Marvel has their very own One Punch Man called... Fight-Man and he's surprisingly great!

I feel like Agent X could have been pretty cool if he was "opposite deadpool" In the sense that he just takes everything seriously, but nonsense just happens around him, and he's forced to deal with stupid silly situations but he just wants to be taken seriously.
Even as a Deadpool hater, this sounds hilarious.
The ultimate straight man
@@walidhammadou4605 You could even take it one step further by making him extraordinarily straight because Deadpool is pansexual. Multiple layers to the joke.
No make agent x gay he is a straight man that is not straight
@@ComicDrakeby extraordinairily straight what do you mean?
If Fight-Man does get a new story, I want it to be a commentary on the oversaturation of asshole superheroes.
There are many ways to go about it.
He could just take it so over the top and satirize the whole thing, or he could be like in his follow up comic where he's a living embodiment of the consequences of being an asshole superhero.
@@Fernando-ek8jpIt be fun if Fight Man does the stuff he used to be criticized for (and expects to be again) only for there being no consequences anymore, because Marvel heroes are constantly turning into villains and their world is ending every other year. So eventually he realizes something is wrong and even misses being called on his bs.
@@JonoSSDand the general public treats it like yet another Tuesday when he tries it
The whole “flying this poor lady into space until she agreed to date him” thing reminded me of Tighten from Megamind lol… That’s next-level messed up 😅
I love how everyone continues the credits joke, he is officially Tighten...and wouldn't be able to write it.
that was my EXACT thought when I heard him say that lol
That's actually what Mickey Mouse did to Minnie in the first ever Mickey cartoon, Plane Crazy
Wow, Dorkin's rant was straight up prophetic. Or maybe he's just one of the few creators back then that wasn't blinded by dollar signs
So Evan was so based, but no one would ever know he was one the few to say it first.
For a bit of context behind Agent X, the reason the comic felt so much like Deadpool is because it essentially was Deadpool. The main Deadpool run at the time ended with Wade seemingly dying, and then some time later Agent X debuts with the exact same team writing and illustrating. The whole mystery behind Agent X was if he was Deadpool or not.
Here i thought Squirrel Girl was Marvel’s One Punch Man

The Dorkin interview really is so ahead of its time, for certain groups it would still be controversial so it's really cool to see him go about it in the 90s
Pretty sure there were a lot of people thinking the same thing at the time tbh, specially in the indie scene.
While I wasn't the writer who worked on Fight-Man's entry in our run of Official Handbooks, I do recall a bit of push-back from the higher-ups about cementing the FM issue as 616-canon (even with the Agent X follow-up having long been out), but they finally relented.
Marvel has so many underused characters with potential that deserve a chance at the spotlight. That's why I love the Initiative, it assembled so many obscure characters
5:34 This is even funnier considering Strong Guy is the name of an actual main universe Marvel hero who in the 90s was an active member of X-Factor.
"Fight-Man! Ah-ah-ah!
Fighter of the...everything!"
Fight-Man and One Punch Man sitting in a bar 🍻
I like to think Fight Man’s catch phrase is “I like to fight, Man”
Evan made Milk and Cheese, wrote bunch of eps for Superman the animated series, created Live Wire....amazing career and truly underrated indie king
When good dairy product go bad! Milk and Cheese needs a modern grungy animation.
Ooooh, I didn't know that he created Livewire, awesome to know
@@stevencooper564 Same. That is fascinating!
9:31 It's a good thing Dropout is going mainstream but I feel like I'm being haunted by Sam Reich
You are. Every time you look away and you think he's gone, it turns out he's actually been here the whole time.
@@ComicDrakefear
@@ComicDrakeSam says scream in terror at he beginning of your next video.
I'm SO GLAD people noticed this, because for a second I thought I was crazy when I thought I saw Sam there D:
But yes, he's been there THE WHOLE TIME.
You don't know how happy it made me to think seeing that thumbnail "Hey this looks like Evan Dorkin's work," then someone in the top comments immediately confirms it for me.
