Just curious. Why go to all the trouble when HF sells a plain Jain wooden handle hatchet? Does this hatchet have a larger cutting surface or is it heavier?
This is more the style blade I was wanting.

good job using the apple cider vinegar, it works the same as white, might even be more acidic actually.
I sharpened the other side and used it as a brush axe and a pickaroon
I just got one for my self to do the same thing

Why not trim the spike end down to a pickaroon??
I was wanting a mallet/hammer head on the opposed side. A pickaroon isn’t a bad idea at all though!
What’s the weight u think after cutting off the spike?

What is the apple cider vinegar for??
It adds a protective “patina” to the metal. Notice the darkened color. It also reveals the hamon line which shows how well the steel was hardened.
