Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie(1999) Yugi vs Kaiba Please Subscribe! Season 0 OVA First Series anime ova Blue-Eyes vs Red-Eyes atem x kaiba, yugi x kaiba, duel links, red-eyes, blue-eyes
Also why Joey is tied to red-eyes. If you see the full movie, Joey fought a bunch of bullies to get back the kid's red-eyes card and yugi used it to show him true bravery and strength. The card has some red marks in the back edge, you can notice it in 0:28 (the card in he middle), 0:50, 1:40 and 2:15. Those red marks are actually Joey's blood, that's why kid knew yugi had red-eyes but didn't use it yet. The very first red-eyes dragon in anime had Joey's blood in it.
The last movie to end bandai owning yugioh, sell yugioh brand to konami. Fyi, before konami gain copyright to print yugioh card, it originally belong to Bandai, however Bandai sell yugioh copyright to yugioh, which what have now. Without the sell to konami, yugioh will become unplayable trading card game, the rulling is so awkward and chaotic if playing Bandai version of yugioh.
*"The Blue Dragon brings victory, while the Red Dragon does not bring victory; only the potential for victory, but only to those with the courage to fight."*
0:29 Bit of a mistake in the subs here. “Demon no Shokan” (Demon’s Summon or Archfiend’s Summoning) is the card’s name, rather than Yugi’s description of his action.
Yes. That's why it's Summoned Skull in English. They just replaced demon with skull but kept summoned the same. It would be called Summoned Archfiend if it released today, as you said.
Blue-Eyes: *will bring you victory* Red-Eyes: *Only has potential to grow stronger* It's been years since the archetype was created and we're still waiting for that "hidden potential" to be unleashed
I’m more impressed that he even got a red eyes those things are rarer then blue eyes considering I know of 1 original owner of this singular card at this time
I always thought it was cool how Red Eyes representing potential was a concept introduced in this movie, but it carried over to the manga, with Red Eyes gaining new forms through fusion or other cards.
Red-Eyes joining force with others, Dark Magician, Archfiends, Warriors, or other Dragons ... And even Zombies ... While Blue-Eyes only join with fellow Blue-Eyes and Whites ...
I hope that, as reference to this OVA, we could get one day another ANOTHER Red-Eyes Retrain that can special summon itself from hand by revealing a fusion monster from the extra deck, and if it summons itself its name becomes the name of a monster mentioned among its fusion materials. and that it can fusion summon using monsters on your hand or field, including that card
It's kinda funny how Red-Eyes' "potential" that they spend this entire OVA talking about is just being used as fusion material. It feels a bit underwhelming, especially when Blue-Eyes is also fusion material for a much stronger monster.
You have to remember this was during the season ZERO type of material where things were more loose and dungeons and dragons like in terms of presentation. Also duel monsters was just one of the SIDE GAMES that was part of the rotation of games done during season zero that became popularized as the focal point. Even during season’1’ of yugioh ‘DUEL MONSTERS’, they were still using the loose rules at the start and mostly just re’releasing the original stuff shown in season zero, with some retooling of things and it wasn’t till battle city they really focused on actual rules for the game. To represent gimmicks better, they had special attacks tied to those iconic creatures as spell cards, equipment and so on instead. Ultimately your just being a current generation yugioh tcg player looking at ancient media before the TCG got established in its initial format that persisted to this day. Because the tcg that season 0 yugioh had is a WHOLE LOT DIFFERENT, then what the current one is.
@@BladeSerph Thank you for the history lesson, but I did already know all of that. I think the original point still stands: In this scene, Red-Eyes, the card, didn't have any special power or high ATK that won the battle. All Red-Eyes did was be there in order to be used as fusion material. Yugi wouldn't have even been able to summon a monster stronger than the weakened Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon without Polymerization, the real MVP of this duel. The only "potential" Red-Eyes really has in this version of Yu-Gi-Oh is being listed as a material on a few fusion monsters, and having decent stats in an era where tributing wasn't necessary.
