Fun con ideas: Step one: bring an item that you know a popular character is obsessed with Step two: find two or three of that character Step three: make them fight to the death for it Edit: forgot a step Step four: run like hell before con security can find you and ban you from said con
The cool thing about popular characters is that people can still make them very unique by putting their own spin on the character. Pokémon is a good example of that. With more popular Pokémon such as the eeveelutions, I may see several groups of them walking around. However, they're all different. I've seen one group of warrior-style eevees, another group of Jedi, and another group in gypsy-like outfits. I personally think it's really cool that people can find a popular character/characters and put their own twist on it to make it unique. ^^
I really agree with you on this. I found myself angry over overdone cosplays a lot of times but in the end, does it even matter? I've personally come to the conclusion that cosplay should be a source for appreciation and fun, instead of hate. I had to remind myself that I also started cosplaying with an overdone character and that's okay :3 there's so much unnecessary negativity in the whole scene these days, every single person should make an effort to make this hobby more enjoyable for everyone ^^
When you mentioned Deadpool, it's like the CollegeHumor video covering a Comic-Con panel infested with crossover cosplayers. Whether it's over-cosplayed characters or if the franchise has a large cast and is a big hit like Pokemon for example.
I find cosplaying "over cosplayed" cosplays to be fun in most cases. Some of the most fun interactions I've had with random people at cons was when I was wearing my Edward elric cosplay and death the kid cosplay. I do also find a lot of fun in cosplaying not so cosplayed characters but sometimes it can be a bit discouraging because people may not know who you are. I cosplayed as zen from snow white with the red hair and barely anyone knew who I was. Again attention isn't everything but it can be discouraging especially if you are new to cosplay
But some of the most rewarding times with my cosplay is if I'm cosplaying someone not cosplayed a lot and people come up and just appreciate the fact you cosplaying the character because it isn't cosplayed very often. It's also fun sometimes knowing that you are possibly the only person cosplaying said character at that con and that makes it feel kinda special.
Thank you. 1000x THANK YOU! I am so incredibly weary of hearing people complain about Deadpool cosplayers or Harley Quinn or now... doing the "oh god, how many Wonder Women do you think there will be at DragonCon?" Why does this have to become a negative thing, usually from jerks that don't even wear costumes themselves? As a cosplayer myself, an older cosplayer (even though I don't look it), I find this attitude just appalling. I don't put hundreds of hours into costumes throughout the year, get dressed in my hotel room and wear things inspired by my favorite shows and characters to impress judgmental jerks. No. I do it for me. Opinions can be kept to themselves. So, thank you for this. I was really worried at the subject line/title, but I'm so glad of the direction it took.
I'm so so happy you did this rant in a more positive light. I get that people might get tired of seeing a character over and over, but there's always a reason someone chooses to cosplay the character that they do, and more often than not it's because they can connect with them. I've heard complaints about "there's so many of _____ " at a con and it made me feel slightly discouraged from doing that series again (because I WAS that character) even though it was my first convention. Thanks for the awesome videos man! Keep rockin!
Last con I was at there were ALOT of Junko Enoshima and Grell from Black Butler but I did not find, if anything all the Grell cosplayers agreed to meet up for one massive picture, and possibly go and chase the 4 Sebastians at the con XD Nothing wrong with cosplaying a popular character, hence what popular is. Those complaining should go take a hike as it is not hurting them and if it is, well their problem not anyone elses.
I personally love seeing over cosplayed characters, it makes for great group photos. My first anime convention I went to in 2019 I cosplayed Shoto Todoroki and there was AT LEAST 15 other Todoroki's if not more. I found it absolutely hilarious.
But one thing I think is important is that if you're cosplaying a character you should love them and be passionate about it. I know Attack on Titan is really popular, or so my best friend says, but I love it so I don't care if it's common. I'm going to do it :3
This is why I cosplay old school cartoon chacaters. Older people give me tons of attention and it's nice some still remember. I love cosplaying Darkwing Duck the most.
THIS!!!!! I love cosplaying my kakashi because it's fun and makes not only myself happy and confident but seeing how excited others get seeing kakashi walking around. But when I made my own take on joker Quinn NO ONE knew who I was at c2e2
