For those who are tired of social injustice in the US, The Year of The Return 2021 calls for you to repatriate to South Africa, and experience a country that values black life.

Harriet Tubman helped the slaves escape to freedom in Canada during the dark days of slavery. What you are doing Echos her efforts. Our people were snatched from the continent and, Africa, (all Africa) will always be your home.

I love the idea of the Return but I hope the holes can be closed that Ghana missed. They made their money but at the end, there was a lack of education and people below the age of 60, who have moved there and are working/building for years did not get citizenship. Meanwhile Sierre Leone is the only African country that has put her money where her mouth is by giving free citizenship (with africanancestry.com results). I've been to SA 5 times. I have a 2nd family there. I feel so at home I just need to meet more friends my age as a millennial. All my friends are my SA spiritual Mom age (60+) LOL

I agree with this. This is why I said it felt more like a tourist marketing ploy than a real call to come and thrive.

The title is misleading somewhat because you can’t return to southern Africa as the enslaved ppl who were shipped to the Americas and Caribbean never came from there. Mostly came from west Africa and some parts of central and bit of east Africa. So you are choosing to immigrating to South Africa as Americans and you’re welcome to SA, you seem like lovely people😊

Great Day Thandisle, Thanks for watching. Yes, the phrase, The Year of the Return was coined for the call from West Africa, However, it is symbolic of returning to Africa. Many Black Americans have not been given much information on the country of South Africa. As I shared in a previous video, I believe that it was an awesome initiative, but there are many who are not aware of all that other African locations can offer them in terms of economic and social stability. While I do understand the use of The Year of The Return may create anticipation of promotion of Ghana or West Africa specifically, I believe that it is an awesome conversation starter for our purposes. What I am interested in though, is what terms you may feel would better capture this initiative to help me better brand this content in the future.

@@ElisaShyreseMinistries It's okay Sis, we're all Africans after all - please don't be apologetic.. I can't imagine the pain some Africans in America go through, the pain of not knowing where to even begin searching for some sort of belonging, I almost shed a tear at your response, I feel your heart, God bless you and your family Sis❤️❤️❤️. You're welcome to drop by our home when you happen to be in Pretoria 😆.

@@ElisaShyreseMinistries my point is you technically can’t return to a place that you nor your ancestors were ever originally from but I get maybe speaking of it as Africa in generic terms but you said SA in title. And yes I know Ghana uses the term as some campaign for Black Americans& Caribbeans to get to know their roots and visit and perhaps resettle there and the term makes senses in west African context as most Black ppl in Americas and Caribbean have ancestry from there; Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, Senegal, Congo etc I think many Black Americans know of SA and it’s development and possible easier to adapt to but i think they just don’t choose to settle there because SA has more stringent laws around immigration and also SA still has a major white supremacist issue and when you move to SA as a Black person or POC you’ll be confronted by it similarly like you did in the US but at least here should $hit go down, Black is majority, so Black ppl will win for sure. It’s an interesting discussion. Personally I get why Black Americans would find SA attractive...it’s the most westernized African country...those are just facts. Quite liberal whilst still maintaining tradition, it’s culturally, ethnically and racially more diverse than most African countries and for US ppl that’s also possibly their norm and comfort

We don't want a year of return here in SA. AAs are from West Africa so you can't return to SA. We are SAcns and we would like to have our country to ourselves and maintain our native ethnicities as well as culture.
