I am really enjoying my new RSV Sovereign Collection Bible. One thing that I especially like is how the translation uses "thou," "thee," "thine," etc., when people are addressing the Deity directly. I think it adds a sense of reverence toward our Divine Creator.

I haven’t used the RSV much but I really like this way of addressing God, while keeping much of the other phrasing more contemporary.

I'm so glad to see the RSV is making a comeback 😁

I SO wish this came with the Apocrypha! There are so few options of beautiful translations for Catholics

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nelson makes one with the Apocrypha. They did with the KJV and I think it would be well received with the RSV

I still use the RSV a lot. I think most RSV users these days are Roman Catholic, and there are RSV-CE and RSV-2CE editions around, but not much for those that prefer a RSV with a Protestant canon.

Yes. This is a nice ‘bridge’ edition for those reasons.

Eastern Orthodox use it some too.

Looks good. I’ve been using the RSV for 50 years and my last copy started losing pages. Does anyone produce a wide margin edition so that I can transfer my notes?

Well, Nelson has released a wide margin in all the versions in their Sovereign Collection. So hopefully there is a wide margin RSV in the works.

I’m disappointed that this is not edge lined like the previous genuine leather editions. I didn’t realize this when I ordered mine.

I was surprised it wasn’t. I’m not sure why they didn’t do it for this edition.

Why would Nelson reprint the RSV? Personally, I wouldn't mind an ASV 1901. Since they had the copyright at one time. On second thought, maybe an RSV is a good idea. 😅. I love all bible translations.

It’s just nice to see some of these historic translations being honored, especially with all the drive to ‘update’ existing translations.

Interesting thought about the ASV, I have only seen digital versions.

Glory to Jesus Christ! I too am excited to have the RSV in a more affordable modern format. I did notice that it is typeset in the NRSV Comfort Print. I am not a huge fan of that font. I really wish they would have went with one with a more classic look. But I guess I understand their logic. Still a bit of disappointment for me personally.

I don’t have an NRSV so couldn’t tell which one of the comfort prints it resembled the most. But good to know!

It’s not a dealbreaker by any means. It says it in the back of the Bible under the heading A Note Regarding The Type. I took a screenshot of it so I could see it better.

I have copies printed by Collins, which I picked up at a thrift shop. One has the 1952 text, and the other has the 1971 text. They have the colour pictures but no drop caps. I'm not sure when they were printed.
My copy of the reviewed edition arrived today. I am considering making it one of my "go to" Bibles.
