A quick question here. @14:18 when you change the preferred value on VSR101 for 172.16.2.1 to be 100. Will the next hop for 10.99.0.0/24 on VSR102 become 172.16.2.1 too?
VSR102 will not alter its best path based upon a change to VSR101's weight / preferred value because that value is only locally significant. In this specific case, though not shown, VSR102 will just keep the eBGP link 172.16.4.1 as the best path.
Great video. I was confused. So to make it short: With Wight you are deciding what next hop you will take, while local pref. you are manipulating traffic to choose R1 instead R2 for exit traffic ( for all traffic or per prefix).
Hi Parvin, I'm afraid I finished making this series a couple of years ago because I moved on to looking at network automation and IPv6 more for my job. Is there anything specific that you're stuck with or is the query more to see those elements you mention in action?
Great was waiting for next BGP video!!!

Thank you for making the video Joe.
First BGP In Depth of 2017. Weight, Local Preference, more stick men and a Spinal Tap reference.
Great vid. Clear and informal.

Apols to the haters, I think this one is pretty good.
interesting accent , sometimes table-tennis sometimes lawn-tennis
Good video but I can't get used to these English calling it rooting and rooters. Dude, it's ROUTING and ROUTERS. Cheerio.
Egads old bean, one seems to have come down with a case of the caps locks. How ghastly.