As a Todoroki, Bakugo, Amijiki and toga cosplayer, I would LOVE to see someone in the same character as me, i feel like it would be funny, but that’s just me
Exactly this happens to when people ask me what's my favorite anime and I say naruto and they say how that's mainstream and I'm like everyone else! Like dude what's wrong with a lot of people liking the same anime?
Naruto became mainstream because so many people love it, someone saying they don't like something because it's mainstream is like saying "I don't drink water because everyone else is drinking water."
Usually it comes with the idea like you havent seen any other anime since its a big name anime its like you havent been touched by any lesser known series enough (it also makes you sound young..) When people hear you like a lesser known / talked about series, it seems more like you've watched a good share of anime and have solid reasonings on why you like it.
I prefer uniform cosplays over actual characters, something like standard leaf ninja or soul reaper. Rank and file generic background characters need more love and make great fanon potential. It's why I love standard mass production mecha in real robot anime, as you can customize and improve them into something unique as time passes on.
For my CMVs, I don't find repetition or overcosplayed characters to be a problem as I know a majority of my audience are mostly going to be viewers from that particular con who have never or only saw a few of my other CMVs. But I always find it important to have good variety for my followers and try to find some new cosplays regardless of how popular the series is. But I will never discriminate based how often we see the that series. I know I got feedback that I use too much Overwarch, League, and Love Live for my CMVs but doesn't bother me as much lol.
I love this video! You make so many good points especially the last one. So many people may love or connect with that character and it is their choice to cosplay.
Exactly it doesn't matter if that cosplay was done over and over! like yeah it may be boring to see the same character over and over at one point but i wouldn't get mad at the cosplayer for that... I just like seeing cosplays and I dont care if I see a 200th todoroki (over-exaggerated example I've only seen a few my hero academia cosplays)
I stopped cosplaying after people kept whispering behind me and yelling it behind my back that "WHY IS EVERYONE COSPLAYING MIKU, GODAMMIT, DON'T THEY HAVE ANY IMAGINATION AT ALL??" I tried to get back into cosplaying, but am currently just dressing up as OCs that I've created in the past Even tho no one will recognize them, no one can go all "I've seen that, so stop cosplaying as said character!"
i cant tell you how many times ive been overlooked when i cosplay; granted i dont think im excellent or anything, but i do put effort into making things look nice and/or official. the issue is that i tend to do characters that are from older series or arent very popular/relevant in the US. but, if im being honest, when i do get people who recognize me, i get very happy - even if someone just wants a picture or compliments me, i appreciate it a whole bunch!
I practically always cosplay the same character, just different outfits. I always cosplay Nozomi because she's one of my favourite characters and she's also the only one who has a similar body to me which helps me feel more accurate. I buy my cosplays because I don't know how to make them. The only thing orginal about my cosplays is that I'm the chibi version of her since I'm the smallest Nozomi cosplayer I have ever seen in person or online. But I still cosplay her, even if she's super popular. I love meeting other cosplayers doing the same character because it's a common interest. I'm going to do my first non-Nozomi cosplay at FanExpo since I'm doing a group cosplay but I might still cosplay her another day because I love her and she makes me feel cute
I remember going to a Anime Convention with a cosplay base on what the US wore back in the Vietnam war, along with the US Assault class from BF4. It was cool doing something different but at the same, many have dumb questions like "Is it a WW2 cosplay,' and getting same to no attention.
It's true my first cosplay was Sasha from attack on Titan and I didn't even have the wig I just put my long brown hair in a ponytail so it's easier to find the jacket in more sizes
Thatrandogirl is awesome i did the same exact thing but I was hanji lolol I actually kept taking my glasses off because they were irritating to wear so a lot of people thought I was Sasha....
Thank you guys so much for all the love and support on this video! I didn't expect it to reach this many people so fast. I am glad I can help spread a bit more positivity into this community.
Yeah, I'm going to my first con in May and I chose to cosplay as Sasha Braus from attack on Titan because she's my favorite character and her materials would just be easy to find. When I told some fellow weebs who I was cosplaying as they lashed at me for wanting to cosplay as a character from anime that people overcosplay from ;-;
Hoooly sh*t the blue shirt guy in the middle at 1:50 stalked me at a con dance once...I don't even live in the same state how'd he get all the way to Detroit?

