Marcelo Garcia: Jumping on the Back

4 Part Lesson -- Marcelo safely jumps for Back Control: If your opponent isn't holding your hands when you are locked around their waist behind them, jump up onto their back and fasten the Seat-Belt to get closer to the submission. If your opponent is holding onto your hands while you hold the Back-Body-Lock, bump them forward and/or drag their hips backward to off-balance them and force them to let go of your hands. [04:06] Jump and land your chest flush against your opponent's upper back, placing your head next to theirs but not over top of it. You may apply a Gable-Grip when holding the Back-Body-Lock, but only use the Ball-n-Socket Grip for holding the Seat-Belt Control after you've jumped. If your opponent isn't letting go of your hands from the initial off-balance, use your leg to trip your opponent onto All-Fours. Jump square onto their back and stick the landing before they can take their posts away and find your hands. [11:19] If your opponent is defending the space around their hips from your Back-Hooks when on All-Fours, bump them forward to open up some room before you try to jump for the Seat-Belt and Back-Mount. [16:11] You cannot sit forward, hang your weight, or sit on the side of your opponent's leg when holding the Back-Body-Lock without the risk of seriously injuring your training partner; if you are on the receiving end of this position, it is best to not rely on simply trusting your opponent or partner to know not to do this to you. Instead, walk your feet out and sit down on an invisible chair while your opponent holds the Back-Body-Lock to ensure your legs are out of range for the accident. The same idea also applies to Burials and the Head-Outisde-Single; don't do them to anyone, and don't put yourself at risk.
