragger Project, it looks fantastic!! Tight Lines!! Big Love from the Bahamas!!
Thanks Terry! Yeah good success with that footage. Unfortunately on the previous trip all those water releases didn't work because the gopro sucked in a heap of water!
Hey buddy. I got to tell you as well as who reads this. I’ve dumped many of five gallon cans of fuel in the tinmberjack and lots of other little holes. Turn the container so the pour spout is on top so the air returns easily. This will give you a little stream for pouring an not spill or slosh all over everything. Go slow and you’ll see. Maybe I should do a video of that.
Joe! I can't wait for your videos to come out... I watchum all!! They are awesome!! Just wanna say Thanks!! Take care of your bride and little one!! Shootz!
I didn't see anyone say it but the FG is the "fine grip" knot as far as I remeber, I do use it on all my leaders its the best for braid to flouro/mono.
Loved you and Cavy on the island. Love the new posts....been chasing the 1 MTR kingie for years. Been 1-2cms short for 4 years. Give me confidence every week!!!
Huge fish bro! and a major fight that it gave.. That fishing spot on that far out rock is awesome. Yeah I need one of those rod and reels One of these days
Wow what a fish! Crazy how he was right there a couple of times and then finally took it. Way to be persistent. Another epic fishing video Bro! Love the promo video of the new rod too. Cheers 🍻
Exciting video Joe. What is the back pack you've got? Its great that you blow it up..By the way theres only one place in NZ that has ruthless mosquitos. I love that AGITLAS 1800 reel.
Really enjoying your content. When you dropped that first kingi in the little gut and the swells were coming in behind you I was genuinely stressed haha.
Joe, that’s the sort of video we have all kind of appreciate from you, top stuff. I have read somewhere that the “FG” in knot stands for “fine grip”. Im sure that’s right. Keep up the fine work, your fellow kiwi in Auss
Beauty campsite man. But the swimming... and the giant fish caught in the little gully. Wow! Very hardcore J.E. I can relate to the mosies. Plenty in Alaska too!
Joe, Love the content man. I watch everything from your fishing videos to your hunting adventures. Making it to NZ for a hunt is on my bucket list. Keep up the great work, I'm liking the new style of videos to.... more of a vlog style where you go shopping and talk to us about what's going on. How is Kathrine and the little one? Miss seeing her on the adventures, hope all is well.
Try a little vics spread lightly on the skin to stop the mossies spoiling your weekends angling. Some nice eating fish there at least one for the pan or bbq at home.
Love the videos Joe! The kingfish you fight are proper lifetime fish for me mate💪. Just an FYI, the FG stands for fine grain. It called that because the mainline is almost woven into the leader creating a very fine grain.🤙 keep kicking ass legend!🫡

@@MattsFishingEscapessounds good to me mate👍. I was taught to call it fine grain because of the type of grain that it creates on the leader, but I can see how the term fine grip is a good description as well🫡🤘.
You should be scared of that spot because if that is a deep drop off just off shore, it will be excellent Great White Shark hunting territory, particularly if the rocks you were fishing on are used by seals and if a seal rookery is nearby (within 1/2 to 1 mile or 1 to 2 KM). Rookeries typically locate where the sand meats the rocks (particularly dark rocks) because the seals will haul out on the soft sand and then climb up on the rocks to sun themselves to get warm. White sharks will lurk over the rock near the seal haul out point during pupping season and will wait for an unsuspecting seal to swim by to ambush. Also, if you are on a point, typically a point indicates an underwater canyon directly off the point that White Sharks use to ambush prey (just look at an underwater topo map of the area and you will see how a point break very often indicates and off shore canyon). The Whites swim deep, up the center of the underwater canyon looking up for seal silhouettes at the surface and then they ambush the seals from below. The dark rock color hides the shark's dark back from the seals looking down into the gloom. Chances are not super high you will be attacked just randomly going in the water there, but if you are in the right location (the one I described), your chances of shark attack go way the hell up in comparison to locations that are not ideal White Shark hunting grounds. I once met a young lady from Australia (at my daughters summer camp in the United States) who was ambush attacked at a point break in Australia. She was a local Ausie and told me she thought it was just test biting her, but when she told me the story, I knew that was not the case because it came in hard and fast on her from below (she was lying on her board in about 20 to 30 feet of water off a point break). I told her she was lucky to be alive as the White Shark thought she was a seal and ambushed her. One tooth got her arm right below the elbow and left a nasty scar which I asked her about and that is when she told me what happened. I told her not to surf that break