  • We bought the Alpicool T50 12 volt compressor refrigerator and put it through the test of a month long, bumpy road trip. Did this fridge work out ok? Is it noisy? Does it run the battery down? Work on solar power? Is it any good or is it a piece of junk? If you're thinking about getting one for your RV then you should check out what we have to say about it.

    That was one of the most beneficial 12-volt refrigerator reviews I've ever heard there were several points that I learn something. I had questions about Duel Zone you explain the on this particular unit non-regulated power supply. The alphacool information. I think the number one thing I learned is you paid for it you're not looking for an endorsement or the next free deal and you will review it in the future accurately

      I still wonder if the regulated 12v feed comment was based on an mppt controller and a larger charging system. I only say this because the most will raise voltage to the batteries at times. I know its 12 or 24v but if its switched then it may not like 18- 20 volts in a 12 volt setting. I say this considering a direct battery connection while solar panels are collecting and the most controller is boosting to 18 ish volts. Thats the only thing I could think of that would warrant their comment on the 2 channels he referenced.

    I run 160 watts solar & two 6volt Costco batteries. I Have an old norcold 45 qt 12 volt single zone unit. I Only use it as a freezer set at 6 deg F. Freeze water bottles over night and rotate them in my high quality cooler, this keeps as a refrigerator. I think it’s continuous and could go for? At least A long time. Frozen meat, frozen vegetables, and don’t forget ice cream. It pushes at least 10-14 days for two people.

      Oh my original C20 unit does a fantastic job keeping my beer cold!! Mine is vy quiet. Oh no piston. Now they use a scroll compressor that uses 2 plates with.one rotating over the other to capture and compress the refrigerant as it gets squeezed thru the scroll circular-like vanes. They are more robust, uses fewer parts.

    I bought the same one. I love my ice. I bought deep large ice trays the correct fit on amazon. It actually froze them in Florida. I do like it. I hope it lasts. On the noise if they are plugging it into an extension cord that is the wrong size it will make a lot of noise. Good luck with yours. I hope you do another review after you had it for a while. I don't plug mine in right after I tote it since it is tilted. It probably doesn't matter but it makes me feel better. lol I do have a hard time with the manual settings. So I just use my phone. It is simple that way. I am using 200 watt with 100Ah battery no problem. Thanks for your input and showing me the inside. I was wondering about it. Thank you for the idea of the bubble wrap on the lid also. I will use that. Woo hoo on fresh veggies, gotta keep momma happy!

      I have an icemaker separate from my refrigerator. The directions on that say to let it settle if it's been moved around before running it. Not sure why but it sounds like the motion could upset or aerate the coolant perhaps? Is there an AC tech in the house?

    • @ruabadkitty
      @ruabadkitty 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richarddaugherty8583 I was using the same concept as a house fridge. If you tilt it too far you are supposed to let the compressor oil settle before you plug it in again. I don't know what degree of a tilt but I know you are supposed to do it. Do you have one of those counter top ice makers? If so do they work well? I would think they would use too much juice.

    • @richarddaugherty8583
      @richarddaugherty8583 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ruabadkitty I looked one up on Amazon and it says the draw is 120 watts. That's not too bad, really. The question how much is too much is relative to the quality and quantity of your power supply and how many things you need to run. I just got done building a totally portable DIY 400 watt solar generator, but it wasn't cheap, at least up front. The cost over the life of the unit is going to be darn cheap but the batteries are the big investment. I went with 2 Battle Born 100 amp/hour LiFePo4 batteries wired in parallel for a total capacity of 200 amp/hours. For me that's a lot because I only need to run my ham radio stations, some fans, a laptop, charge my devices, stuff like that. All that stuff is 12 volt. The system has a 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter to run AC stuff. I think I could run that refrigerator and an ice maker with no problems. YMMV! Here's a link to the system I built in case you're interested. It was definitely a project! drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Fbuo8TENelmmndBXc4w37FZsMWjWY8Uz?usp=sharing

    We bought a 54 quart compressor fridge/freezer single zone with Bluetooth. We use it in our 5th wheel as a fridge to keep all of our drinks in and to chill any food that we buy at the grocery store before adding it to our big 12 cu.ft. absorption refrigerator. This keeps the traffic in and out of the big fridge down to meal times. When the temps outside go above 90 degrees absorption refrigerators have to work hard to stay really cold. We love our little compressor fridge and so fr it’s great. We’ve had it running 24/7 for three weeks now and have had no issues.

