One of the things JB remarked on which this video makes apparent is that the 56 NASCAR is surprisingly grippy in high speed corners. An F1 car it ain't but it's not as much of a slouch (other than slow corners) as one would have expected. And as someone who's not a NASCAR fan, this has been weirdly fun to follow.
It's actually far quicker through the slow corners than anyone was expecting, the thing has a monstrous amount of mechanical grip and more than enough torque to outrun anything but the top prototypes off the slower corners. There's a hilarious clip of one of the LMP2s following it out of the final chicane, pulling out to pass it, then almost immediately slipping back behind it because it was starting to pull away the second the P2 left the massive hole it punches in the air.
The Camaro gapped the GTEs significantly, didn't die and put on a really surprising show for everyone; I really hope this doesn't remain a one-off for the combined anniversary and NASCAR and the FIA at least decides to allow a few teams to compete in their own class (Touring Stocks?) at future Le Mans events, if not integrating them into the WEC somehow

Ferrari V8’s on the other hand are flat plane, meaning all pistons fire 180 degrees of each other on the crank, and thus gives a flat cross section on the crank shaft, and makes the signature howl/scream we’re used to from their offerings.
You're thinking position of the pistons physically from each other. This is in regards to the rotation of the crank (which is a madness of maths and meyham to wrap my head around given V style engines). The degrees in rotation I'm refering to is in relation to the crank itself, not the physical position of the pistons. Where as in a flat plane, every 180 degrees of rotation on the crank is when a piston fires.
I listened to this in my recording studio on very high quality monitor speakers. The Garage 56 car covered a deeper low-frequency sound spectrum that can really be felt. It also seems to be a lower-revving engine, which makes sense due to the old-school, pushrod Chevy V-8 design. The Caddy V-Series.R also had nice low-frequency content, but it was also smoother sounding due to the higher revs of the DOHC V-8 they were using. Both both cars sounded great!
the g56 car is lower revving but not because of pushrods, gen6 cup cars used to churn out over 9.5k rpms and they had pushrods. these new gen cars are just inherently limited in rpms due to current nascar regulations
The engine sound is nearly identical, however the cadillac is runs about 300 rpm faster into the first corner (raising the pitch), and its exhaust configuration is different. The Cadillac's accentuates the higher partials and the Camaro's the route pitch and first partial.

I've been to the practice day at Le Mans and the Camaro is like 3 times louder than any other car in the race
Yeah, I've seen other people say that too. It's probably because of the exhaust the Next-gen has
Something about American cars and how a V8 roars is intense, regardless if it's the Cup Car or prototype.
V8's are insane
they sound the same but the cadilac sounds like it revs faster, but its not higher pitched, idk how to explain it
True
I wonder how much exhaust routing has to do with it... the camaro has shorter side pipes.. i assume the Cadillac has longer tail pipes
Probably
Definitely not identical! But identically AWESOME
Definitely
The exhaust is the difference. Tubing size and bends. And of course displacement size of the motor. Bigger the cubes the more bass in the sound.
Agreed
the cup car is really beefy sounding just like the actual cup cars are. the shifts are okay sounding but i bet the downshifts sound awesome. the Cadillac is less beefy but they are definitely really similar.
True
God damn that Cadillac sounds good!
I know right
The Caddy sounds more refined to me. I prefer it yet the Camaro sounds beautiful as well.
Yeah, definitely
chill with the cuts
I tried my best
Why did you cut the clips so soon after they passed? That's like 50% of the car sound.
I didn't want the clips I used to be too long. Plus, I was only focusing on the flyby of the cars when they passed by.
I did my best with this one, ok
The Caddy reminds me of the Car of Tomorrow in terms of sound,
Same
The Cadillac is probably what the Gen 8 Cup cars are gonna sound like.
Predicting the future?
Matter of time NASCAR bring race to LeMans coming years! Same type of Northern California or Road Atlanta
Hope so
Very very close, lots of engine tech from the Caddy being used I bet.
I guess so
Pretty damn close, although I think the NASCAR car has a throatier tone, otherwise they are very similar.
Yeah, the Garage 56 has that Growl type sound
@@cito1101 yup
The NASCAR car sounds crisper than the Caddy. I'm sure it has to do with the exhaust routing, the prototypes intricately design the exhaust system around the confined bodywork while NASCAR dumps it out as quick as possible. But they both sound sexy as hell, love me a throaty V8 exhaust note
Yeah, I know
Similar as they are based on the same initial LS design. However you can hear the clear difference in cubic inches. The Camaro Engine is making way more sauce.
Camaro is deeper than the Cadillac in terms of sound
@@cito1101 As it should. The Cadillac V8 is DOHC and 5.5L (335 cubic inches) producing around 650hp, whereas the Camaro is using a specially built R07 (358 Cubic inches to 400 cubic inches) pushrod V8 capable of around 1000hp.
@@josephmatuszak3855actually the gtp/lmdh/hypercars make "about" 670 hp measured at the axles (they have tq sensors on the axles so the series monitors real time power output). They make "about" 750 hp at crank bop dependent
There hasn't been a new LS design in many years lol
Flat plane vs. cross plane crankshafts?
Huh??
@@cito1101 The two different configurations of crankshafts will put out exhaust pulses at different frequencies, therefore two V8 engines with same displacement ( bore and stroke), will sound different exhaust-wise.
I'm getting major Iroc vibes from this
Wow!!
Honestly the cadillac sounds like a 90s cup car pre morgan mcclure x pipe.
Interesting
The caddy sounds like the 5 gen stock cars of yester year
Or the NASCAR gen 6 cars of 2021
They both sound like cup cars… different exhaust notes but very similar
Agreed
They sound close, the Cadillac resembles the COT era cup car, with a touch of the nextgen
Agreed
Which category does the Nascar fall in to? Pretty excited for this!
Not sure. Just Garage 56
I could be mistaken, but I believe I read the Garage56 entry is in the "Innovative Class". Just running against itself, without competition or a trophy. IMHO, it would be terrific if it finishes without major breakdowns, and completes a respectable number of laps. I believe Garage56 has the backing of Rick Hendricks. If this entry does well and generates enough interest from other Nascar teams, maybe just maybe the endurance/Nascar vehicles could have their own class in endurance racing! One can only dream.... Camaros - Mustangs - Camrys running LeMans along side Corvettes, Ferraris, Porsches, Aston Martins!

unbelievable how muc high speed grip this car has
I know right
The cup car has a bit more of a raspy deeper sound to it while the Cadillac has a more refined sound
True
Wooooow is this new to you never heard the C5r or C6r , panoz , Riley and Scott lol
Haha. I like to try things a bit different
@@cito1101 the corvette C6R is much louder
@@cito1101 everyone watching this car didn’t even support the corvette on there class win it can 39th out of 40 finishers . But I’m glad this sound it back can’t wait for mustang next year
Sounds very similar but at diffeny rev ranges, the v series sounds higher reving and the 56 sounds more torquey with a lower rev range.
Agreed
