I remember the couple at the end, they lived in Avalon NSW. This song epitomises what it was like growing up the the 70’s, not a care in the world, no one to impress, just the simple things were enough to keep you happy. It was a great era. Great song.
Australias premier singer song writer
But as usual Australia under values it’s natural treasures.
I would've thought Paul Kelly has that mantle. But Richard Clapton's quality is as good as Kelly's. Both have a way of taking you into the story
@@Chapps1941 Paul Kelly? Please dude!
We lived in a golden country, with golden beaches, at a golden, carefree time. Now we live in gilded cages, with all mod cons, yet afraid of what time will bring. I cry for those times, but more for younger people, who never knew those times and, in all probability, will never know such times. As stewards, we failed in our duty.
No mate, the government failed in its duty to protect that lifestyle...
@@kenlane6655 Governments?!
The clip, the melody, the ocean and the voice of Richard Clapton, it just take you back and wishing it could be the same again but times have gone by.
Thank you Richard ❤️🙏🏼
Life was so much better then...
The 1977 movie "Highway One" was about the surfer lifestyle- filmed like a documentary, focusing on some young guys travelling around surfing. It all seems very realistic until part way through the movie you realise that nobody, cool surfer dudes or herb-tea sipping surfer ladies auxiliary, has anything as inconvenient as rent, bills, jobs, study, or parents to interrupt the fun. I'd love to watch Highway One again, but have never seen any way to acquire a copy, legally or otherwise.
Australia was a different place once.
I saw that movie at the Opera house in the late 70s and have been looking for a copy as well. There was a scene in there at the hall at Broken Head with a heap of mates from Byron Bay watching the movie. A classic Aussie surf movie!
@@allanbrown2099yeh , I seen it with a group of surfing mates at the Opera House as well , I remember the warm up movie ,of Rick Clapton singing and the song by Heart Magic Man was played before the movie started ..
We could see alot of ourselves in this movie and some if the places they traveled and surfed at..I'dike to see this movie again oneday
When I hear this song it instantly takes me back to better times!
That’s what my dad tells me, reminds him of his youth!

This song just takes me back to the fun years. Life was so much simpler the.
haunting tune for sure
Reminds me of an easier time. Took my kids on a family break including Bryon bay in 2019. Not the place I remember as a kid in the late 70s :(
and to think, growing up on the gold coast ,we did the same back then...shame time has a way of *ucking the better things in life...got to be grateful for at least being born when i was...
In a place that was cruel, kind, but now impersonal and impervious.
Great song artist❤😊
This song just makes one feel total peace with our present world.
Love this song...the lyric, the merlody and Richards unique voice. Must try and use it in a movie one day
It was used in the Highway One movie released in 1977.
I've ridden horses on this stretch of sand many times ..Growing up in Byron Bay.💞🌼☀️
Dammit - the only thing on TH-cam that makes me cry, and now I've watched it again...
Same here. Takes me right back
@@denysemcalister3390 Something to do with adolescent dreams of freedom. For me, anyway.
@@TheMDJ2000 I agree with you. For me, the video makes me remember the feeling of having my whole life ahead of me. Not a care in the world.
Top 10 musician easily everything he does is so polished.
Love the song and scenery. A million thanks TH-cam!!! XXX
Brings me back to the days camping at Byron bay, not the same anymore!
Filmed at Byron Bay - back in the day (1976).
That movie needs a dvd re-issue!
The Coolest song
Back in the day when it was Byron Bay, and not 'Byron Pay', and you could , a) ride a horrse along the beaches there without breaking a zillion stupid regulations.
b) ride a horse without a helmet.
c)ride a horse bareback
d)surf alone on a perfect break without a gazillion idiots around you
its called progress man

I was born in 1977 and and I am very happy I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s those were such care free times because I had such good friends and memories of those decades! But not the early 2000’s that is when it all came to an end! And I sure do miss the good old days!😢😭😔Austalia now has the same thing in common as North Korea we’re having any kind of harmless fun is a crime!😛🤪😡😔😭

reading the comments, is so funny..nothing has really changed..you can still do the same things that are in this flick. You just have to go where there is no one around and I could name 100 all relatively close to Byron..
You must be on drugs 😂
