Really like the frame, better than the ones I have done in the past. Two thoughts though. First, when sanding, avoid doing the joint edges (where the 45 degree joints meet). If your saw cuts a true 45, then any sanding will change that, making a rough looking joint. Second, when you cut out the notch/groove for the mirror to sit in, I would do a double cut, rather than have to do the chisel work. It's cleaner and quicker. I know this is not designer piece, but well finished will look good in most settings. Keep up the good work!
Also, I would add a few dabs of clear silicone caulking on each edge, just to secure the mirror, unless your cuts are so precise that they mirror cannot shift in the frame.
@@bruceduncan3646 Thank you. Doing research and I was wondering why people are not adding any kind of cushioning. Also, what to do if the mirror brakes. The way this is designed, it will be tough to replace the mirror.
@@AppalachianHomeCo You will need a router and a rabbet bit that corresponds to the shank width of that router. It will make quick work of cutting that groove in seconds.
Nice job! Fyi the method you used to chisel the rest of the groove would be easier if you lower the table saw blade to the thickness of the mirror and run the board through it would have a much cleaner cut and alot faster.
Thank you Christy for showing me how to do that I was on a customer's home that I did a complete renovation and she had asked me to make one for her bathroom and your video was the 1st 1 that came up and I am so happy that you showed me I hope you have a beautiful day in a happy New Year
They make special clips that you can drive into the side of the framing to hold the mirror. This way you don’t have to double up the wood. Unless you want that thick frame look.
I was unable to access the web site link you left for the plans, also what hook appliance do you use in the back to support the weight of the mirror and frame. Thank you
Currently doing my bathroom. Framing a mirror similar size form part of this project. as the mirror got some blemishes around the edges. I were not very sure how to proceed. Tried getting frame moulding but none available for a mirror of that size at local DIY. Thanks to this video , I know how to proceed frame the mirror now.. 5*.
Hi I'm new to woodworking and I found your project, any brands of tools that you recommend or any specific tools for someone like myself that is starting out besides the ones used in this video. Any input is greatly appreciated thank you
Would you PLEASE roll your thumb under the palm of your hand when cutting a miter. I was given that hint by a wood working teacher that had half a thumb. You could have saved time by using the the fence and setting the saw blade shallow to clean the scrap out of the rabbet I’d glue the joints so they don’t move with humidity Finished project looked fantastic
Can the local hardware store cut them for you? Not sure where you live but Home Depot has cutting stations in the store; you can also ask someone to help you cut the wood.
Great video. I am fine on the construction components. I just can't find where to get a builder-source mirror. I saw the mirror came from another bathroom mirror. Does anyone have a lead on a cost effective mirror?
This is exactly what I needed! Unfortunately when I tried the link to download the plans it didn’t work, I think I might be able to figure it out from here though :) Thank you so much for this detailed video!
Hello, I have a 35.75” X 48.5” mirror. How do I know what size frames to use as I bought two 1X4X8ft and 1X4X10ft boards and made two-49 inch boards and two-37 inch boards which were too small. Any suggestions?
Hi! I would suggest doing the top and bottom frames 40.75” and side frames 53.5” long. That way your mirror will sit inside the frames 1” all the way around. Hope that makes sense!
Nice project. I think you could have simplified the cutting of the groove for the mirror by running 2 passes on your table saw, instead of cutting the groove & chiseling.
@@AppalachianHomeCo why not cutting the groove more towards the middle and just sliding the mirror glass in the grooves, then fixing the 4 sides with the glass already in? i think this would be the fastest way. the mirror glass would stay secured within the grooves themselves and you wouldn't need to add extra wood on the back to secure the glass.
@@Calinn86 i had the same thought but you would have to do that before nailing and painting it all together. Nailing could break the mirror and you would then have to tape off the mirror to paint or stain it.
Beautiful job. I would have used 2" trim and color it expresso. Why didn't you used a little silicone sealant?? I'm making one for my bathroom with 1.5" trim. Will use a router for the mirror and go about 1/2" deep on the edges. Wish me luck. I also need to use hinges as its for a medicine cabinet.
Thank you! This really helped make a frame. Just waiting on polyurethane to dry. My framed mirror is going into a bathroom should I use silicone around the frame?
Hi! If you do not have those tools you can use a hand miter saw which is pretty inexpensive and good enough to make the frame pieces. I’ll see if I can find a good hand saw and do a video!
Come on now, you can get a miter saw new for like $300 and probably used on FB marketplace for half that. This video is for people who do woodworking. I would bet that 99% of people who have an inclination to do something like this have the tools they need to do it so it would be ridiculous for her to spend time on that in the video. And I must add, these videos she makes are free. You’re not paying for them to be so demanding of the product she put out for your benefit for no reward is ridiculous. She was very gracious in her response to you. In the future, one should pose the question “hey, I was just curious, can this be done without power tools?”

Any reason for using chizel instead of using table saw?? just curious
Hi! Honestly at the time my husband was using the saw for something else lol!
I do not see any link in the description box?
Great video and a very nice mirror.

That red stain on your table freaked me out when you were using the chisel!!

Where didnu buy your mirror piece to install in your wood frame?
Hi. This mirror came from a wall bathroom mirror that had no frame that we already had. 👍🏻
nice work but I have a simple question.. Where did the dust go when you was sanding??
Everywhere! 😄I try to sand outside or in the garage most days and clean up with a shop vac.👍🏻
I was gonna ask if she sanded cause I missed it! Her reply to you is my answer. I'll pay attention next time
