First of all, Martini started vs IU because they probably felt he had the best chance to guard Reneau (not sure about that spelling), who is their best player. I agree with you guys that the staff hasn't figured out how to put these guys in position to succeed. I've been the biggest Pike supporter. He's an amazing coach in so many ways. Typically, he's a really good game coach. His decisions on rotations, out of timeout/halftime adjustments are usually spot-on. That was past years. He looks totally lost with which buttons to push this year. Hayes should be a gunner, yet he's clearly indecisive and therefore missing more than he should. Martini is a complete head-scratcher. His strengths are exactly what this team needs: knocking down 3 balls, smart defense and tough rebounding...somehow, though, he is clueless. This staff hasn't defined roles. Trying to force this team to play straight man is a mistake. Lean into your depth and length and press full court and play some 1-3-1 half court trap. This will allow Dylan and Ace to play in more space. They could play Grant and Dortch who are really good athletes. Somerville is a stud on offense and needs to be prioritized when he is in the game. This team has the wrong player taking the wrong shot way too often. Dylan, Ace, Lathan, PJ/Acuff/Martini spotting up from 3 should be the order of shot-making. Once the court opens up JWill and Derkack can get to the rim and finish more efficiently. Roster construction is not the problem. Roster usage is. Pike has to figure it out, quick!
Thank goodness for Rutgers Rivals. I was checking out On3 & those clowns over there, as of this morning, still don't show that Weber & O'Neill has committed to Rutgers. We saw why Ace's ceiling is insanely high. The transfers should give their NIL money back! Williams turning the ball over & then falling down after the turnover, sums up this team. The defensive effort is downright awful. Even with the lack of offensive sets, shouldn't these guys have some basic understanding of the game? Cut to the basket, set more screens, DO SOMETHING!
Let our Rutgers Fab 5 Cook, Coach Pike! I've seen enough of our no wing defenders! Givin' up uncontested 3s is driving me crazzy! Put these athletic freshmen in: 6'9" Bryce Dortch (top 150 in class of 2024 & composite 4 Star/247 Sports 3 Star; #39 among forwards nationally in his class!) and 6'7" Dylan Grant 247Sports 3 Star & Rivals #113 National; #30 Nationally for his position ) .....wtf. They're long ,wing spans are crazy with crazy bounce & athleticism to help close out on those damn 3 balls Indiana was hittin' tonite and at previous games! Hayes/Martini/Derkack ain't doin' crap so make these damn changes NOW especially for defensive purposes, Coach Pike! Dortch has been compared to Caleb on D so let him cook! th-cam.com/users/shortsopp7_t_wqUU ; Dylan Grant : th-cam.com/video/BQhFpI96EVY/w-d-xo.html ; th-cam.com/video/fMj8JenJVR4/w-d-xo.html; We have nothin' else to lose....Both can defend, can shoot, can get to the rack and can disrupt on defense! Let the Frosh loose!
Elad is just what Rutgers needs now in a starting safety: experienced, fast and a hitter. He could pay dividends immediately. Now, we need another just like him.
The bad trend of being outrebounded/problem defending the 3 continues. Can't Dortch or Grant be inserted to provide rebounding and defense? When do you insert those guys or is Pike too (overly)committed to the transfers?
Remember when you guys started thinking this university was turning into a basketball school? You might want to re-think that if you haven't already. 😏
@Django19 football is where the money is any school rather be a football school. If schaino never left the 1st time we definitely be a football school
What's wrong with this team Is the coaching staff! You have to run an offense that's compatible with the players you have. Either the next AD should force him to bring in an offensive assistant or he should be fired
What's the deal with Dylan Grant and Bryce Dortch? Is Dortch officially red-shirted or is he just not good? Not 1 minute. Dylan grant played decent defense in a few appearances, why no minutes?
Craig, You're best delivery of an opinion to date! Well done.

Brutally honest. Agree with all you guys said. Great podcast

He will never get another 5 star player again. Recruiters will use that against him. He has no idea what’s coming.
Emmanuel is a gentle giant. And he's all upper body lol.

Why not play grant and Dortch at this point
Richie, you're too funny today! I'll contribute some shekels! LOL.

I just saw that George Fitzpatrick (OT) from Ohio State hit the portal. Attended high school with the Zilinskas's brothers???

What do you guys think happened to PJ Hayes? All we heard about from pre season practice was he was on fire, nailing 3s.
Some guys are great practice players, then disappear when the real lights come on..
Poor coaching leading to a lack of confidence
@@paulmcneil9762 poor coaching, haven’t tried to get him open at all.
Rutgers Basketball is an absolute disaster.

Rather be a basketball school than a football school. Football's for brutes and kids don't play it anymore. CTE is wild.

Pikel needs to go whether he wants to or not.
This is a RUTGERS podcast but yet not a single person is wearing RUTGERS gear...smh
Yeah, the hoops team may have something to do with that.
Mike wears Rutgers gear for he majority of these videos but don't let that stop you from complaining
