Hey! I finally made this dress. It's the first dress I've ever really made, so i'm not in the intermediate-advanced category I should be, but i loved the look so much I had to try. It came out great! Your instructions were so careful and thoughtful. I made some changes, and I struggled with the cuffs because interfacing is hard (again, a newbie) but it feels so luxurious and special to have a garment I made for myself... thanks for making this long-standing dream to make my own clothes come true, and i look forward to your future patterns.
OMG that's the perfect pioneer dress! I never imagined it that way, with no waistline, but it's so sensible for a woman on the prairie who might need to deal with size changes due to pregnancy or a thousand other reasons.
Woohoo! It's here! I absolutely am not an advanced sewist but I'm going to pick it up anyway and work up to it. I love that it feels "historical" without looking like a costume, and it's very wearable as a modern garment. I especially love that it's very roomy without looking like a sack. I have nerve damage (and thus lots of pain) in my abdomen, and I also fluctuate in size a bit, so having flexible garments that also look cute is A++!
I love to hear that! I must say it has been a really fun challenge to design cute garments that fit my aesthetic and also work for many different body types and are "adjustable" for size fluctuation!
THE pattern I was waiting for to fulfill my historical AND Ghibli esthetics! I have bought this beautiful pattern and can not wait to make this dress. Thank you so much for all your hard work! ❤
I’m so excited too. I’m planning a family Halloween costume theme with me as Sophie, hubby as Howl ,our son as Marco and the baby as Calcifer. (Since we don’t have another baby yet it will have to wait till we do have a second child in our family )
Your videos are so clear, detailed, yet going smooth and fast, it's a pleasure ! Love that dress, considering getting the pattern (normally I would make my own but you clearly have thought about so many details of how to do things for a smoother result, I really like that) but I'll modify it to remove the drop opening in the back, as my neck and high back are suuuper sensitive to cold ^^'
I love the color-blocking option! That looks wicked. Style... I know you're saying Victorian-esque but it reminds me of the unhistorical costuming of Little House on the Prairie, the tv show? Or like the pseudo-historical styles that got popular around the bicentennial? Either way it's cool af.
Usually I find something interesting about it, if you know it it's called Mother Hubbard dress or some call it "prairie dress" but the hem of the skirt is long also as a loose fitting gown. It was a housework dress and also worn by most of pacific islander women, especially tahitians. Also some parts in Africa until now, they still have the reminisce of mother Hubbard dresses in their garments.
Just bought the flannel for a lounge version of this! A 10 yard bolt, 44 inches wide, as 60 inch wide fabric is hard to find near me. I am doing this entirely by hand, so this will be a long and interesting challenge for my evenings. I just need to get the pattern and make some samples of things like the sleeve head, cuff, and body, as I will be embroidering them. Thank you so much for such a wonderful and modifiable pattern!
I'm IN LOVE with that color blocking dress!!! I've been wanting to make a dress like this for a while, but i wanna try doing a more beginner friendly version! maybe instead of cuffs i'll do elastic at the sleeves so i can roll them up when i need to. I'll probably mess around with some pattern ideas cuz i've never drafted my own pattern before 😅 i'm definitely gonna take lots of pointers from this dress tho!!!! Thank's for the inspiration 🥰
just in time to catch me 👀at my stash contemplating actually doing something with it today. I might not go for cottagecore(yet) but either way I love sew-alongs for motivation 🥰
the colorblocking goes crazy that is such a cool idea!!! I was just thinking about why I don't like dresses and I think having a funky colorblocked design might solve some of those things.
so happy to have found your channel, I'm a beginner (going to tackle a pleated skirt for the first time this week) but this is on my list for when I develop my skills more!
Good question! The hips have over 20” of ease so it should work without any alterations but if you want more volume in the body you can but the body pieces a size larger than the yoke, there will just be slightly more gathering into the yoke.
I absolutely love this dress and your hair color. Love how it goes with the dress. I will be visiting your pattern store soon. Thanks for sharing your talents and skills. I truly appreciate you!
@@Ora_Lin Oh also, is the name of the dress a reference to Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle? As soon as I saw the dress (especially the color), that's the first thing I thought of! Whether or not it is, tis lovely!
Can you adjust this pattern so it works with fabrics that have a nap? I would love to make a lightweight flannel or birdseye piqué version that I can wear with stockings, but also undo the belt and sleep in if I feel ill during the day.
@@Ora_Lin Thank you! Please convert your chemise pattern into an envelope chemise! Thank you for making something warm, comfortable, and easy to wear.
@@Ora_Lin Ah, thank you. I have the Folkwear Prairie Dress and Apron pattern. It is similar in concept but the yoke is oval and must be longer since it only has a front placket. Loved the color block version of your dress 💜❤💛💚💙.
@Ora Lin I'm sorry, when I log on, that page isn't showing. I'm so sorry I messed it up by not downloading it immediately. I was on my phone when i purchased it and I was going to go on my computer to print it out. But I can't get the download page again.
You should be able to find the pattern by looking at the receipt email and clicking the red button that says “Go to Your Order” Then scroll down until you see a blue button that says “view contents” and the files will be there
You can find the pattern here!! ko-fi.com/s/0ebd47ed7a

