Like you, I was duped by eBay listings. One of my New Year's Resolutions is to get rid of all the junk in my house. As I was cleaning out the store room, I found the 3 giant bins of Beanie Babies I had as a kid. I immediately got on eBay and started looking at the listings. I saw a bear listed for $10,000. I got excited because I have the same bear. I looked at the tags and it has the same errors as the one listed on eBay. It even has the brown nose instead of the black nose. I was thrilled and thought I finally had a way to pay off my student loans and buy new living room furniture. As I was getting ready to list the bear tonight, I saw that there were a lot of the same bears listed with the same errors for only $10 or $15. This confused me. Is it really worth $10K or is it only worth a few bucks? What's the real value of my bear? That's when I decided to do some more research and I found your video. I guess I'm not going to get rich off my Beanie Babies. LOL! I'll probably end up lotting them up by similar animal. Hopefully I can make at least a few hundred dollars from them.
Thanks for all the great tips - really appreciate it! Don't want to go hunt and stuff, but gives me a good idea what I can do with stuff I already have. If you don't mind, as far as Beanies (already have from childhood, want to actually get rid of them not list for exorbitant amounts that won't actually sell). How do I find out what Beanies are actually SELLING for so I can list for competitive prices -- not what they're being listed as.
I just went to my closet, and pulled out my mom's beanies(she passed 12-12-12) I have all the "real" rare ones... including the ghost princess. Holy crap!!!!!
I think they are a good pick to have in your personal collection. They will be worth more later down the road when were getting ready to retire... might not be like in the thousands but you never actually know and that's the thing. So I say if you see some you loved as a kid or some that just speak to you grab them and wait if you can. 💖 I'm a 90s kid so I love picking them but I make sure to get ones that I personally love and don't go over board either and like I said you never know what the future holds!
It’s a shame I found you 4 years later. There are real collectors out there. And we don’t care if they aren’t worth anything. We do it because we love it. Bears is where it’s at 😊 I have about 650 bears. I’m only here because we are getting older and I need to downsize
Tip, buy a few beanie babies and list them for crazy high prices. The news articles will drive people to your listings which will also drive people to your other listings. I do it with black diamond VHS. Everyone seems to think this has room do with money laundering. It actually has more to do with traffic and visibility.
I actually sold an older green frog for $50 (old tag) and I do decent with the buddies and pillow pals and even the attic ones. Otherwise I get like $2 each and they don't sell as singles, I have to lot them up. I still think they are worth picking up cheap, but yeah flipping them for big money is rare
I'm so sorry that you had to learn the hard way! There's a lot of misinformation on the internet, a lot of articles written as clickbait to generate ad revenue, that sort of thing. I'm active in a couple of Beanie groups on Facebook and people get really upset (and angry!) when they find out that their mass-produced Beanies are worth $2. It's kinda heartbreaking to give them the truth when they think they're going to pay off medical bills and student loans.
This was a great video to watch! Very interesting. I have started collecting beanie babies (not to sell) I just love them on my bookshelf. But I have come across some ridiculous prices on eBay. I think the people selling them are from the generation that went through the 90's beanie craze and they can't get past the fact that they are no longer a huge desirable item. So much fun to watch tho....!
I bought about 80 beanie babies for .50 cents each, not with the intention of selling them for hundreds of dollars, but for at least 5 to 10 dollars. By the way, how much for mama and baby bear?
OM I want to go there!! Where are the goodwill bins?? Do they have them in every town and state? I have a goodwill in my town and they have a couple huge dumpsters behind the place unloading things to sell from donations, but we wouldn't be allowed to look through that stuff. It's probably a whole different thing. Where would I find this goodwill bins place?
What is your advice for selling beanie babies on Etsy? I have a lot of them. I would like to sell them. There are certain ones that I will keep. The ones I plan on keeping, I would only sell them if I had to.
Hi! First of all, thank you for watching! And while I would love to be able to answer your question and help you out, I have to admit I have never sold ANYTHING on Etsy! I've only even SEEN the platform one time, when I purchased some homemade printable sheets for my bullet journal. I'm lost when it comes to Etsy.
Flippin Hippos ok. So what is your advice to selling them? Are any of them worth money? How much should I sell them for? I would like to get as much as I can for them. I could use the extra money.
The only, and best, advice I can really give you is to take the time to look each one up on eBay. Look at the SOLDS not the listings and see what they historically sell for. You'll find out if you have any worth money, if not, you can lot them up and sell them.
Let me put some thought into this- I am not sure if I want to relist on eBay auction or just start breaking them up, weighing them, and charging like 50 cents to a $1 apiece plus shipping and sending invoices through PayPal.
so my sister collects these and she has the valentino one although she got it from a thrift store it doesn’t have a tag. is it still worth anything and how much is it worth?

Maybe put one each in large orders as a thank you? Especially on Poshmark...they go for that sort of thing. Sell them as party favors? A kids' party could have one in each thank you bag. Valentine's Day is coming up... a child could give one to each child in their classroom. Something like that. Hope you get a nice return on them :-D

The problem here is that people go to thrift stores and find these items. Then expect them to have the same value that they would, if they purchase them in the store. If you purchase them in store and you keep them in pristine condition in their original packaging it really increases the value of these they become collectibles. Just like coins you can't get the same amount of money for rusted Penny as you would for one in pristine condition.

OMG I have 100s of them that my Mother bought in the 90s. I've just left them in a big bins for years.
I ran across patti the platypus bean baby and one of the three rare bunnies
You know I HAD to come here after Bill/Dave directed us.....lol. Also gave you a thumbs up ;-)
😂😂
What's up with the ones that have been selling for $50 to like $500 lately on ebay?
There's a lot of reasons, none of them on the up and up.

I don't even know where they are now, we packed them up in storage intending to redonate for the tax write off.
My mom swears they will have a comeback someday. Probably not in our lifetime though. Maybe our great grandkids
Darn, I was saving mine for retirement...
I give them out to the children at church and they love them as i do too.

Flippin Hippos ok. What is your advice in general for selling beanie babies? I have never used Ebay to sell anything.
They really don't do well on eBay. That's why I made this video, because we didn't know better and bought all these beanie babies. . . . and crickets.

A tush tag!
😄
How should you package and ship just one beanie baby - can you put it in a bubble envelope?
If it doesn't have any hang tags I'd wrap it in tissue paper and send in a poly bag. Otherwise, a small box.
@@FlippinHippos Great - thank you :)
Absolutely!
What if it does have hang tags?
Just ship off my product in a small bubble envelope. Only cost me 3.20

Without tags, the value of items does decrease.
I wouldn't know off hand what he's worth - you could do a Google search or check on eBay.
if it has a tag it's worth money but if it doesn't have a tag it's not worth money thing I got mine from the store I had to talk to her and everything
