This entire story sounds fishy. What school pays with cash to a business? And also, who uses a school bus service to transport children from Illinois to Florida? So getting airfare wasn't an option? The school could've easily called a travel agency or the airlines to get discounted rates. They're using the city of Dolton, black children, and the holidays to yank on the heart strings to get handouts.
What is the biggest fish? No parents sat and waited for them to get on the bus. There should have been two cars with phone numbers at the wait. I grew up in the 80s far west of Chicago and some parents would follow the bus to away games during blizzards just in case.

Slow down and think. How does any educator suddenly stop using well known procedures when it comes to transportation? As someone familiar with the subject I know something is off here. Hopefully it’s just plain irresponsible behavior magically involving all of the educators who knew of the transportation plans and not an attempt to steal money from a school by one of those educators. When you rent a bus you always check the company you dealing with and I think it would have been cheaper to fly! Also giving the team alot more time to practice, 17hrs on the road is not easy.
A flight may have been cheaper but not as fun. As a former cheerleader and former band member, here's nothing like those bus trips for camaraderie. You do a lot of cheering, playing and psyching yourself up for the event. You can't act out on a plane the same way. It's an adventure. I don't know if they had a lot of equipment, but that's easier to deal with on a bus. With just cheerleaders, that's probably only pom poms and megaphones, so it might not have been a big deal.
Never pay cash for a major business transaction. You should always pay by credit card because credit card companies usually offer buyers protection, which enables you to get a full refund if the vendor doesn't honor his contract.

Also, the business address listed is a house in a residential neighborhood that looks like it’s not being lived in because the grass is about 3 ft tall. It appears that the insurance on the bus was cancelled in Jan 2024, maybe due to the 4 violations. I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near this LLC but I do hope the money is recovered and the girls are able to cheer. ✌️
As a former competitive cheer coach, my heart breaks for these girls and their coach. I hope every dollar is recouped and the girls bring home the GOLD!
Thankfully there was thought to have responsible adults accompanying them - this could've turned out so much worse than the mid-outcome. I hope that any upcoming trips include extensive research on any transportation entities to be contracted.
