This was Eddie Murphy's FIRST movie...fresh off his run on Saturday Night Live, which he's credited for saving. Also, the sequel "Another 48 Hrs." (1990) is a good film as well for you guys to react to.
"This was Eddie Murphy's FIRST movie...fresh off his run on Saturday Night Live," Actually, Eddie Murphy was on SNL from 1980-1984. He did both 48 HRS. ('82) and Trading Places ('83) while still on SNL.
48 Hrs. was directed by Walter Hill, who also directed the 1979 street gang action film, The Warriors. Actor James Remar, who played Ganz, also played Ajax in The Warriors, and actor David Patrick Kelly, who played Luther, also played the leader of the Rogues in The Warriors, also named Luther.
And David Kelly was in the jail scene with Eddie in Trading Places, also with Giancarlo Esposito, from Breaking Bad. Also in this and Beverly Hills Cop with Eddie was Breaking Bad’s, Mike Armintraud.
Cool Hand Luke has my favorite opening couple of minutes to any film. I busted out laughing and loved how much it told us about Luke before getting into anything. One of the best films ever made.
I agree that another 48 hrs is pretty good (and a lot better than many movies today IMO) & I personally enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the direct / connection to the story of the first film, not just because the two leads Eddie Murphy & Nick Nolte return.
now you know why a lot of us laughed so hard in the theater during "Last Action Hero" when Arnold was getting chewed out by his lieutenant, RIP Frank McRae
This was Eddie Murphy’s big screen debut, he was on Saturday Night Live at the time. It instantly made him a movie star. It’s still my second favorite Eddie Murphy movie ever only behind trading places.
FINALLY, someone reacts to a Walter Hill movie! One of the lesser known but extremely influential directors of the seventies and eighties (and did good work in the nineties too). The Warriors, Southern Comfort, The Long Riders, Brewster's Millions, Streets of Fire.
Eddie Murphy was the biggest star in the world, with 48 Hours, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop I & II, Coming to America, two huge comedy specials, and even a top-10 song ("Party All the Time"), but most everything was Rated R. When he realized that he wouldn't let his own kids watch his movies, he built a second career of family-friendly movies.
What happens in Another 48 hrs? 😂 Just kidding, it’s a great sequel. Eddie was one of the biggest stars in the 80s with his movies (Beverly hills cop, 48 hrs, Coming to America & his stand-up comedy specials.
Apparently the Nick. Nolte character was offered to Clint Eastwood, but he was doing other projects. That would have been fun to watch, but I think Nolte really nailed this role:)
The music for 48 Hrs. was composed by the late Academy Award winning composer James Horner, who would later become famous for composing the music for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Cocoon, and Aliens, which earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Musical Score. Horner would go on to compose the music for An American Tail, The Land Before Time, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Glory, Jumanji, The Amazing Spider-Man, and earned Oscar nominations for his scores for Field of Dreams, Braveheart, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Avatar, and Titanic, which won him the Oscar for Best Original Score. Horner tragically died in an airplane crash in 2015 at the age of 61.
Also Sonny Landham (Billy Bear) was the cop that got hit in the ankles by Swan and the guy that was in the garage when Luther went looking for the car was Rembrandt from the Warriors.
You *might* have been able to sell 80s, but even that filmography is hit and miss. But early 90s? I can even hear Eddie's own raucous laugh on that one. That must only be in comparison to late 90s and beyond, right?
One of Eddies best movies and he was so young. He was 20 years old when they filmed it, I believe he was 21 when it hit the theater. This film, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop and all of his standup comedy films are all rated R. Those of us that grew up in the 1980’s had the honor of seeing prime Eddie. Once Eddie had kids he started doing all the kids movies or PG or PG-13 type films. While many of them are fun films, nothing is better than Prime Eddie from BHC, Trading Places and of course 48Hours. To me he is the greatest comedian of all time, there is a reason Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Kevin Hart call him the GOAT. His standup films, Delirious and Raw are both Iconic. I would certainly recommend watching them both, they are filled with profanity and brutal jokes but it was a different time. If he ever decided to return to the stand up, I would 100% go see him.
The quote "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" is is often attributed to Mark Twain, but literary scholars and San Francisco history buffs believe it is fictional.
