    Oh man, that show was so popular in Russia back in the nineties. I loved it as a kid. Hulk Hogan to us was "That guy from "Thunder in Paradise" with white moustache. And he's also a wrestler or something". Maybe it even was the main reason why we got WCW on our TV around '98-99.

      Also because at the start he was respectful to others. When he did the Star Trek: Voyager crossover he didn't turn up being The Rock the biggest star of SmackDOWN but respected everyone else and go on with what he was told. A couple of years later when they were looking for a big dude to be The Scorpion King in 'The Mummy 2' he got the gig because of his attitude on Voyager, basically someone said get him as he isn't a diva and the rest in history.
      Talking of diva's Lita took the opposite approach and she was dropped from the 'Voyager' episode after one day and apparently screamed at by Vince for pissing off people at UPN.

    "...Shot around Mania 9."
    Hulk always claimed it a rogue JetSki gave him a black eye.
    Wait a second, filming for this show began in April 1993 and Wrestlemania IX was on 4 April 1993. I'll be damned. Now I have to wonder was Hogan practicing/watching other JetSki to prepare for the role or did him come up with the JetSki story because he filming Thunder in Paradise right after Mania?

    • @maxdecphoenix
      @maxdecphoenix 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      filming for the series was in 1993, filming for the film (which was retconned as the first two 'episodes' of the series) was completed around Apr 1992 .
      Basically someone pitched Hogan an idea for a movie in late 91 or very early 92, he took it, they filmed in Spring 1992. That was 'Thunder in Paradise'. At some point after wrapping the 'film', but before it's official StraightToVideo release, someone pitched doing a t.v. series, and that was filmed at Disney sometime in mid 1993. The 'film' was then released in Sept. 1993, a year and a half after filming. 6 months later, the 'film' was then labeled as the first two episodes of the series, which had it's first official broadcast as a two-parter in March 1994. Four other episodes in the first season were then spun-off as two 'stand alone' sequels to Thunder in Paradise, and released STV as well.

  • @RoyStantz
    @RoyStantz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I used to watch this on ITV in 1995.
    Two more things of note:
    First, the New Generation Project Podcast pointed out when they reviewed this pilot movie, Carol Alt, who played Kelly, had a weird quasi-New York/Boston accent in both that and the first half of the show's run (including the second movie a.k.a. "Sealed with a Kismet")
    Eventually, she dropped said weirdo accent for her regular voice in the second half of the show's run, which included the third movie a.k.a. "Deadly Lessons".
    Second, there was never really much in the way of actual threat or peril during any of Spence and Bru's adventures.
    For example, oh, it's Tuesday: Jessica's been kidnapped and we've got to save her; that's cool, as long as we get it wrapped up before the end of Wednesday, because Thursday, Kelly's being kidnapped and will need rescuing. And then Friday, a face from our past will show up to settle the score with us, but it will all be wrapped up in 45 minutes, and the final shot will be of us drinking at the Scuttlebutt, laughing, or both.
    That's it, that's the formula of Thunder in Paradise.

    i love these late 80s and 90s stereotypical action movies/series. i have pretty recently watched Renegade with lorenzo lamas (93-97) and i remember jesse ventura made an apperence as a villian in one episode. im currently watching some baywatch just for nostalgia reasons aswell. tho i have to say renegade was a pretty good series. but man, i miss the mid 90s to some degree. 90s overall was such a strange decade aswell

      Dave Bautista has been in some good movies. And I think he's done a great job as Drax. He really cracks me up. HOWEVER, you'll also notice he's not top billing movies... or even close to top billing... YET. So, I'm unwilling to compare the quality of movies between him and the Rock... maybe in the future.

    I definitely remember the Thunder In Paradise video game for CD-i. It sucks you never play as Hulkster or even Jack Lemmon's son in the game. Instead, you play as frickin J.T. from "Step By Step" (which was actually a pretty good show in the 90's). That little decision didn't make a very good game (oh, and because the fact that it was interactive).

      I don’t think Hogan paved any ways. The Rock started with minor roles and worked his up. It took The Rock about 7 years or so to be considered a “legitimate” actor and another 7 years or so to be considered a box office success.

    Random fun fact! Because of something known as the Cuban Adjustment Act which was enacted in 1966 by Lyndon Johnson those people Brian referred to as illegal immigrants actually would not have been illegal at all. In practice the CAA makes it so that any basically native Cuban who can make it to the US can get a visa and eventually permanent citizenship here. Eschewing the normal restrictions for legal immigration into the US such as (and this is directly from the bill) showing a reason for residence, and entering into a legal port of entry. This is ESPECIALLY true if they were "persecuted, or feared persecution" in Cuba. Which I think includes sneaking around avoiding pursuit until finally egressing under a hail of gunfire with the assistance of Hulk Hogan.
