It’s misfortune that one of the top five Westerns of the modern era was released at the height of the pandemic when theaters were closed. Tim Blake Nelson was masterful in the title role.
“Old Henry” is the best Western in decades; only “Unforgiven” (1992) and “Zandy’s Bride” (1974) can compare for intensity in the starring role. Not your typical horse opera. Tim Blake Nelson mastered this role in an unforgettable performance.
Both weirdo old heads that seem to like hazing your kid. That, or you didn't watch the film. Billy the Kid knew exactly what a life of being violent when you're angry, ESPECIALLY to your own flesh and blood, brought about. It's why he ran and hid. He wanted his son to learn that not being violent is the good and correct life. Only a fool uses the rod when it's a foal. They don't know better. They haven't been around long enough. Dumb af
It’s such a shame. I tried to get a hold of this movie on Amazon Prime, but there wasn’t even a copy to buy on that channel. In the end I had to buy a copy from America and have it sent across the pond to the UK. It wasn’t cheap, but it was well worth it. These smaller, independent movies get a raw deal as far as distribution goes. If this film was better advertised, better known, it would have been Oscar nominated for sure, along with its lead actor, Tim Blake Nelson, whose depths and skills were a sight to behold. Fans of Unforgiven, Hombre, Open Range and The Wild Bunch will be especially rewarded by the skill of the script writing in this shoestring classic. But any script is only as good as the performances that deliver it and there are no flaws to be found in any one of them. The direction is thoughtful, confidently paced (for a first time movie director) and thought provoking, the cinematography almost alchemical in the film’s ability to draw your eye to the right places at the right time, whilst juxtaposing the same scenery with itself to make it majestic in one moment and starkly baron the next, fitting the mood of each scene with precision. And the sparing use of a powerful, if understated, score just works to enhance the moment to moment emotion without the audience being conscious of the intercession. A small masterpiece, like a pocket sized Rembrandt, to take out and show to those special friends with an appreciative eye. You just know they’ll want their own copy once they’ve seen it. Which is all the praise a movie like this needs. I so look forward to more from this director, Potsy Ponciroli. An obscure name to conjure with. Destined to become a household name? If he maintains this calibre of work, for sure.
@@missmiss975 You weren't there when he shot those three federal grammar teachers in Jackson County, or when he dynamited the Rock Island & Pacific in '69 killing school masters and English professors...
This is a f****** great movie bucking great movie I wish they would had a little bit more action in it though and him not dying at the end I was kind of sad

why dont they play it in cinema again and show it on bigscreen rather than crap movies lately
Yeah, what a shame. But at least people knew this movie now
I'm glad they did not get a Liam Neeson, or Sam Elliott, or Kevin Costner type of actor to play the leading role. This guy is perfect casting.
I agree. No other actor could have pulled off a middle aged Billy the Kid. It's an instant classic and the best Western in years.
Tim Blake Nelson
I agree
Liam Newsom would of been solid too
Emilo was the best cast.
Best movie I have seen in years. $1.5 million budget? 15 actors? Amazing.
Tim Nelson is one of the greatest Southern actors of his generation. I've never seen a bad performance out of him.
All of his characters live, he is amazing!
They don't make good western anymore. This was truly welcome. Everybody who loves western must see.
This movie is straight Badass. The perfect movie. I loved every second of it.
"You're him" That scene gets me every time, it's fantastic.
There was all bad men killing was normal they all was deputized by someone then that person turned on them
Insane authenticity in his character. I don't see acting. I see _being_ and the truth of that character. Palpable. Visceral.
Billy the Kid will never die.
I thought I recognized him from Oh Brother Where Art Thou .
Good Actor . Highly Underrated .
We needed this movie, especially when it came out, and now. TBN is a legend, and this was as good as it gets.
I love it when talented "character" actors are, based on merit, given leading roles and excel in them!

Exactly...
