(I do always admire Ven. Pomnyun's honest, sharp and correct insight(answer) and the simultaneous interpreter's wonderful translation. Hope every video of his lecture spread all over the world so they can get comfort and awakening enlightenment~ )

      How do Buddhists resolve the contradiction that everything is impermanent and beings are reincarnated? Even the enlightened are somewhere forever.
      It seems to me that our essence is permanent. Whether it is our soul or our self, it exists forever and is indestructible.
      The Dalai Lama is the reincarnation of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion and mercy as were all his predecessors.
      Thank you

    종교는 다르지만 저도 수행자입니다. ^^ 감사합니다.

    Of course there are contridictions, buddhism is a manmade belief and I am proud of this fact… tthere is no claim for divinity, this is made by human all with our intelligence and flaws. The only constant is change, buddha’s words are not finite, it’s only a guidance for you to make your own decisions whether that leads you to god, or enlightenment or just being a good human being. It doesn’t matter

    I don' agree on the part that buddhism had some influence from indian ancient tradition because buddha rejected the idea of rites and ritual , caste system and creator god which was very much prevelant at that time ...moreover buddhism is a part of Shramanic tradition. ..buddha imphasised on non self(anatma ),which has its root in dependent origination or emptiness and vipasana (ensight meditation to know the true nature of reality ),self creation instead of creator god. ..which is still to this day concepts only found in buddhist tradition. ..

    • @kleeo83
      @kleeo83 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tenzin Negi by Indian cultural influence he is talking about cultural aspect of buddhism which passed on from india, china then to korea. On Buddhism as a practice and its base teachings (as buddha himself taught) his view is same as yours.

    • @believer1465
      @believer1465 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      kleeo83 buddhism is not linked with any culture nor their is any concept of holy land. .. ..Buddhism is not even a religion it is a practice and philosophy. ..That's why buddhism in china or chinese buddhism(combation of taoism and confucianism ) is very different from what is practised in srilanka or india. .

    • @kleeo83
      @kleeo83 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Tenzin Negi As Buddhist fundamental describe all is empty. Buddhism as religion exists, not as an idea but as a medium to carry that core idea. To exist on Buddhism has developed a way to coexist with cultural practices with that land. That is no different even with southeast asia or india, Only different in its cultural aspect. The core idea of Buddhism itself is universal.

      @@believer1465 As Buddhism traveled throughout the world, and even as time passed in India, it began to incorporated local aspects of the time and place. Even Sri Lankan Buddhism is influenced by Hindu practices (Richard Gombrich). Additionally, as soon as 100 years of the Buddha's Mahaparinibbana we can see the local Indian influences taking place in form of the 1st Buddhist Schism of the Sthravira and Mahasamghikas. Furthermore contemporary Indian Buddhism has been imported from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. However, the biggest influence in the revival of Indian Buddhism is due to Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar who convinced many of the "Dalits" to convert to Buddhism.

    She asked an excellent question,
    he completely avoided the answer.
    The thing is that right at this moment in history Korean society is completely materialistic and judgmental.
    If I donate money to the temple in exchange for a prayer I also receive an upgrade in social recognition.
    But that has nothing to do with a true teachings of Buddha, Pomnyun sunim.

    • @yongpark5302

      Do share your thoughts. I believe 법륜스님 answered beautifully in a single sentence. By admitting there are contradictions to the religion itself.
      I also thought her question was beautiful and admit that she was absolutely right. I suspect you misunderstood the translation.

    • @mexicotaco0913
      @mexicotaco0913 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1. You misunderstood the answer. He explained by recognizing the contradictions in his own religion. 2. You also make a broad assumption that Korea is "completely" materialistic and judgemental, but Korea is also very secular at the same time. No one would bat an eye even if you donate one million dollars to a church, temple, w/e, unless you're deeply involved in that religious community, which is not the majority.

    What an intelligent woman. That's just one of the contradictions in Budhism, even Budha's own 4 noble truths contradict each other. If you want true peace, come to Jesus Christ! "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, so whoever believes on him should have eternal life."
    John 3:16

    • @udayangadananjaya7914
      @udayangadananjaya7914 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In 4 noble truth there is no any contradictions. If you think like that that reminds your misunderstanding about that. There might be contradictions in your understandings not in buddhas teachings.

    • @cedward85
      @cedward85 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some simple reasoning shows that it does contradict itself. The four noble truths 1.) Suffering exists 2.) Suffering is caused by desire 3) eliminate desire to eliminate suffering 4) following eightfold path rids desire and reaches nirvana. Firstly, we all have desire so it's impossible to rid desire, unless we are dead. Secondly, following the eightfold path would be, by definition, "desire" so you haven't ended any desire, a clear self- contradiction

    • @udayangadananjaya7914
      @udayangadananjaya7914 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cedward85 see thats why i told that you are misunderstood. Buddha himself said that if someone want to become enlightened then they have desire. And that desire also will remove after the enlightenment and then they don't want to show or teached about that. Onece buddha said " we use a boat only for cross the rever.you Don't take the boat and put it in your back after when you cross the rever." Desire and the dhramma buddha taugt is the boat and it is only useful until you become enlightened. After that you don't need it anymore and you don't try to protect it or spred it unless if someone asked you to explain it to them or teach it to them. Thats why buddhism teached disire is not a bad thing but a thing must be control by ourselves until we become enlightened

    • @udayangadananjaya7914
      @udayangadananjaya7914 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cedward85 and you wil see if you see it carefully in eightfold path that how you should practice it .buddhism is to practice. When you practice eightfold path then you will learn how to control your disires and you will see what is the corse of desires and then you know how to use that desires also. Continues practice is the main path to enlightenment and it is not always happening in one life. Buddha also spent milions of births to learn and practice it. Enlightenment didn't just happened in one night. It is a result of that practice.

    • @anestos2180
      @anestos2180 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@udayangadananjaya7914 well i have read a lot of teaching too but i observe a contradiction on what you say too. practice and control implies effort so there is a motive of desire behind it. if you control your desires it is a motive to achieve something that's in the field of the known so its out of the meditation state. no you don't need time to become enlightened because otherwise you operate in the field of time which is a psychological product of thought . that product is the ego which is illusion so gautama didn't become enlightened because of practice but because he observed or understood that through practice and effort the mind works in the field of the ego. that's why the moment he rejected his strict austerities of 7 years was outside of that field and then there is only the state of peace (enlightenment).

  • @allal8044
    @allal8044 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If he is awakened then he is not dead. I know he is not dead for sure so then he is some where in some form but awakened. So why do you not search for that Buddha who is awakened and present in both world. Ritual are ok but extreme longing and thoughtful of Awakened Buddha will definitely yield in supreme Union.
