Wonderful interview ! Bibek-Da is a great son of India. We thank Providence that he survived his attack in 2004 and gave India and world a not just a glimpse but illummination of Indian Itihasa for Bharata Mata recover from centuries of physical and mental colonization.
As per Indian customs it is my expectation from the Host (Ms. Payel) that since the Guest (Mr. Debroy) is senior to her in age she would address him as Bibek-da. I guess western mind-set has eaten in to our cultural values and ethos.
@@poopsicklebumpkins Since Mr. Debroy is a Bengalee the cultural tradition of Bengal requires to address someone senior as a mark of respect, ....-Da (for male) and ....-Di (Female) whereas "Babu" is an Indian version of "Sir" - carries sort of a slavery connotation and "Ji" is used by/for Hindi-speaking people.
@@amardatta4471 babu is used for both respect, asslicking and endearment. Like felu babu, bratya babu and the term baba/ushona, respectively. It's an indian word that existed before them ingrejs so the western mindset does not really fit here. Felu da's clients wouldn't call him Felu da, unlike topesh or more properly topshe who very rightfully and intimately would. To them he would be prodosh babu or felu babu. And as this was happening in a awbangali prodesh, ji or babu should have sufficed. Khub bondhutto ba ghonishthota na hole babar boyoshi lokjoner thik 'da' bola jayna. Too cool.
