    In this DCS: Mil-24P video, we’ll explore use of the 9M114 Shturm anti-tank guided missile, or ATGM. During the early access period, we will also add the high-explosive warhead version of the Shturm and the more powerful 9M120 Ataka ATGM.
    Delivery of ATGMs in the Hind can either be done through the operator station using the Raduga, daylight, optical sight, or from the pilot seat using Patrovich AI.
    The Shturm and Ataka are effective weapon systems against armored vehicles like main battle tanks, but much depends on the angle of attack, and it may take more than one shot to score a kill. Maximum engagement is range is between 4.5 to 5.5 klicks, based on launch conditions.

    • @hivewasp
      @hivewasp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      bit late on my answer but also consider that the KA-50 has a pretty decent camera system and you can target stuff from miles away, and you have ABRIS for situational awareness and a data link with other KA50's - so all in all, visibility through eyeball mk1 may not be that great in comparison to the electronic arsenal of the 50 :D

    Update: you can setup axis and curves for the aiming station separately in the Mi24P Aiming Station axis assignments. That was a bit obscure, because that section looks empty when you open it. It also automatically assigns all available axis to aiming controls, and those must be deleted for the aim control to function properly.
    ... I have to say, the targeting interface is a bit too clunky. What I'd like to see is the ability to set separate curves for the targeting controls. The regular joystick input is too jerky, and mouse/keyboard control breaks immersion.

    I feel like this was just as much a video on the Petrovitch AI as the ATGM. I do like the implementation, though it does almost feel like you manage the AI like another aircraft system. I would imagine the AH-64D will use a similar implementation, though looking at the Apache's cyclic and collective grips, I don't know how we'd be able to dedicate yet another hat switch to the AI.

      It's mentioned in the quick start guide they dropped today (or, yesterday, depending on your time zone) that Petrovich commands can be bound to controls already used for other things in the cockpit, and once you press the button to open the Petrovich command UI, it will use those controls for Petrovich rather than whatever they were bound for otherwise (i.e. binding a trim hat to trim, but when you press another button, the trim hat functions as the Petrovich directional commands), so it shouldn't be that bad honestly.

      @@poiu477 Looks like VA should work pretty well here. The only one that might be a bit tricky is commanding a heading for the pilot when you're in the front seat, since you need to hold the left-right command to move the heading bug. I guess well have to make do with a few preset commands with the buttons held for different durations ("Turn 10 degrees right", "turn 30 degrees left", etc).

I noticed sometimes when attempting to target with Petrovich, he won't look further left than the center of the sight, and vertical aiming must be done by the pilot (If the aircraft pitches up, the aiming reticle goes down, and vice versa. I find myself having to perfectly align the aircraft pitch and slight tremors will throw the ATGM wayyy off course). I'm not sure if I switched something by accident, or if that's a bug.

    I note the Petrovich AI has a delay built in for finding targets - well done.
    Q1. Is the Petrovich AI susceptible to normal battlefield obscuration from smoke, trees terrain etc? If so, does this apply to both before and after missile launch?
    Q2. What is the search area that Petrovich will look around from the point you designate? How wide/ far from there will he search? is their a pattern to it?
    Q3. What happens if the Petrovich can't find a target in the search area? Does he tell you in some way?

    • @darkest_eclipse8271
      @darkest_eclipse8271 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer the first one, in early access I imagine that the ai won’t be super advanced. So they won’t necessarily be obscured by smoke, but terrain for sure. Note that pretty sure the optical device used to guide the ATGMs is laser guidance so any kind of terrain will obscure the laser for the missile.

    • @darkest_eclipse8271
      @darkest_eclipse8271 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Andre As stated by Matt, if you put petrovich into an Auto mode for the ATGM, he will fire on the selected target once he is in range. This mode is indicated by the reticle being in Green.

    Quick request: can you make it so that we can bind encoder wheels to speed, altitude and course select for petrovich, as well as having some of his function individually bindable. I've got a radio/button panel that I want to design in mind for other civ sims and it'd be great to be able to repurpose it for this.

    Stepping away from F1-F12 command lists and making the UI way more intuitive with the directional commands is so nice to see, and the target acquisition was impressive. Gives me hope AI is approaching the point where we can have seamless multicrew. Thats the kind of tech people will pay $60+ for.
    In a few years might even get voice commands working, that'd be sick.