Nick Nolte. Man, Nick Nolte. As a nation, we discovered him in 1976 as the co-star of Peter Strauss in the landmark mini-series, Rich Man, Poor Man. Since then, his life and career have been a series of peaks and valleys. For me, he’s always watchable. From comedies to intense dramas, he’s so magnetic and watchable, no matter the size of the role. I recommend him in Prince of Tides, Affliction, Warrior, North Dallas Forty, Teachers, Blue Chip, Tropic Thunder, Cape Fear and Down and Out in Beverly Hills. And if you wanted to dig deep, and commit the time, always always go with Rich Man, Poor Man.
This is THE Grandfather of Buddy-Action-Comedies. The Sequel is just as good as the first one. Walter Hill and James Horner was a great Combo back in the Days.
"And it's Harry, Dexter's dad..." James Remar is a face I have always loved to see pop up ever since I caught The Warriors as a kid (which is also the youngest I've seen him). What a film debut from a 21 year old Eddie Murphy. A movie star right out the gate and along with a SNL a sign of things to come. 48 Hrs is a classic. It's more of an action-thriller with comedy in it IMO. A real "hard rated R" movie. They don't make these type of movies anymore.

This is my Christmas present this year, I've requested this and it's sequel so many times. Walter Hill is one of my fave directors, I like everything he's done (You've done this and Red Heat of his). There were three actors from the Warriors in this movie, James Remar, David Patrick Kelly, and Sonny Landham. Not a big surprise since both The Warriors and 48Hrs are Walter Hill movies. Walter must like Sonny Landham. Before this movie Walter Hill did the movie Southern Comfort. Sonny plays one of the Cajun hunters and one of the other Cajuns, the one with only one arm who is captured by the National Guardsmen, was played by Brion James, who happens to play Kehoe in 48Hrs.

The lady named Candi or Candy that Reggie meets at the club is actress Oliva Brown. Who would go on to portray Det. Trudy Joplin in the 80's cop show Miami Vice in 1984.
@@beyonderbill3409 When the show premiered and for the first 3 seasons both Trudy and Gina were mainly relegated to undercover hookers and or street decoys. Neither actress was given much in the way of character development and it was understandable as Don Johnson was star of the show. So of course, most of the episodes were written around him. It wasn't until season 4 and 5 that we both see Trudy and Gina slightly evolve as detectives. We see small changes in both characters as they became slightly more involved in case work, and we see Trudy using computer more to provide crucial case information. I love it! Thanks so much for doing this one. It's one of my favorites and launched Eddie's career as an action star. He was already a great comedian before this.
The difference between movies now and back then is they actually wrote interesting stories back then. Even though this movie is very funny, it’s a really good cop movie first.
Saw this in my late teens, and one of the things I remember most was the intensity of the first 20 minutes. It was the first movie like that made by Hollywood that I'd ever seen. The gunshots in the movie were the most realistic I've ever heard, as well. Great movie, and I'm glad you reviewed it and enjoyed it!
Finally you guys hit to this one. I don’t think you recognized a couple of people. Billy was Billy in Predator and one of the cops that showed up after the alley fight was Chris Mulkey who was the deputy that was going to shave Rambo in first blood. Luther was the guy Arnold dropped off the cliff in Comando and also in Warriors( Come out to play). You will enjoy the next one also. Oh yeah and Kehoe was in Bladerunner and in a pretty cool movie called Southern Comfort. The band in the bar were The Bus Boys and have some great tunes, specifically There Goes The Neighborhood. Pretty funny song you should check out. Their big hit was Minimum Wage.
Speaking of Arnold - the police chief was Arnold's boss in Last Action Hero, where he played pretty much the same over the top yelling persona. The bartender in the redneck bar played a major role in They Live.
"Billy" was also "Billy" in Predator and Jack's buddy, that was killed at the beginning, Mike is what you called him, was a bad guy in Beverly Hills Cop.
27:37 - "Candie", played here by Olivia Brown, was one of the detectives on the famous 80s cop show, Miami Vice, starring Don Johnson, and Philip Michael Thomas.
This was Eddie's first movie and like Sam said we saw it and were shocked at how good he was in a drama as peeps only knew him from SNL and comedy. This made him a movie star and then he went on to make all his comedies and his career took off. The script here was great and that is what makes the movie. Glad u reacted to this one.