This is honestly one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen! And it has pockets. Perfection ❤
I'm glad you mentioned lolita! When I saw the thumbnail, my first thought was, "a little alterations and this'd be perfect for lolita."
THE pattern I was waiting for to fulfill my historical AND Ghibli esthetics! I have bought this beautiful pattern and can not wait to make this dress. Thank you so much for all your hard work! ❤

well now it's MY dream dress too! so beautiful, amazing work! and thank you for working so hard on the pattern as well

Sooooo beautiful!!! 😍🤩
Forever Teal Dreamin 💙 💚 💙
Yay! I'm looking forward to making it! Ooo, what about tone on tone tie dye....ideas! 💜
Just printed my Sophie pattern! I’m so excited to start it!

Such beautiful dress! ❤❤❤ I would so much love to make it
That colour-blocked version is fantastic.
Thank you!
this is sick as hell I've been looking for something like this for a loooonnng time. Now to just get good enough to make it!!!
you can do it!
Very excited for this one, it is just such a fun dress that can be dressed up or down sooooo easily.
I agree❤️
My hips are 12 inches larger than my bust measurement. How would you advise adjusting the pattern for those of us who are pear shaped?
Good question! The hips have over 20” of ease so it should work without any alterations but if you want more volume in the body you can but the body pieces a size larger than the yoke, there will just be slightly more gathering into the yoke.

I'm so excited to try this pattern, I might actually get to it this month 😂
Man this one went way over my head 😵 someday. Beautiful dress 🥰
This is such a cool pattern, can't wait to try it.
🥰
Thank youuuuu ❤
So excited for this! Such a gorgeous dress, and I can't wait to make my own. I'd love to know where you got the linen you used for the teal version.
I got the linen from dharma trading and dyed it myself
Very excited to make this when I get paid later this month! It is a look I've been wanting to get for ages, absolutely perfect!
Thank you💕
The dress is gorgeous!
thank you!
Its a beautiful dress.
Thank you!
Gorgeous 😍
Thank you!
It‘s very pretty!
It's very beautiful
Fantastic pattern! What fabric would you recommend for this?
Thank you! Any light to midnight woven fabric can work for this pattern. I used a 4.7-5.5 oz linen for the samples
Can you adjust this pattern so it works with fabrics that have a nap? I would love to make a lightweight flannel or birdseye piqué version that I can wear with stockings, but also undo the belt and sleep in if I feel ill during the day.
Hi Grace, you could definitely use a fabric with a nap, just be mindful of the direction it is going on each pattern piece!
@@Ora_Lin Thank you! Please convert your chemise pattern into an envelope chemise! Thank you for making something warm, comfortable, and easy to wear.
It reminds me of a Mother Hubbard.🤔
Why is there a front placket and a back key hole?
Because just the front placket wasn’t enough to comfortably fit over most peoples heads
@@Ora_Lin Ah, thank you. I have the Folkwear Prairie Dress and Apron pattern. It is similar in concept but the yoke is oval and must be longer since it only has a front placket. Loved the color block version of your dress 💜❤💛💚💙.
I brought the pattern. Will it be sent to my email address?
Hi Patricia, you should see the files to download on the same webpage immediately after purchasing on ko-fi.
@Ora Lin I'm sorry, when I log on, that page isn't showing. I'm so sorry I messed it up by not downloading it immediately. I was on my phone when i purchased it and I was going to go on my computer to print it out. But I can't get the download page again.

I don't know how to explain it, but the color blocking version of the dress looks more Ghibli than the blue one lol
