- The Volkswagen Polo is one of our favourite city cars, and there's a whole new generation of Polo in 2018. The Polo has grown closer to the Golf in size, it has a new interior, and punchy three-cylinder TSI engines. Tom heads to South Australia to check it out for the first time.
What do you think of the Polo? Are three cylinders enough? Is it too big? Do you hate DSG? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

I have just Bought a 2018 Beats polo red I absolutely love this car
Maybe the best review of this car on YT.
Thanks! That's kind!
Very impressive small car. My only disappointment is the removal of cushioning on the rear seat door arm rests. Not very nice that it’s hard plastic now. Given the previous gen car was so good the two best cars in the class are now the new polo and previous gen car.
Good summation I think. Yes, it seems unnecessarily cheap to remove that little bit of padding for back seat passengers.
Nice to see the Polo is finally following in the footsteps of the Golf. I had a GTI a few years ago and ownership was a disappointment.
Only thing I'm not sold on with the new gen is the colour, love a fizzy little 3-cyl, looking forward to driving one. Good review lads!
Thanks Ash. The triple is a real delight. Pairs well to the DSG but the manuals are fun. No 85TSI six-speeds until around midyear sadly, but the 70TSI five-speed is a really good thing.
Excellent Review Tom. Like your style and the balance of technical, practical and emotional aspects coming along with a decision for a new car. Keep on!
Thanks a lot for the feedback, Olaf. Glad you’re enjoying our videos.
I have the beats version, and l get 4.3 ltrs on average going to work!
Not bad at all!
Great review Tom. Interesting to see the test of the 3 cylinder with dsg box. Looks a great city car.
The 1.0 TSI works really well with the DSG. Better than most of the four-cylinders actually!
Pure math: 3 cylinders are 120degree apart => minimum waste of energy.
Add clutch to it and all bikies look at you, as they use the same.
(BTW this is how awesome Nikola Tesla had invented AC system that we ALL use today: 3 el. phases shifted for 120 degrees in order to make up to 360 degrees + the application of the mighty calculus to its sinus and cos-inus functions and voila! ).
So simple, so smart, so elegant.
GTI version should be great to review
Totally. Can’t wait to drive the Polo GTI - we expect to get it around August in Australia
Volkswagen when are you going to launch this generation model in India?
Mate. Your videos are informative and really helpful the the everyday aussie driver. Just subscribed & keep up the Lords work!
Thansk Shaun, will do!
Great car !
Hey Tom, awesome review mate 👍🏻. Love that VW Aus have made that steering wheel and infotainment system standard across the range. I’m in the market for a new hatch between $25k-$30k. What would be your top picks? Cheers mate
Thanks a lot Dave. Much appreciated. On your question, I'd be looking at the Golf Comfortline, the i30 SR, or a Peugeot 308 Allure. All quality picks in that price range.
I was awaiting your Polo review, thanks. Tempting but made in South Africa is still a question mark as opposed to the made in Germany Golf.
No problem. I think it's okay - South Africa have been pumping out cars of a good standard for a while. All our W205 C-Class sedans are from SA now, and so have our 3 Series sedans, although BMW are moving 3er production back to Germany because the X3 plant moves to SA… yadda yadda.
Lot's of appreciation to you from INDIA
Thank you!
Tom, love them shoes bro!
Thanks man!
I don't understand why it doesn't have back seat air vents
nice review mate...thanks!
Great review, mate.
Great review.

How’s the headroom in the back? At 6’0”, it’s important to be certain! However, a nice video. Thanks!

Got one of those, do you like it?
Quartz
Mine is Quartz but the one the reviewer is wearing is an Automatic mechanical one. I also have an Omega Speedmaster moonwatch which is hand wind mechanical.
I had no idea Aussies say polo like that 😂😂
Benjamin Batchelor how do you say polo?
gde1989 like “poh” “low” he says it like “poll” “oh”
Wen it Ll launch in India
What is its length
Firstly - You should have more followers - Your vids are great. @2nd, have you done a POLO GTI review yet?
Why do they still have halogen lights?
Good question. R-Line will intro the LED headlights later in the year
Led is optional on the comfort line and highline models comes standard on the beats and gti version.
3.13 another one of those funny number sticks

Indonesia polo imported from India. Hope this polo comes here, to replace my Fiesta.
Jazz dashboard
Similar look but the screen is so much better
It looks 10 years old. At least the interior is fresh.
That’s Volkswagen. Evolutionary styling, not revolutionary.
meanwhile land rover uses the same non design in all their cars for GENERATIONS and no one cares.