    Great video, clear and concise. I think the point about regulated 12 volt supply needs clarification. Some refridgerators will stop working if the supply pressure drops below 12 volts. A regulated 12volt supply from your lithium power station will maintain this voltage regardless of state of charge in the power station battery, so that your fridge will continue to work.

    I'm glad you found out why your portable pack was having an issue. Some fridges you lower the limit, some newer power packs, you can extend the hours that the pack runs on low voltage. Either way, you can run the fridge. Some power packs, like the smaller Jackery's, cut out due to the low voltage setting, and a lack of an extended low voltage timer., which isn't really the power packs fault.

      We got stuck once in the middle of nowhere (where we always are) due to a cheap Walmart refrigerator that I forgot to unplug (I'm sure it must have been Linda's fault, but I couldn't prove it). The only thing that saved us was the battery out of the ATV which only had enough power to crank the engine a couple of times very slowly, but it caught! Pure luck. Ever since then I've always carried a lithium car starter. Yes, it's good that the battery protection is built in on this one.

    Great video! I have the same one. Love the Bluetooth. Did a cross country 3,600+ miles trip with my Alpicool (freezer, single mode). Needed to keep some meat frozen. I stayed in hotels overnight and didn't want to take the freezer in/out the hotel. I used an AUX battery in a battery box overnight. One night, it clicked off by morning (F1 fault on display). I charge the AUX battery with a 3A 12v charger + running the freezer off that battery while day-driving. Bad move! I wasn't able to keep the AUX battery charged up AND run the freezer over night at the same time. Solution (night two-three): ended up running the freezer on a separate power socket and charge the AUX battery separately during the day while driving. Then, at night swap over to AUX battery. Worked perfectly. The final problem I had (my fault). I had the cutoff set on 12.0 volts. I now have it set on 9.0 volts and purchased a Dakota Lithium 54 aH (691 Wh) battery...zero issues running all night. Made some mistakes, but figured it all out. When not on the road....I use it on the back patio. Thanks for doing a video on this unit!

    * Average (L) bag of Ice @ $4+
    X 5 (per trip used)
    = $20 (per trip)
    *10 trips (average according to AAA) people take per year.
    = $200 saved per year.
    * Pays for itself in less than 2 years. Keeps on saving you from that point on. Every trip.
    * Besides the gas you'd use going to get ice.
    * No draining of water & soggy foods.

I new there is a way to power it longer from a non-regulated power station since the vehicle is not regulated. Regular 3 cubic foot(90qt) chest freezer, about $150 to $200.
    Plug in Thermostat about $30. to $40.
    Inverter if you're running 12 volt system about $40.
    Total for 90qt freezer you can set with thermostat to refrigerator temps $220 to $280!
    Plug the freezer into the thermostat, plug the thermostat into your power, now set your temperature to what you want! Save money and get a lot more size.

    I bought this same model in March and was using it every day, worked great. Then a few weeks ago, it died out of the blue when plugged into AC power. Too bad, it worked great and is the smallest dual zone option but doesn't seem reliable. Oh and re; unregulated output, I think if you ran it a bit longer you'd see it would stop working around 50-60%, even with the low voltage cutoff set at it's lowest level.

      @@todd.parker, I hope it works out better. I was thinking of the Dometic, but it's also made in China, as is the American Norcold, we can't get away from that.
