    I had no interest in gardening but my wife kept a few annuals in pots on the windowsill. One day a few years ago my wife wanted me to dig a flower bed in the front lawn so I went a dug a flower bed. My wife then wanted me to help plant the flowers and so I did and then she wanted me to care for the flowers. I did not a clue what I was doing but I learned slowly but surely. I now have four flower garden beds, fifty pots in the front garden and a no dig vegetable garden out the back. The moral of the story is always listen to your wife.

    Be careful Karen .That tracheospermum is only half hardy and it grows huge .The wall would be the best place for it .Its evergreen 🙂 The geranium Rozanne is a brilliant plant but it will fill your barrel each season .Great choices though . I place my plastic pots inside the terracotta and if there's a slight gap I pack it with bark and then use it as a mulch .Pot stays watered for ages 😊

    Put some 3 casters (wheels) on the bottom of your barrel planters so you can move them easier.

      We made little cedar wood trivets which help with drainage for all my large pots & you can add the casters to the bottom of your wood trivet. We used cedar fence posts & ripped them down to assemble our trivet so our cost is minimal. Just another quick tip.

    Follow Catherine’s tutorial for faux bricks. I did it on a concrete patio and love the results.
    Easy and inexpensive.
    Would look great on your wall just like it did on hers!

    Just a tip if you wanna plant the barrels with temporary plants you can half fill with polystyrene to recycle it from plant packs you've bought or deliveries you may have had then you only need to use half the compost as they're so big, also they won't be so heavy... Just a thought. It all looks so beautiful 😊

    Hi Karen, next to the mirror is the perfect spot for your clematis, roots like to be in shade so don't forget to protect them.
    Did you know that you can seal the inside of the terracotta pots so the water doesn't evaporate so quickly. And you are quite right dunking your pots every now and then and letting the water drain out ensures a good water, especially before or after going away. I love the honeysuckle is it lemon and white or burgundy and cream? Looking forward to your next video. 😊♥

    I also saw youtubers Huw Richards and GrowVeg recommend mulching with grass cuttings and it's been a life saver! When my family cut their lawn I take a bag and use it on my pots- (I am a container gardener too due to renting so don't have my own lawn!) it really seems to work, apparently grass is high in nitrogen. It's a good way to have a 'closed loop system' (where you don't need to keep buying things in and the garden is self sustaining!)

      @Lovelygirliebits  ปีที่แล้ว

    Took a trip to Kilkenny on Monday to collect a few half barrels. Like you, I am pondering what to put in them. Maybe lupins? Not sure. Did the lads there mention to keep them on a layer of gravel for longevity - if they are sitting in the mucky ground, they will rot. Very interesting about water proofing the terracotta pots too

      Have you ever heard of water pearls/beads? They absorb water & swell to two to three times size.... they are great to add a tsp or so to your soil if you are in an especially dry area which requires extra watering in summer or arid regions.

    I am especially excited about my veg as its a first for me and they seem to be growing at a great rate.

    I am sure I will find a way though lol.

    You're right. It depends on your area you live. People think Hawaii is all around tropical weather. Wrong! There are parts of the island that are tropical but there are parts that are like a desert. I've seen limp cactuses. And with the climate changing, we still have rain . . . in June? Not complaining. I just chopped down my rose vine. It was taller than my garage. If you don't spray your roses, you can dry the petals and make tea. You have a beautiful garden.

    Karen, I hope you enjoyed your trip to Spain because by the time you read this we will be back! But I can’t so tickled at you when you get so excited about what’s blooming and what’s not blooming and the fact that some of it it was Leica. Let’s toss it in and see what happens Wala it’s a miracle look how beautiful it is lol love it you’re very different than Catherine I like the ease of your terra-cotta and plastic potted flower garden. I’m not as young as either one of you. Two girls are but I do like the potter and the flowers and I love of your gardens, but yours would probably be easier for me to maintain then Catherine’s I just need to go sit in Catherine’s garden. She’s got two chairs I’ll share lol. I can’t wait to see what your arbors are going to look like. I have a visual picture, but I can’t wait to see them in full bloom. Have a good week.

    I love the little wispy flowers blowing in the wind? You and Catherine have the prettiest flowers and great varieties. The geraniums are so different from any I’ve had. Yours are absolutely beautiful but different. I want some like these. What is the variety. I bought impatiens yesterday. The are so delicate and just lovely but they too are different from any I’ve had before. I’ve been so limited in flowers here until I found a local nursery I didn’t know existed. I went a little wild this weekend 😂.
