    Great motivational video. Retired from a desk job 5 years ago at 64 years of age weighing 350#'s. Took up riding a road bike and now I'm about to turn 70 weighing 218#'s and I feel great. I'm 6'4 and I want to eventually get my weight down to 180. I do my 30- 35 mile rides about 4x per week (weather permitting) and prefer to ride solo which gives me much needed time to myself. Between road rides I have an indoor spinner and a treadmill so I workout out every day. I sincerely believe if I had not taken up cycling I would have become diabetic or worse yet already be in the ground. I'm fortunate to be in good physical health. On a side note I've turned into a bike mechanic and do all my own work now which I also find enjoyable.

    Started riding in July ‘23(Trek emonda). Thanks for sharing. I can relate! Working from home I would go days without stepping foot outside and I slowly became more and more sad. Riding has helped me break out of that as well as gain new friends and a hobby I feel like I can do for literally the rest of my life. Just found your channel, really enjoying it. Thanks man.

    I live on the coast in Wales and am lucky to get the opportunity to ride a lot, but even when I don’t feel like it or I’m super busy, even getting out for a quick hour spin makes me so much happier.

    I weighed 311 pounds as we entered into the lockdown. I had been losing to alcohol addiction for over a decade, so when we went into lockdown, I finally decided to take an hour each day to walk.
    They say you gotta learn to walk before you run, and for me that was true...except I had to walk before I learned to ride (after a 20-year hiatus from bikes). After that, I got on my exercise bike (35 minutes felt like an eternity!). Then, I rode around a parking lot from anywhere between 2-6 miles (and THAT seemed like I was riding for another eternity!).
    Then, I just kept on riding. I started meeting friends for rides, and as my riding increased, I was able to stop drinking completely. I began to experience joy and happiness, and even people who didn't really even know I was an alcoholic knew I had changed. They saw it as though a veil had lifted from over my demeanor.
    Like you, Mitch, I hope to ride the rest of my life. I truly enjoy it. It helps me be happy. No, it's not WHAT makes me happy, but it's a piece of the picture of my happiness.
    Anyway, that's my "Ride to be Happy" story. Thanks for sharing yours.

    Cycling was something I scoffed at initially since I was mainly a tennis player growing up and picked up distance running as a young adult. In March, I tore my ACL and picked up a hybrid bike (Cannondale Quick CX 4) during Labor Day weekend because I needed to get outside and riding a stationary bike as my only means of cardio was driving me crazy. I returned the hybrid bike and picked up a Gravel Bike (Cannondale Topstone 4) 2 weeks later thanks to REI's friendly return policy and have been loving it.
    My rides mainly consisted of going up a street and back another staying in the bike lane but now my rides just involve me starting Strava on my Apple Watch and going wherever my bike (and mind) wanders. It has become a mental exercise as much as it is a physical one letting me recap my workday, reflect on goals I'm working on, and just unwinding while smashing the pedals. I personally found myself much more refreshed physically, mentally, and emotionally after the ride.
    Rapha Films has a video titled "Perspectives" and that video describes my relationship with cycling: an athlete specialized in my sport (tennis) and has turned to cycling for more than a cardio workout but also as a means of inspiration and escape.

    Nice video. Well done on meeting and beating your life challenges. For me, cycling is for fun, fitness, and exploring. It's amazing how many places you can get to on a bike that you would never find in a car. I've found streets just half a kilometer from my home that I never knew existed. And because cycling is free (once you bought the bike!) and it's outdoors I always come back home a better person after a ride.

    I respect and appreciate you and this video on many levels. I have been dealing with similar mental health issues and have found cycling, both indoor and more so outdoor, along with family support and professional help has done wonders for me. The weather where I live is just warming up to ride outside. I tell my wife when I come home that I’m grateful for a safe ride and that it was therapy. Even when my legs feel heavy and I doubt my fitness and ability. Thank you for sharing your story. It’s rainy today, but this has motivated me to spin my legs on the trainer after work!

Thanks for sharing.

    Awesome video! Cycling has made me a better person. Actually less of me too. I’ve lost gained and lost again pretty close to the equivalent of my “fattest me”. But yeah I made a commitment about 18 months ago to be more mindful of my health. Started off buying a folding bike to carry to DC so I could ride around for photography (which is how I found your page BTW). Weight started falling off and then when the pandemic hit in earnest we pulled the trigger on a Peloton. That was the final piece of the puzzle as I totally clicked with PZ training, my man Denis as well as lots of other great instructors. Lost enough weight I was able to get my Colnago C-40 back out on the road and since then I invested in a new Cannondale SuperSix Evo HiMOD and it’s been great. Aside from a six week break to have hernia surgery (yes I am old) I’ve been riding indoors or outside most every day. I love the structure of the indoor experience and PZ training but I also love to ride for fun be it the Jess King Experience or the 6:30 am 21 mile doughnut time trial to my favorite shop. It is so gratifying to see you happy, relaxed and sharing content again. But watch your back young man I’m 18W back on the FTP express and coming in hot 😂😂😂

    Hi Mitch,
    I loved your printing videos. You are really great at explaining things, breaking them down and making them clear. I'm sorely disappointed that you're not making them anymore. However, I don't want you to be depressed and I want you to be happy. Ideally, I want you to be happy making printing videos because I'm not particularly interested in cycling videos. So, I got an idea: You should get a printer. Don't get the big monster you had before, get a small printer. Put it outside. Then, take your stationary bike, put it outside as well. Get on your stationary bike and while pedaling away, you can talk about printing! Best of all, you could hook up your stationary bike to power your printer. It's a win-win on all fronts!! Think about it: You'll be happy because you'll be outdoors, on your bike and I will be happy because I'll get to watch you talk about printing. It'll be great!!! What d'ya say?

    • @MitchBoyer
      @MitchBoyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestion! I have thought about potentially getting a smaller printer in the future, but for now I’m gonna continue taking a break from printing. I can understand the disappointment you and many others might be feeling. I have been talking with a few people that are in the process of making their own TH-cam printing channels, so hopefully there will be some new good printing content out there soon that I can point everyone too!