during that time of year anymore because Whites tend to return to the same locations on their migration paths and they tend to do so at the same time of year. One thing I am trying to teach people about predators is that humans are hardwired to know when they are in an area with conditions that is ideal for predator hunting. Dark gloomy forests or oceans always give people the creeps and there is a reason for that. It is an evolved instinct that humans have to raise their adrenaline and awareness of the environment when they are in one of these ideal predator hunting grounds. Your fear is caused by your natural instinct to know you are in a dangerous place. You need to listen to that fear. I have no idea where you were in this video, but what you say about the place early in the video is enough to cause me some concern and spend time writing this post to teach you and your audience about sharks. Just know that by the numbers, in this century, shark attacks have increased 500% as compared to last century. Your chances of shark attack are growing because some shark populations are growing (due to protections put in place decades ago) and if you do not learn how to manage shark attack risk in modern times, your chances of being attacked will go way up. White Sharks are starting to swim into areas where they previously rarely ever traveled because their numbers have grown so large that the best hunting grounds are saturated, forcing less dominate sharks to seek new hunting grounds. For Whites and Tigers, these new hunting grounds tend to be located around newly formed and/or growing seal rookeries or turtle egg laying beaches. If you feel like an area where you need to swim is sharky, I would wear goggles and look down into the water as you swim. Put the rock at your back to avoid sneak attacks and carry a pointy stick that is at least 3 feet long. I would not worry about any sharks except Great Whites, Tigers, and bulls (and maybe Oceanic White Tips if you are near a deep water drop-off) as these are the only really dangerous species (most sharks eat fish and crustaceans and could care less about humans unless you piss them off). If you see a shark, keep your eyes on it and do not panic. Sharks will not attack if they know you are looking at them. Stay calm and if it swims at you, swim back at it because that will scare it. Prey runs from sharks in a panic while dangerous animals show no fear and might even aggressively approach other predators so use the body language of a dangerous animal to put fear into the shark. If a shark gets too close, use the pointy stick to nudge it away by touching it near its nose, eyes or gills (if you are ever attacked, peal the shark's eyelid back (they are weak and easy to peal back) and shove your finger in behind the eye of the shark and yank its eye out-that will stop the sharks attack immediately). The best thing to do to know how to behave with large predatory sharks in the water with you is watch footage of the pros swimming with Whites and Tigers and contrast that with the fearful panic of Heather Boswell when she was attacked off the coast of CA. She lost her leg because she panicked and attracted the shark to her like a lure. Notice that the scientists are not fearful if the sharks are well fed (such as at a whale carcass) or there is a manageable number of sharks in the area (based on whether you have some skilled spotters in the water with you). Its all about mimicking the body language of a dangerous animal rather than behaving like prey. You should also wear clothes that break up your silhouette to make sure you do not look like a seal. Stripped patterns apparently work really well. One last thing is to swim in calm areas where there are no waves breaking. White Sharks will hide behind the bubbles from breaking waves and swim through the wave bubbles to catch a seal off-guard on the other side of the wave. Who knows what a shark will do if it stumbles on you when you were hidden behind a wave. Stay safe.
Just starting to watch this man but had to stop quick to comment on the FG knot. 100% please can you do us a little demo on how you do it, what you use to wrap your line on too? Wouldnt do any steel leads? It seems most of your releases are from reef rubbing. Steel would help wouldnt it?
Everything about this video is awesome
Impressed with your bait to get the big fish ... one set of human legs trashing in a life-like way across the gutters
Bloody awesome
Good work chief
I held my breath as this man swam across those guts. Scary man. Price to pay to play.
You should fish Waiheke island my brother caught a 140 cm Kingfish
You and Briggsy both have a habbit of picking the paved sidewalk trips to a dedicated family area when you go fishing, no fun, no risk no exitement while going there and there are always perfect landingzones for the fish. This was a good one even for beeing you:)
wtf are you talking about ?!? Him and briggsy hike to some of the hardest places to land base fish in the world. You’re obviously joking about your comment right ?
Obviously🤣@@Daiwa_Is_King
Just a question, doesn’t the FG knot bump get stuck reducing casting distance?
You are diving into the sea, how do you manage without getting a bath?