@TBR Schmitt to answer your question, Eddie moved to family-friendly movies because, at the time in the late 90s, his last 2 R Rated projects flopped (kinda) and it was the start of the PG/family-friendly "blockbusters", studios wanted that. So he had to switch it up and he only stuck with it because of his kids and grandkids being excited about his projects. Now he has said, he's at a point where he just wants to do what he likes now and enjoy it.
80's movie are over the top. Even the small ones, with second line actors like Nick Nolte, debuts and such, are beyond good. They are gritty, quick, no BS, no going around, no cheese, excellent
5:37 Fun Fact: SOME people (including myself) will refer to this movie as a sequel to "The Warriors". The reason for this is because both James Remar (Ganz) and David Patrick Kelly (Luthor) are in it. Remar's character in "The Warriors" was named "Ajax" but that could easily have been a gang nickname. David Patrick Kelly's name in "The Warriors" on the other hand was Luthor...same as it is in THIS movie.
One of my favorite lines in cinema begins with "Jack, tell me a story..." Glad you did this one. Not many reactors have done 48hrs and it was Eddie's breakout role.
This is a Walter Hill movie. A year before 48Hrs, Hill did a movie called, "Southern Comfort". It is a great movie, starring Keith Carradine, Powers Boothe, Fred Ward, and Peter Coyote. It has a "Deliverance" feel about it. I highly "Southern Comfort" and "Deliverance" while your at it. I haven't seen anyone else do a reaction to either movie. Give one or both of them a try.
"Mike" is also in Beverly Hills Cop (with Eddie Murphy) and Airplane, among others. He's had consistent parts as a character actor throughout his career.
Glad you got to this. I hate to say anything but I did recommend this a couple years ago. Walter Hill directed 3 of my favorite movies all about this time of the early 80's. This one, "The Warriors" and a very good under rated "Southern Comfort". I hope you can get to them also.
Watch ANOTHER 48 HOURS...Just as great. You're right Dr Doolittle and the preppie gorilla made a great dynamic, definitely loved their chemistry. They were a little more serious Riggs and Murtagh
If you can get it still, Southern Comfort is a great film, with a great cast also The Warriors . Brion James who plays the snarky cop who winds Jack up is a pretty good " bad guy" in a lot of films.
Actor Sonny Landham, who played Billy Bear, Ganz's sidekick, also appeared in Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger, where he played another character named "Billy."

Love this gem, so glad it finally made the channel
It's one of the best buddy cop movies. Great chemistry between Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in his featured debut
Can't wait for your reaction to another 48hrs. It's got more action and laughs.
"Billy" was also "Billy" in Predator and Jack's buddy, that was killed at the beginning, Mike is what you called him, was a bad guy in Beverly Hills Cop.
Billy Bear, the native american actor was Billy in Predator.
Awesome ! This is the first time any channel has covered this movie that i know of.. It's a good movie
Walter Hill movies are severely neglected on these reaction channels. :(
5:49 "Whoa. Mike! What th- With hair. Kind of."
The excitement!! 😊
Eddie had just become a star on Saturday Night Live when he made this, his first film, he was all of 20 years old at the time.
He came at the right time
I love this movie! I'm so glad you guys are watching it.
27:37 - "Candie", played here by Olivia Brown, was one of the detectives on the famous 80s cop show, Miami Vice, starring Don Johnson, and Philip Michael Thomas.
Another 48 Hours is even better!!
Also, the native guy is Sonny Landham, aka the tracker Billy in Predator.
Died with a knife in his hand and named Billy
Be serious. Nobody thinks the sequel is better, but it's still worth watching.
@@jeffrogers2180 agree it's worth the watch
Sonny Landham played in another Walter Hill movie, The Warriors, as a cop.
@@robroy6374So did Luther, as a guy named Luther!
Saw at the theater with my wife!
It fits so well
@TBR Schmitt to answer your question, Eddie moved to family-friendly movies because, at the time in the late 90s, his last 2 R Rated projects flopped (kinda) and it was the start of the PG/family-friendly "blockbusters", studios wanted that. So he had to switch it up and he only stuck with it because of his kids and grandkids being excited about his projects. Now he has said, he's at a point where he just wants to do what he likes now and enjoy it.