Edit: Based of you to promote Dorkin's other work since it's my understanding he's trying to get a new printing of The Eltingville Club's hardcover off the ground with Dark Horse and I would want that thing so badly.
For real though, Marvel should have an official crossover with One Punch Man
He'd get along great with the street-level heroes
@@commonviewer2488 Saitama totally would.
Well the physical OPM manga is published by Shueisha and Marvel has an in with them via their working relationship with Toei who makes anime for the Shueisha-owned Dragon Ball and One Piece (among others, though I have no idea how many other still active Shueisha properties they're still working on. I mean JC Staff has the anime rights to OPM, Bones has the anime rights to Hero Academia and MAPPA has the anime rights to JJK) so it could possibly happen.
@@mattwo7 We can dream
I could imagine Fight Man appearing in a She-Hulk comic in which he's on trial for breaking his parole
And she-hulk trying to argue that he was technically just defending himself from his crazy ex that was trying to murder him and already killed a guy she was in a relationship with for no reason other then she could that at least from the context of the video seems to be mostly true
the entire One Shot mythos is so goofy
Fight Man is Captain Celebrity before the character arc
They should bring Fight Man back, with like, a show or something, I feel like people would like it
I think a miniseries would work
I could see him somehow fitting in "The Tick" universe 😅
@@joezar33 Same
I think the very best way to include Fight Man is to have him exist as a reoccurring cutaway gag. Use his idiotic "heroics" and property damage to explain why a hero is absent, why some easy solution isn't currently viable, and generally why things are more inconvenient for the story's hero.
And make the tagline that's associated with him: "God DAMN it, Fight-Man!"
Oh wow, this Evan Dorkin understood *every problem* with comics. If only they listened to him.
Apparently Drake liked Fight Man so much that he nestled his logo into the background!
I'm always looking for new comics that I love so much that I'll make them a permanent fixture of the set.
The one-shot is legitimately one of the best books I have read in a good while.
And of course, the “these are for dateless dudes” problem has not gotten any less stark among big 2 comics. But guys like Dorkin are out there creating good stuff on their own. People forget that the big 2 isn’t all there is.
I completely agree, but you gotta admit it's a bit funny coming from a guy named "Dork-in"
Ironically, the same "dateless dudes" subculture includes female cosplayers and fanfic writers!
12:28 Amen to everything he said. Who’s fighting in high heels with bosom exposed? I just asked myself that last night for the thousandth time.
The other day I found my copy of Thor & Loki: blood brothers, and flipped through it, remembering how great the story was. Then I got to the Hela and... yeah nvm
O mighty Disney above, if you can hear my words know that I would totally watch an animated Fight Man series on Disney+ or Hulu.
"There's no reason to keep publicizing the fact that this industry's mostly male and dateless" Holy shit based
JESUS, that interview he did was scorched earth.
Never thought you would talk about Fight Man but here we are
Can you do Agents of Atlas' Wave in the future? The only major filipino superhero, who was so hyped mostly in Asia when introduced, but just like Luna Snow, was left out in the sidelines after Atlantis Attacks and Agents of Atlas🤧
game changer reference in my comic drake? what a time to be alive
Not the first and definitely not the last. I'm hopelessly addicted to Dropout content and would give my left arm to make an appearance on Um Actually.
ONE PUUUUUUUUNNNNNCCCHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want a crossover between Fight Man and One Punch Man.
Impotent Rage from GTA looks like Fight Man 😂
YO!!
So many great ideas in the 90s comics, the problem is that they were in the 90s comics
I like the idea of Fight Man taking on c list villains and he is such an a hole that essentially they run back to the heroes and beg to take them back like an ex. How about a video on content creator's comics like Astonishing Times by Variant Comics?
Damn, that interview clip was scathing and really well-put. What a legend
Fight man vs lobo Is what i want to see for real
Parody vs Parody. Sounds chaotic to read
I could see a more modern version taking on the idea of making the main character Fight Man II, a legacy hero using the old one's moniker, and having to deal with "too much continuity" as well as finding space for his UNIQUE stories outside of just "what the fans are familiar with".
