There are not 29 Lakhs engineers passing every year, few years back 10-11 Lakhs students attempted JEE . This year 24 Lakhs registration are there for 4 attempts. Thus total unique registration are only 6-10 lakhs.
I agree with you,the problem is we have oversupply of bad quality of engineers and colleges. We need to close down bad colleges so that entry to engineering becomes tough. Right now the problem is entry to engineering is easy but getting out successfully is hard because of bad quality.

If I speak about proffesors in different fields. Then proffesors of MBBS class are Doctors which are contributing to society. Proffesors of CA students are serving to industry as their syllabus is regularly updated but engineering proffesors from tier 3 colleges are just clerks, providing no value to society. If they are fired, then wouldn't be able to do anything. Typical schedule of proffesors is-wake up-go to college-read and discuss the ppt without practical examples and challenging assignment problems-have some tea and gossips with other proffesors-come home, spend time with family and sleep. They do publish research papers but they are of no use to industry. Research by IIT proffesors helps industry.

Not hitting the basic issue again..its more about the disconnect from the technical English books / English lectures that the intrest of learning just goes away at early age as 5tg grade..
The basic thing to reform a population is to give them freedom to study in their mother tongue... Any developed country on the planet does its kg to phd in there own language.. And hence the creativity and leaning enthusiasm remains alive.. Just think of any developed country which doesn't do this.. And then think of developing countries.. Have they not abandon their roots and jumped on the English band vagon.
One always stresses to read standard books while studying engineering.. 99% student just doze of after reading the preface of the foreign author English book.
Learning from online quality lectures.. Well again English.. It has consumed and destroyed intelligence of the whole population..
If one explore this root cause.. The learing passion will be back.. And then the enducation structure will change..
So much for the natural langauge processing research.. Please start a project in iisc to begin translating technical books of all domain in every Indian langauge..not fiction novels.
Today youtube is filled up with vidos like
"cpp in desi bhasa". Or cpp in Hindi.. Etc..
And they consume so much attention from students..
So the language barrier is the root cause.. Fix it... Atleast ask nptel to record lectures in engineering subjects in Indian languages atleast prominent ones for starters..
You will see the intrest in learing coming back among the youth..
They want to learn.. But can't internalise any tecnicial concept until some friend explains them in their mother tongue.. But thst happens one day before semester exam.

In India we can't have one language. In IIT's people from all the states join. So one teacher can't use his mother tongue to teach students having different mother tongue. It's not feasible in this country.

As far the NLP is concerned, IITs are already working multi language transcription of nptel videos (especially iit Madras recently did a nice work). But you should note that translation of a fiction story book is still an easy problem compared to translating a technical literature. In technical literature, it has be to be very precise and it cannot be handled by state of the art NLP machines, though big giant companies in collaboration with institutions are working on it.

You should also read the comment by iit Delhi director, about keeping the syllabus in mother tongue, there is so many literature that is available in English, the global language, we don't wanna miss out on that, it's too late to start in mother tongue now.

@@rrsaxena92 so much population and still not feasable.. we just dont want to take a step/// there are so many people teaching in you-tube but they too for the sake of popularity do it in English... educators should stand up from each state and try to cater to their language (unacadamy could do it.. but again everyone wants to become pan india famous).. same thing about IITs. they should step and translate standard books or write new ones using AI to speed up the process. students should demand it.. only then it will be provided..each IIT has many many professors who speak the language of its iit zone.. each IITs should do it own set of standard courses
it has to become a mass movemen of demand..

@@bazilahmed3606 dont miss na. just translate. china is in forefront of technology. do u think they dont read foreign author books.. ..they study till phd in Chinese. they just took their language seriously and kept their population engaged in learning.

Sir is it possible to become a Research Scientist at Google Research, Microsoft Research or IBM Research with just a MTech degree from IISc? I mean to ask is PhD compulsory to get full time "research scientist" position in these organisations or I can get in directly after MTech from IISc or with addition few years of experience as Data scientist/ applied scientist?

Another thing, very few colleges have inter department projects, even many IIT's don't have inter department projects many a time because of their ego. Inter department projects help in great skill development of students & prof while creating a good innovation