But he's smart.
80's movie are over the top. Even the small ones, with second line actors like Nick Nolte, debuts and such, are beyond good. They are gritty, quick, no BS, no going around, no cheese, excellent
I like how you guys were talking at the end not realizing there's a sequel. 😂
Another great Walter hill film is Extreme Prejudice also starring Nick Nolte
5:37 Fun Fact: SOME people (including myself) will refer to this movie as a sequel to "The Warriors". The reason for this is because both James Remar (Ganz) and David Patrick Kelly (Luthor) are in it. Remar's character in "The Warriors" was named "Ajax" but that could easily have been a gang nickname. David Patrick Kelly's name in "The Warriors" on the other hand was Luthor...same as it is in THIS movie.
Great reaction 🔥💯😊
Eddie Murphy breakout movie! Just a year before this was made he was on SNL and even hosted it.
One of my favorite lines in cinema begins with "Jack, tell me a story..." Glad you did this one. Not many reactors have done 48hrs and it was Eddie's breakout role.
Another 48 hrs is a good film as well!
Another 48 Hrs is an awesome sequel with the best sucker punch in the history of movies.
Walter Hill is one of my favorite directors. If you look closely at this movie, it has all the tropes of a Wild West flick.
I’ve been waiting for you guys to react to 48 hours. My favourite Eddie Murphy movie.
Hi to you two!!!
Merry Christmas!!
Was hoping tonight was “Miracle on 34 th Street “!
Will keep an eye out for it!!
Christmas Day as long as copyright allows!
@ Good luck!🍀
I’ve seen others react to it but it sure seems like TH-cam loves giving you two a hard time !
Hang in there!!
"Mike" is also in Beverly Hills Cop (with Eddie Murphy) and Airplane, among others. He's had consistent parts as a character actor throughout his career.
Eddie's very first movie role and he stole the movie .such an 80's classic..oh and there is a sequel Another 48rs came out in 1990
The screaming police lieutenant was also Arnold's screaming boss in "Last Action Hero"
11:31 "You got him for 48 hours."
THAT'S the name of the movie!
Glad you got to this. I hate to say anything but I did recommend this a couple years ago. Walter Hill directed 3 of my favorite movies all about this time of the early 80's. This one, "The Warriors" and a very good under rated "Southern Comfort". I hope you can get to them also.
"Another 48 Hrs." They read your mind about wanting a sequel.
stakeout with richard dreyfuss and emelio estevez would be a good movie to watch for the channel. its another good buddy cop film
Watch ANOTHER 48 HOURS...Just as great. You're right Dr Doolittle and the preppie gorilla made a great dynamic, definitely loved their chemistry. They were a little more serious Riggs and Murtagh
I love the gritty tone of this movie, there isn't the mid 80s slickness creeping in yet. Looking forward to your reaction to "Another 48 Hours"
Great movies in the 80s...it's art....great reaction guys ...ready for Another 48 Hrs
by the way, the captain who is yelling all the time is the same actor who played the captain in The Last Action Hero and is also yelling there
uh...James Remar was Ajax in 1979's "The Warriors". If you haven't seen it, then you need to. Cult classic.
He was in The Warriors for a brief moment as a police officer in the subway station
His name is "billy" in like 4 or 5 different movies. Isn't that hilarious?
Hello Daniel & Samatha!😊 I have not seen this one for many years. I remember it was a big hit in the theater when it came out. Great reactions to this raw buddy film, Guys!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Happy Holidays, Daniel & Samantha!🎄😊
This was Eddie Murphy's first ever movie and he was only 21 when it came out.
Oh I love seeing San Francisco!!
30:32 - Haha, this actor playing the "angry" Police Chief was so popular for playing such roles back in the day that they spoofed it in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, "Last Action Hero". A very underrated, but very creative and fun film. Star studded cast too.
3:00 I saw thing a few months ago for the first time in many years. I'm still limping from James Horner's score! This was when Horner made sure the audience would always remember his score no matter the movie!
It fits so well
I saw this as a kid and really only remembered the scene in the red neck bar. Why my parents let me watch this is beyond me. I'm going to call them now to tell them they failed me.
I like your reactions,
The perspective /ratio of you and the movie you are watching,
you give maximum credit to the movie.❤