Then have a running gag of every time he's JUST starting to get some headway on moving his OWN story and his OWN character development, he's hit with an "event" like a train that disrupts everything and he has to start building that momentum all over again.
Maybe even have his power set be significantly smaller, but this in turn means all the A-Class heroes keep crapping on his achievements because IN COMPARISON, they're nothing.
That sounds actually good. I would definitely read just based on the premise
I love having Dan! As the voice for the comic creators
IMO Evan's best comic series is Pirate Corp$, later renamed to Hectic Planet. It was my gateway to his work. When he did Bill and Ted I was absolutely over the moon about it, one of my favorite artists making stories for one of my favorite movies XD
Long time Evan Dorkin fan. You hit a lot of great points with the sheer fun of Fight Man. Evan's a fantastic humorist. Additionally, he's a master of horror. See his recent books such as Blackwood in addition to the Beasts of Burden both from Darkhorse. He and his wife are just amazing people
Wow he really went to town on that interview, he was spot on
Fight Man and his villains could easily exist in the Venture Bros. universe.😂🎬
Fight-man feels like a hero from the boys universe
You could do a video about Agent-X. I have no idea what the behind the scenes were, but as I remember it that run came out between the end of the original Deadpool run and Cable & Deadpool. Deadpool was 'dead' at this point, hence everyone asuming Agent-X is Deadpool. He isn't, but I'm curious if he was originally meant to be, as it did read like it to a 12 year old me.
DAN! ON THE VOICEOVER! Hell yeah 🤙🏽
Hey suprise Dan!
HES BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK
Nah he was really spittin back in the day
I knew INSTANTLY from the thumbnail, never seen this character before, but just his FACE, I went “that’s an Evan Dorkin character isn’t it”. Looks exactly like his Bill and Ted faces.
Thank you so much for making this
Evan Dorkin seems like a fascinating creator given Eltingville actively highlighted the nasty and entitled side of fandom and how damn toxic it could be with it's main "protagonists" and how it almost had a chance of being a TV series, only for the pilot being so expensive it could only get off the ground if someone was willing to invest in it.
I say make a team book with Deadpool, Squirrel Girl and Fight Man and call it The Big Three.
squirrel girl is cringe
Fight Man, Big, Bigger, and Biggest man all do seem like Aquabats characters for sure
If you don't know, they literally have a 1:1 caped baldy called spirit animal, he control's animals, looks 1:1 with saitama
If I was charged with bringing Fight Man back into the lime light, I would write him as a reformed A-hole with super powers. I would also have him team up with the super power A-Holes and show them where their life is headed IF they don't shape up. He did it first, he suffered the consequences, let him show though results to others.
Videos like this are exactly why I'm a fan of yours. Great content. Great sponsor.
Fight Man isn't Marvel's One Punch Man. He's Zapp Brannigan if he was a superhero
Evan Dorkin (and friends) also wrote World’s Funnest, which is another one shot where Bat-Mite fights Mr. Mxy
It's always fascinating to hear and learn about these massively underrated/obscure pieces of comic history. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Drake.
I have been a Dorkin fan for soooo long and I somehow never knew this particular book existed. Thanks for that!
Nice video! The House of Fun deserves more flowers. Make sure you check out World's Funnest - best Mxy & Bat-Mite story ever written.
Oh trust me, Funnest is going to be touched on in my upcoming Mxy video and I made sure to include questions about it in my interview. 😉
I chuckled at the "been here the whole time gag"
I got into Dorkin when I worked at a comic shop in high school. I came across Hectic Planet on one of the spinner racks while doing inventory.
As a kid that was in to punk rock and ska, the cover of the second trade drew my attention.
I flipped though and got excited about the music references. The next paycheck I bought all of the trades.
He's been one of my favorite creators since.
