- Camping trip in the mountains! Escaping the summer heat to go camp and fish for trout up high on Grand Mesa. My new PB on the Fly, catching rainbow trout all day long and cooking some at the end of the day, relaxing by the campfire, and taking the dog on his first camping trip were just a few highlights of Part One of this camping trip. That was an awesome part one. Unfortunately, i can only do day trips to the mountains. i have too many animals and obligations back at home but that's ok at least i get to go when i can go. That pup is awesome and growing like a weed... Can't wait to see part 2. It would be funny if we ran into each other!!! LOL

@Stacy Salmans Lots of really good places to camp up here on the Mesa. Unless you go to the MAIN lakes, you will always find something nice. Haha with the coloration of it's topside, I really thought I had a Tiger during the catch lol. Maybe next time! All I want to do is go back lol, Tight Lines Stacy!!!

That's a great spot! If it's the lake I'm thinking of, we've found some tigers there. Headed back next weekend and can't wait.

Only about 60 miles from where I live it's such a beautiful area. Congrats on your PB on the fly rod. I think there is 12 lakes with Tiger trout if you want to count the 4 porter reservoirs.

Good stuff you two! Looks like a lot of fun! That bow was great…too bad you couldn’t revive him. You guys do such a nice job of catch and release there is absolutely no shame in keeping a few for dinner. Someday I might try my hand at fly fishing…any suggestions on an entry level setup for Colorado trout?
@Greg Roden Appreciate that greatly Greg, it was a really fun trip. Ya I tried my hardest but it just wouldn't swim off at all, at least it made a good meal the next day. You really should, I just started practicing during the COVID lockdown and watched some instructional videos. Cheyenne got me this Orvis Clearwater outfit as a gift. The whole setup isn't too bad cost wise. BUT It's been amazing and I think some of the reason why I've been getting into fly fishing so much this year. I used to use my Dad's OLD setup he got in the early 2000's. It was discontinued over 10 years ago and was really stiff and much heavier then my current setup, still did wonders for me and I got a lot of good fish on it. Not a great specific answer but I am super amateur still when it comes to this fly fishing thing, sorry.
Those were some real beautiful bows. Makes me wish I could've caught some while I was out camping with my family, it's been too long since I had a flame grilled trout.

Good stuff guys, what month is it when you're camping? Im headed up there this summer and do we need any special permits for anything. We will be overlanding in a Jeep
@Craig Kosters This was in August😀 You don't need any special permits, the Mesa has designated camping spots and lots of spots for dispersed camping.
Maybe you can point us in the right direction? My wife and I will be staying at early settlers in early September. We will have our Can am sxs, not a 50 inch wide, and want to fish some lakes in that area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx

@Steven Doud If you ever get a chance to, make the trip!! It's worth it!! I wish I did, or I would certainly tell you. Northern CO is really unfamiliar for me😔 Only been to FoCo twice in my life and it's been over 15 years since my last visit.

@Marlin James That's a long answer haha, we've done a multitude of videos explaining those types of things. Not trying to pump other videos but would be easier then typing you a chapter book.
