Congrats on finishing Corpse Party! This was one of the most iconic OG horror games and still a blast to catch up with. When I first played I didn't realize just how good the Naomi/Seiko subplot really was...
That was a wild ride... I feel like we learned a lot of lessons today, like treat your friends well and dont do random rituals. Never realized how truly important and gutting Seiko's whole story actually kind of is. This has been a fun trip down memory road! It was weirder than i remembered lol
This game stayed freaky to the end. It has this insane style of storytelling that feels very late 90's/early 2000's campy horror to me, where strange situations like spending an entire chapter looking for a bathroom are played straight, death scenes are horrifying but also so over the top that I can't help finding them a bit funny, and bizarre characters like Morishige with his gore fixation are introduced just to die and possibly advance the plot a bit. Interestingly Seiko was also a pretty strange character, but her and Naomi's storyline was probably the most genuinely emotional in the game. That final kiss in the dream is the moment that will stick with me the longest. I'm sure this is a very cold take, but Seiko deserved to win Naomi's heart. She loved Naomi so much she was going to give up and let her be with Satoshi. Plus she's fun to be around cause you never know what kind of weird stuff she's going to say. I can all too easily imagine they have a date planned and Satoshi calls at the last minute like "Hey, Naomi, sorry, can Yuka come with us? She'd be lonely otherwise". Then in the middle of walking around the zoo they have to change their whole route and go 30 minutes out of their way to find a bathroom for Yuka. Anyway thanks for going through this game with us! It was really fun to watch and just marvel at. Even the wrong ends were always creative in their cruelty, so they felt pretty satisfying to unlock.
I was a little surprised to see people in the chat say that "oh it's different from the anime" when I assumed that it was already public knowledge that the Corpse Party anime is very poorly adapted hahaha In any case, we will have to wait for the sequel (Book of Shadows) which, although it focuses on a different type of game than this one, is still very good without a doubt.

Congrats on finishing Corpse Party! This was one of the most iconic OG horror games and still a blast to catch up with.
When I first played I didn't realize just how good the Naomi/Seiko subplot really was...
That was a wild ride... I feel like we learned a lot of lessons today, like treat your friends well and dont do random rituals. But the most important lesson of all is probably to go to the bathroom when you can, bc holding it in isnt good.

Never realized how truly important and gutting Seiko's whole story actually kind of is. This has been a fun trip down memory road! It was weirder than i remembered lol
This game stayed freaky to the end. It has this insane style of storytelling that feels very late 90's/early 2000's campy horror to me, where strange situations like spending an entire chapter looking for a bathroom are played straight, death scenes are horrifying but also so over the top that I can't help finding them a bit funny, and bizarre characters like Morishige with his gore fixation are introduced just to die and possibly advance the plot a bit. Interestingly Seiko was also a pretty strange character, but her and Naomi's storyline was probably the most genuinely emotional in the game. That final kiss in the dream is the moment that will stick with me the longest. I'm sure this is a very cold take, but Seiko deserved to win Naomi's heart. She loved Naomi so much she was going to give up and let her be with Satoshi. Plus she's fun to be around cause you never know what kind of weird stuff she's going to say. And Seiko is fully focused on Naomi, whereas Satoshi is so focused on his sister. Naomi will always have to compete with Yuka. I can all too easily imagine they have a date planned and Satoshi calls at the last minute like "Hey, Naomi, sorry, can Yuka come with us? She'd be lonely otherwise". Then in the middle of walking around the zoo they have to change their whole route and go 30 minutes out of their way to find a bathroom for Yuka.
Anyway thanks for going through this game with us! It was really fun to watch and just marvel at. Even the wrong ends were always creative in their cruelty, so they felt pretty satisfying to unlock.
I was a little surprised to see people in the chat say that "oh it's different from the anime" when I assumed that it was already public knowledge that the Corpse Party anime is very poorly adapted hahaha
In any case, we will have to wait for the sequel (Book of Shadows) which, although it focuses on a different type of game than this one, is still very good without a doubt.