Sadly it's been over 20 years since I read those books. I really need to pick up new copies.
Simpsons comics actually had a one punch mutt parody character(which was basically just an art picture of a buffed up poochie.)
What a unique character. This is the best video I’ve seen this week!!! Thanks for always shining a light on the lesser known and obscure side of comics!
Thank you! It's been a lot of fun to really learn more about comic history and share it with you guys.
I haven't heard of anything else by him, but when you mentioned Beasts of Burden, it was a blast from the past. I only read a few, but I genuinely loved them
He's like if Homelander and Saitama did the DragonBall fusion dance.
you're right. bro was spittin in that interview.
man fight man is getting his sidekicks killed more then batman.
I absolutely loved the Bill & Ted comics! I had the whole series. I do remember the original Fight-Man comic, but I can’t remember if I ever actually owned it or not.
Used to love Milk and Cheese and would say hello and buy something from Dorkin when he would appear at SPX, back in the day.
I may even have that Fight Man comic somewhere, as it looks so familiar. But I guess I was one of those rare collectors that still read comics back in the day.
Evan Dorkin rules, to this day a top 5 comic for me is his World’s Funniest one shot where Bat-Mite and Mr. Mxyzptlk, it’s basically a send up of every era of DC. It’s SO good. Will probably re-read it now haha
I think having smut in comics isn’t bad as long as there are other titles with good writing to balance it out. Sometimes you need dumb fun comics too. Albeit. This author was definitely a visionary. I don’t mind supporting him in the future
I am bit surprised some of his villains have not been used. Likely for comedy of a hero going "Who?" or filling out the ranks of a super villain team but it is something.
The Nazi orangutan has... That's it.
I was sold from "he fights, man!" Godlike.
If a building knocked Fightman out, he’s not much of an OPM analog.
We NEED a movie about this guy PRONTO!
The mix combination of the tick and zapp from futurama
1:47 Thanks for that ad. Good man. Darn interesting vid as well.
*Downloaded
If they did do a new storyline with him, why not have him fight Paul from Spider-Man, people would literally pay to see Paul get beat up,
NGL I never heard of this character before. So when I first saw the thumbnail, I assumed this was something Erik Larsen did before he went to Image. The face and general design of Fight Man is very Larsen in the face and proportions.
action girl was by sarah dyer not dryer, but its just cool to hear dorkin come up. I love that guy.
12:13 adding “dateless” to my vocab STAT
Honestly, I think Fight Man SHOULD come back. We have so many asshole “what if Superman was evil” dictator villain characters that an asshole character with superpowers that’s also just an unabashed loser would be a real breath of fresh air
Fight Man could join for a new Marvel vs Capcom roster
I loved the pilot episode for the Eltingville Club, and I used to see Milk in Cheese in Wizard magazine when I was younger, didnt know it was the same guy, always wanted to check out the Eltingville comic, guess I will now.
Oh my gosh is that DanExclaims! ???
😉
@@DanExclaims Oh my goodness it was you.
You’re literally one of my favorite creators and you’re one of the key reasons why i got into comics in the first place, basically i’m trying to say thanks.
@@alexanderlevi3I appreciate that! Please keep supporting your favorite books!
To be fair, we the audience, were also supposed to think Agent X could be Deadpool
Lmfao I have this issue, one of my favorite ones. Felt like Johnny Bravo and image comics.
10:50 Holy shit, unfathomably based interview
DAMN!!! Agent X, i haven't heard that name in years. I got the first issue from back in 2002. Art by Udon by the way
Another banger video by Comic Drake!
I initially hated the Fight-Man one-shot. I was utterly baffled by it, in fact. It made zero sense.
A little more than half way through is when I figured out the pages in my copy were in the wrong order.
Needless to say, it's far less confusing in the correct order.
Def gonna keep an eye on Dorkin’s future work
Agent X deserves new life.
Bro a plane went over my house right as Drake mentioned the plane in the out to 😂
Need to buy this now. Thanks for this video!
