    It is a shame that a government agency, (with non elected employees) can decide whether you can or can not park a tiny home on your own property and all of the other dozens of rules they impose.

    I really want to attend a workshop so I know how to build and where each part goes. My main issue would be where to put the tiny house. I would like to station it close to Florida. I want to have a small garden outdoors and raise chickens as well. I would either probably paint the walls though or put added insulation and walls to paint. As long as there is ample space in the shower, I am good. I would have to measure that. I would have to get rid and sell a lot of things to go tiny. That's another difficult part in the process.

    Beautiful, I love the pine paneling and the sky blue accents inside.
    One of the big appeals to me, theoretically, is it is said to take very little time to clean.
    So, for me, I feel that much less guilty when I don't clean. In the nineties or early two thousands, there was the McMansion trend, and there were vacuum systems built into the walls. That was supposed to be the height of luxury. Less work for women.

    Well the two main things I noticed about this video was it looked like a very nice layout and ending result for the tiny house and the second thing is every space in the house seemed to belong to the woman, except for half the bed.

      Thank you we love our layout. Nothing belongs to either of us in regards to space. We swap hammocks on the daily. And enjoy time in every area of the tiny. He can use the loft if he needs or wants to..he just doesn't as much because I work from home and he goes to the office. It's all in how ya live at the moment I suppose.

    The money is what I dont get about tiny houses. They said they were in this for like 50k? There are plenty of existing houses in fine shape around the country that would get you 1000-1500sq ft for that money with fully functional baths, showers, kitchens etc.

    • @mrscopeland1
      @mrscopeland1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We didn't want a traditional house. With wheels we can move where we want. We do enjoy or land. But if our life changes we can take it with us. Housing in our area in Virginia is much more expensive than this.. Most homes are in the 200-500 k and we didn't want that debt. We did this so we can be debt free. We also didn't want the large house to take care of! I so love the 144 Sq ft. I would never want a large house to care for again. That's our personal preference. We wanted a smaller space. Minimal living is amazing! 🤗

    • @miket2646
      @miket2646 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrscopeland1 I understand the reasoning but 200-500k seems pretty disproportionate as a comparison. Im 20min outside of chicago in a very well regarded county and $275k can get you 1500sq ft with a two car garage.
      If you go 2.5hrs south of the city you can get 1200sq ft for about $80k.
      The other issue with a tiny home on wheels is that while you can take it with you, it doesnt appreciate. In 20 years, it will be viewed the same as a 20 year old car instead of a home that may have increased dramatically in value.
      Besides, at the rate you're paying for sq ft, you're in the ballpark of half a million dollars for a basic split level home.
      Its great that you love it, Im just saying that the math really doesnt balance for 99% of people.

    • @mrscopeland1
      @mrscopeland1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@miket2646 thanks Mike. Not everyone wants a 20-30 year mortgage. I also worked in real estate so I understand the issues. But the reality is that I own my home free and clear. My land is all I owe on now. I won't be paying it off for the next twenty years. I didn't want to pay 200-400k in my area for an older home that needed a ton of repairs or was a fixer upper or was an attached home. Housing in our area is ridiculous! This was 27k for a brand new home and 16k for our land. I don't view equity in this as an issue at all...as I don't intend to sell. I feel most tiny dwellers don't build these to make money like a traditional home. Which is a difference. We invest our money in our savings and have cash on hand for our needs and don't depend on the housing market to make money.
      Also, just to be clear.. We were not interested in a larger home. In fact if I had to do it again I would probably build smaller. I didn't want the big house, the big expenses or to spend my time cleaning and caring for a large home. This is hard for non tiny dwellers to sometimes understand..but gaining more Sq ft for me was not a goal. I wanted less...less stuff,.. Less space and less expense. This meets our needs wonderfully. It is actually a large growing movement and there are many that are living tiny. I understand it is not for everyone..but please understand..it wasn't for any of the reasons you mentioned for us.
      There are trade offs in everything. I know many many people who live tiny and love it. While it is not for everyone.. It was the best decision I have ever made 🥰

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@miket2646 Actually, all houses depreciate over time. It's why houses need to be remodeled and renovated every now and then, especially before they're sold. So it's actually just the land that can appreciate but not always as it's tied to the local economy, which won't always prosper. So the only benefit of traditional houses is they're tied to the land but that also comes with additional costs because that increases your property taxes, it means paying more for utilities, larger homes require more furnishings and other costs that have to be maintained over the long term.
      The average home owner, nationally, is paying over $9000 on just maintenance and basic home owners costs annually. So even not factoring a mortgage, most home owners are actually spending up to multiple times the original purchase cost of the home on all the long term costs.
      There's also the difference of building new, as that's an additional cost that doesn't always get passed on to future owners of the property but if you want a new and even custom built home it's something that is going to be added. So you can be paying a much higher premium for a traditional house on foundation when it's a new development that can go well above what the medium housing price is in the area for existing homes.
      Besides, the comparison by cost per sq ft doesn't work because cost per sq ft doesn't scale linearly. Seriously, you're not building a large house with 9-11 windows, a kitchen and bathroom, bedroom and living room, into every 200 Sq Ft of it... Nor are you getting them all new and the majority of them custom built as is the case with most tiny houses.
      Large houses custom built start 50% higher in costs and go upwards to over 4 times as much, for apples to apples comparison. But the majority of traditional houses are tract homes, mass produced houses built to generic standards that may or may not exceed the minimum code requirements, which force people to adapt to whatever they can find in the market instead of having a home optimized for them... Among other issues, like not being built to standards people can care about like sustainability, ensuring it's a healthy home and not full of chemicals and other toxins, actually meets their needs without needing costly remodeling, or having to deal with HOA's and other ways home owners rights and be limited and face additional costs.
      Even people who can afford expensive homes are starting to opt for alternatives like tiny houses because the traditional housing market is failing an ever increasing percentage of the population...
      Besides, examples like the housing bubble crash taught many a lesson that the traditional housing market is not always a good investment and really only makes sense for banks and those in the real estate market to view it that way... Along with there arguably being more important things in life for many people to focus on instead that will have a bigger impact on their life...

      @miket2646 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZeoCyberG Not sure where to even begin. So much of what you said is absolutely wrong.
      The housing market itself swells in value like the stock market and the vast majority of homes are sold for more than they were purchased, over and over again.
      Go look at any reasonably healthy counties sales records online.
      Just the land is worth it? Not the house?? Really??? Do you not realize that most houses last 80-100 years? Less than 5% of home purchases are tear-downs, so no... its not just about the land.
      The property tax is a cost no matter what and of course it does come out of your increase in value at the end of the day but most people still come out ahead.
      $9000 a year in maintenance? You're absolutely nuts. I bought a brand new AC unit AND blower with full installation and it was $4500. Thats the only money in repairs for the last 7 years for me and i'll likely get 20 years use out of those units.
      For landscaping, my mower was $400 and Im on year 11 for that. Costs about $1.50 in gas to mow my lawn each week. No downed trees in 16 years to deal with.
      Unfortunately, tiny houses are like the smart car. Was a great idea until you realize that its half the car with half the utility at basically the same price.
      Hopefully we get to a point where the costs come down and make it a sensible choice for more people, but until then... plenty of very affordable houses out there.