I don't hate the cosplayers that do this, but I try to avoid doing the same thing myself (unless the character hasn't been done in a while). People can cosplay what they want! I want to cosplay rarely cosplayed characters, that's my choice, not everyone has to do the same! ^v^
I did MikuMiku which is over cosplayed but because I'm Black it makes me automatically special so whatever I wear I can't be over overdone. :( I dunno how to feel about that.
I'm buying a cosplay of bunnysuit d.va and it looks so nice.. but i know I'll get a lot of people commenting on it before I played overwatch I just loved D.va she's a cutie, my fiance thinks I'm more a Mei..

I am aware of three older cosplayers I normally see every year for the past 10 years I've been going to anime conventions. A guy and his wife in their late 40's as Lupin III and Fujiko and a guy in his 70's as Captain Juzo Okita of Space Battleship Yamamoto. Because of them, when I'm not vlogging I would choose to cosplay "background" characters (regular soul reaper from Bleach) or a minor character (regular night guard from FNAF franchise). It's not bad to over cosplay a character, but I can get a little old for some and want to see something unique.

Finding alot of closplay for a single popular character is pretty fun to me. When popular characters meet up, the funniest things can happen
Fun con ideas:
Step one: bring an item that you know a popular character is obsessed with
Step two: find two or three of that character
Step three: make them fight to the death for it
Edit: forgot a step
Step four: run like hell before con security can find you and ban you from said con
It was I...DIO!! Seeing multiple dios goof around is the best
The more popular the character. The More popular the cosplay.
Exactly!
A lot of pop culture is MASS media, so expect more people to cosplay characters related to a popular franchise.

Perfectly said, thank you! This hobby can cost a boatload of money! Praise those who do it!
That little girl dressed as Yui holding onto Kirito's hand at the 4:00 mark. SO CUTE!!
So glad I wasn't the only one who thought that. XD
I'm never tired of seeing them I still find it fun . 😊

I agree, this is why my rant videos will continue to be about spreading positivity in this community. If no one else will take a stand for it, I will.
When you mentioned Deadpool, it's like the CollegeHumor video covering a Comic-Con panel infested with crossover cosplayers.
Whether it's over-cosplayed characters or if the franchise has a large cast and is a big hit like Pokemon for example.
I like how there are so many Kirito cosplayers running around in those video clips while you talk about over-cosplayed characters xD

You probably just confused and shooked a good amount of people with these facts.
Thanks a lot for this rant though, definitely need to be said ^^
what if you went to a con and saw 26 Gendo's from Evangelion?
As a Todoroki, Bakugo, Amijiki and toga cosplayer, I would LOVE to see someone in the same character as me, i feel like it would be funny, but that’s just me

I totally agree. I love Attack on Titan and I always get so happy whenever I see Attack on Titan cosplayers 💕
0:21 Naroto , Vocoloids, Zelda, deadpool, Kingdom Heart, AOT. I️ can agree with that
if I had a dollar for every deadpool cosplay I've seen ...I'd be rich.
but they're all great nice people.

YES HAHA at cons I try to cosplay out of the loop and because of that I get mobbed every time lol.
Every turn and every step you take there’s an akatsuki cosplayer 😂😂
Why did I grow teary eyed at this???
Different realm when comparing cosplayers at comic conventions to anime conventions. Different demographics, different interests.
This is very true, for a con I am going to, I am cosplay as David from Camp Camp because you only see Rooster Teeth cosplay(except RWBY) at RTX.
I remember going to a Anime Convention with a cosplay base on what the US wore back in the Vietnam war, along with the US Assault class from BF4.
It was cool doing something different but at the same, many have dumb questions like "Is it a WW2 cosplay,' and getting same to no attention.

Denmark lol
I generally cosplay uncommon characters by accident and I kinda hate it lmao

would love to be added on this considering known you from when i had my old suits for deadpool to my newer one as well

I'm buying a cosplay of bunnysuit d.va and it looks so nice.. but i know I'll get a lot of people commenting on it
before I played overwatch I just loved D.va she's a cutie, my fiance thinks I'm more a Mei..
1:11 was that literally a yaoi booth?
You know if this was posted today you know he would be saying bnha cosplayers and Spider-Mans
I’m going to go to my first con soon and plan on wearing a uraka wig because it’s going to be the easiest to do and also the most recent anime I’ve watched. So for the sake of not going over the top for my first cosplay I’m just going to do urarka
Raylin Bishop I mean like it’s pretty much fine because my first cosplay was a bnha cosplay so I don’t really care but it’s just there is a lot of bnha cosplayers because they are easy to do and simple
this makes me happy
Can I put like three home stuck carecters in there???
There is like always john Dave and karkat
Its annoying
I love these videos
L o v e l i v e c o s p l a y
They're everywhere
But I think it's fine for multiple same cosplays >:(
TOO MANY OVER COSLPAYED
Wow I did not notice that at all!
I am aware of three older cosplayers I normally see every year for the past 10 years I've been going to anime conventions. A guy and his wife in their late 40's as Lupin III and Fujiko and a guy in his 70's as Captain Juzo Okita of Space Battleship Yamamoto. you need to make Becky a thing

Hikaru Shindo ok I remember that anime
guess ill cosplay Pico from Boku no Pico-
too many female daves
THANK YOU
