When she takes off slowly pick up on one rein and bend her down to a stop. Then let the rein and go and if she takes off repeat until she doesn’t do it. Go slow and don’t jerk her around.
Ok so I have a very sweet mare. But she's one of them that she likes to keep her head up while trotting she's full blood Quarter Horse. I'd really like for her to put her head down while trotting. Would this still be ok for my problem?

My horse does the head up and rooting when I'm asking her to leave the driveway (by turning her to the right), away from the barn OR when she wants to go home and I turn her around. Would I use the same technique?
Yes you could for sure. Also think about making the wrong thing difficult (going to the barn) and the right thing easy (going away) something to consider maybe doing some work at the barn then releasing onto the direction away from the barn. But you need to make sure that the release comes after enough pressure is applied. Also check out our membership site. Thank you. Good video, really.. Trot is not biggest problem, but canter.horse wants to speed up also. My farm is in the mountains, I don't have flat space to built a big round pen.. It's easier to adress this problem when you circle them, but for me the only option is on straight trails. Any suggestions please. Thanks again, and greetings out of south-africa
And I also understand it's difficult to give advice, if you don't know the particular horse or can work with him by yourself. It is a hot headed arabianxappaloosa,loves to run and fast, and kind of spooky(although this gets better and better) Very responsive to legs and hands. Collects very nice,but does not have self carriage yet, he doesn't stay in a collected frame..back-up very good and soft in a good frame.. I can do one rein stops, but can't circle smaller and smaller to break some of the speed because of the area I live in
@@franzenmaritzadelie9400 I’d focus on using 1 rein at time and getting lateral flexion in him and holding it till he stops moving his feet. Then let him out on a loose rein. Once he starts gaining speed do it again and again and again. This will help relax his mind and body as king as you give him a loose rein. Start at the walk once you can walk on a loose rein the work on trot then canter.
Great content, feel and timing! I find that often the case with head lifting horses is the lack of muscles for self carriage.

Bit looks like it’s bothering her to me
Might be picking her head up to remove pressure from it
If the problem persisted then the bit may have been the problem. She settled into it real well and did great.