@@wavewingman5993 Back then effects werent such an excessive thing and more of a hidden meaning shenigan. Plus it was an OVA, OVAs tend to either as a promotional material service or just fk-tons of fan-service mechanics. Plus its a TCG in DnD style rulings. DnD rulings all work around coming up with creative intepretations of mechanics to achieve ridiculous results, that just gets easier to work in more logical sense with more `modern` rules, long as they didnt put in bull-shite that fixate mechanics and ignore creative subtle`ties that result in loop holes. Your thinking too literal and not thinking much on symbology instead. Plus blue eyes ultimate dragon wasnt really much of a thing back then and lets not forget in the ORIGINAL SEASON ONE OF DUEL MONSTERS YUGIOH, the way Blue-eyes ultimate dragon was literally defeated by performing a MIS-FUSION, with Mammoth graveyard to result in its attack points being severely dampened by it MELTING from a in-correct fusion. If this was current day yugioh rules, then the fusion would be invalid because yugi would lack an applicable fusion material target in his extra deck... When in SEASON ZERO AND SEASON ONE Yugioh rules, its more of intepretation of declaring your explaination and making the explaination MAKE SENSE AND STICK. This is why in DnD, people could do crap like seduce a mother fking Dragon in order to work for them or to not kill them, its romancism that plays at the emotions of the dungeon master and players to just: `Alright this is amusing so lets let it fking cook.` This is why you end up with creative things like people in mechas still fighting even after the main camera (head) is destroyed... Or even when in a game system, despite the fact they are heavily crippled and should not be able todo much at all, they still push on because they still have 1 Life/Health point and still make another attempt at still going, even if they have to literally throw hands directly. Back in season 0, Blue eyes white dragon could be intepreted as a engine of destruction as in, having the largest stats and not much else to it. Red eyes is just represented as giving the chance to get victory, not simply represent victory, so it acting as the source to find another means to victory makes sense... Such as being used as the CONDITION to make a fusion summon or to activate the effect of a special card. Its just with Yugioh, especially with battle city and later, the romanticism of such elements got HEAVILY WATERED DOWN because now it just got made more of a typical mechanic as more and more archetypes became a thing and cards were made more and more bull-shite levels of power. This is also why Yugioh has lost its iconic feels elements and the anime has turned to hot garbage that tries to shove so many `new sets of arche types` sometimes half a dozen in a single fking episode, instead of having any actual story at all when its over-saturated with some random bull-shite duels now-a-days more then any actual story. And it also reflects in the TCG where people care far less on going with themes and just run a buncha cards that can spin a loop of russian dancing poker-style strip chest 4th dimensional billiards, because they are just using effectively thar entire deck to just summon a bunch of monsters that have ridiculously broken mechanics even if they used 10 times the amount of materials normally used to summon said monsters, because they want to make a retarded loop of milling thar deck to only draw OP shite afterwards on top of doing perma-lock downs to opponent`s actions in the FIRST FKING TURN OF THE GAME TOO. Moral of the story: Romance is dead, now its just soul-less monetization now a days.

"Red-Eyes Black Dragon brings the potential"....based on how Red-Eyes evolved i have only 1 thing to say.....Megumi Fushiguro found his perfect rival in Red-Eyes...for the title of the "Potential Man"😂😂
When i watch this movie, my mind be like: oh thats why red eyes fusion work like that, you need courage to use it n can only summon potential victory aka dragoon (or play any combo deck with courage have 3 garnet in your deck to summon dragoon)
Early Yu-Gi-Oh was weird with Duel Monsters. There was no Ultimate Dragon at the time the movie was being developed to my knowledge, though it did make its first appearance at least two days before this movie premiered. (Couldn't find the dates for the individual chapters, but the volume release that BEUD first appeared in was two days prior.) So, they had Kaiba use the card Wicked Chains to tie the three together. This ties into how they are defeated as well since apparently, Meteor Dragon destroyed the chains and attacked a single BEWD. (Honestly, this is my only idea as to why they might not have wanted to use fusion as it seems to have existed by that point. Without the chains concept, Meteor Dragon would have needed 5700 Attack Points to win Yugi the duel.)
Believe it or not, the original Yu-Gi-Oh manga/anime was never meant to be a glorified card game ad, unlike all of its sequels. The game before getting the rules was pretty much a mix between MTG and a tabletop rpg, and just that, a game where the creatures happened to be inspired from ancient egyptian magic rituals. Complaining about the early anime not using the rules is like whining about FFVIII not being fully focused on Triple Triad. It was not the point.
Ah, the battle Konami is trying to make people forget by shoving all the Blue-Eyes garbage down our throats (No offense to Blue-Eyes fans) and giving Red-Eyes fans stuff full of stipulations...
Oh, so THIS is why Meteor Dragon is tied to Red Eyes.
Also why Joey is tied to red-eyes. If you see the full movie, Joey fought a bunch of bullies to get back the kid's red-eyes card and yugi used it to show him true bravery and strength.
