    Your Videos are so helpful and inspiring. I’m incredibly grateful for your teachings. One additional thing that can help in becoming a better flute player, is spending lots of time listening to flute music you like, especially by accomplished players…. We can let the music expand us.

    Clint, your information was extremely useful in becoming a better flute player. I loved your thoughts on how to listen to your playing and all of the elements of music to be aware of. Thank you for sharing, I am glad I came across you today and look forward to more videos!

    I purchased my first flute last year after living my Life believing I would never be able to learn despite my deep fascination with - and love of - wind instruments. I've been slowly, but steadily improving, but felt lost when it came to having guidance. I'm so glad I found you as I sense I've discovered a deeply passionate player who's sharing from the heart. Thank you Clint! If you ever come to Australia, I'll be so keen to join a workshop or receive a lesson. PEACE

    You mention taking experiences from life and using your strengths and skills from life to make you a better flute player. As a martial artist, I rely very much on repition to build muscle memory, both in the body but also in the mind, the mind being the most imortant muscle. Muscle memory is key for what are called flow states, you master enough forms that they become tools to express yourself. This is how I have approached my flute playing, I will find something I like on the flute, and repeat it probably close to 100 times until I can do it without thought or effort, at that point what I have trained myself to do becomes a part of me that is now inseperable, I will never lose it. Because of this, and because of people like you, I have progressed quickly and can play almost anything I feel, even if it takes expirimenting for a day first.

    Great tips, very inspiring, I hope to attend one or more of your workshops in the future. A friend from one of my flute circles, Karen, has attended Flute Haven and said it was a great experience. She highly recommended attending, said it would really help me grow. She mentioned being your grip for the event, and that loved the learning experience. Thanks for all you do, Clint!

      Karen was *great* - she hauled and set up an amazing amount of gear throughout that week ... and then popped on stage and jammed ... all ... night ... long. Hope our paths cross down the line!

      @@ClintGoss Yes, she is, and she's been very instrumental in my flute journey. Between her input at flute circles 2 or 3 times a month and your videos, I owe a lot of where I am and how quickly I got here to you both!

    Another wonderful video! I especially like the terms "finite music vs. infinite music" and "anxious concentration." I think these terms apply describe the biggest hurdles that new flute players have to overcome, especially those with some musical training.

    • @ClintGoss
      @ClintGoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Finite music" is a phrase I heard from David Darling. "Anxious concentration" is a "brain science" phrase for a particular brain state that tends to be is associated with poor physiology metrics - blood pressure, heart rate variability, etc.

      @@ClintGoss Interesting! I'm familiar with David Darling but hadn't heard this concept before. Thank for elucidating!

    Incredible! Thank you so much. This gave me such direction. I am a rank stranger to the NAF. My 1st instrument is guitar. I am also a singer. I will turn 71 in May! This week I binge watched TH-cam. Yesterday I went into my garage and made a PVC flute in F#. I took a stab at playing Wayfaring Stranger. To my delight, it worked nicely! Because I have played guitar for 50 years, I understand what is going on here with pentatonic scales and improv. I have usually allowed others to solo while playing chord progressions underneath. Now, I look forward to developing my own ability to improvise with the flute. To say I am excited would be an understatement. THANK YOU!

    Clint - Where exactly did you get that chart for the nine emotions? Is it from the traditional teachings of some Native American tribe? I know that in Indian music, there is what is called the Nava Rasa, which basically translates as the nine moods or emotions. This was a very good video, and I will have to review it.

    • @ClintGoss
      @ClintGoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nai Man! Yes, it is based on the Navarasa as far as music practice is concerned ... and I found parallels in the Pacific Northwest narratives (and imagery).

    • @naiman4535
      @naiman4535 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ClintGoss Yes, Clint. I answered my own question when I went back and took a closer look at the chart. East Indian and American culture connect via the Native Flute - so the totem animals for the different moods are from the Pacific Northwest? Heck - the Native American Style Flute plays for yoga classes, and that's how the two cultures interface!
