This drama is so imperfectly perfect. Not all the actors were experienced yet they gave justice to the roles. The plot was so simple yet beautiful. It made me realize that even the simple lives of 5 families can be so interesting. The ending was perfect. To be honest, i was rooting for Junghwan and Deoksun at first, i was really disappointed to find out that Taek was the husband but when I watched the part where Junghwan hesitated to go to the concert, I thouht that Taek actually deserves being the husband. The ending was somehow unsatisfying yet it was perfect. It was one of those endings which you won't want to watch because you don't want to end the drama. Lastly, the osts were perfect. Whenever I hear the osts being played, I would watch the first episode or the clips again. They were so nostalgic. This is one of the best dramas I've watched.
ABSOLUTELY AGREE! i always wanted and been told to watch this drama but i kept avoiding it untill i sat down and watched it last week. it's one of the dramas that makes me want to meet the writer and the director and thank them sincerly. everything is too put together even the camera angles ! it gotta be my favorite modern drama. i loved the 18th episode so much , i was so happy when when he confessed (despite not being the future husband) , also his ''voice off'' when he was talking about how fate missed him ahh too good . on top of that he becomes a combat pilot which reflects his youth (at least that's how i analyze it).
I also love Borawoo couple. They are so perfect together.
You are absolutely right. This drama has realised me how small incident of life can make us happy. The beauty of life can be invisible untill it become a memory to us. This song remind me of my previous neighborhood a few years ago. This song is sad but satisfy our mind. Totally unique drama. ❤️ from B. D
I literally cried at the ending, not really because Taek and Deok sun ended up together(I still don't like that,) but because it made me so sad that the once noisy neighborhood was now completely demolished and new buildings now being built. Everybody got old and moved away, I literally bawled my eyes out at the end. Also why does Kim chang wan( the elderly singer) look like so much older since my love from the star. His appearance just made me sadder.
It's raw emotion devoid of fakery made Reply 1988 my favourite series. Even the makeup is very realistic. You can see the skin imperfections like open pores. Very relatable in a lot of ways. Even the table manners and fights by Bo-ra and DS are similar to real life.
It's been 5 years and i'm still not over how Deoksun and Junghwan were never "together" due to the wrong time, wrong moments. And sometimes, that's how life is. There might be someone that is perfect for you, but just not in the moment. As a result, we never end up with them!

Its not because of timing because junghwan himself said that. He said that it was never timing in the first place but that Taek needed her more. When she was stood up in the concert junghwan hesitated at first whereas as Taek just left his game even though he never done that ever before but he did it for deoksun. I love Jong pal and his character so much even more than Taek's but I still believe that Taek deserved doeksun more because he really need her to function!!!

Try Prison diary. It’s is a bit slow to begin with, but persevere on, the characters are worth it! Or another worthy one, in my opinion is Misaeng. It is very good indeed. Let me know if you feel the same ;-)) afterwards.
One of the best drama I have ever seen. Life is really mysterious but at the end you will be a happy person looking at the past. I want to thank the scrip writer. Such a marvelous story.

I personally believe that serie or movie is an art. Just like any other kind of arts, each piece is open for interpretation from each viewer. Different people will get the messages differently. But, I would like to share some of the messages that I've got here. Please feel free to add yours.
1. Love is not only for the young, but also for the old
Please! I beg you to take a closer look at how the parents can love each other on every difficulties they are facing. They keep coming back to each other even though it looks like hatred always appears.
2. Love does depend luck, but sacrifice and dedication are far more important
Even though this is so obvious if we look at Daek-Sun and Taek's love story, this message is even emphazised more by Bora's love story on how they have to convince their parents, how Bora believes in that "one percent" to re-meet Sun-Woo once again. Also this might be forgotten, but Jung-Bong's love story also emphazises this message.
3. No matter how close people are, they always have their own secret
I think it is pretty clear how we can see Jung-hwan keeping his feeling secret even to their best friends, how Daek-sun's father keep his feeling to Mi-ran couple and everyone about forced resignation, how Jung-hwan lied about pink shirt gift, how Sun-woo's mother tried to work without his son knowing.
4. Grades are important, but success can be achieved in many other ways
I won't need to elaborate this too much. You can always reflect on every character's journey. Daek-sun with her sincerity. Dong-ryong with his kindness and wisdom. Jung-bong's passion. Taek's and Na-eul's talent.
5. Youth does not last forever, but the memories will
I think this serie simply wants to imply the importance of having good story when we are still young. Friendships, romantic relationships, families, and not worrying too much about the future.
6. Kids will grow on how parents raise them
Kindness of Daek-sun's caring to their family, Sun-woo's maturity, Jung-hwan and Jung-bong's feelings about this father (when as kids they met his father delivering Jjangmyeong), Taek's ability to express his feelings, Dong-ryong's life philosophy thst he learned practically from his not-so-close family.
7. Money is not the only way to happiness, but will solve A LOT of problems
8. Last one, but definitely my favourite. All men are only strong on the outside, while all women are only weak on the outside

also, there’s this chinese saying, 远亲不如近邻. it means relatives who are far away are not as helpful as your neighbours. i think this drama properly depicts well this saying :)

When they kiss for the second time on china and he turn out to be taek I was so mad and very disappointed that made me throw a very hard punch in my bed due to anger..........that's where the level of drama was made and had taken me that very deeply that I showed my anger beyond the screen. But that's the reality if u hide your feelings from your crush knowing that will hurt u later will surely hurt even more. But taek was open and didn't hide it anymore.
And the ending was so damn perfect that took me to my 80's that I never had😂😂 daebak!!!!

Taek was being so open of his feeling towards Deoksun, which is why i am on his side from the beginning. I feel sad for Junghwan, but he should've known better than anyone not to confused Deoksun as she just got broken hearted by Sunwoo before. At some point, of course she would just give up on figuring Junghwan's feeling towards her

This is the perfect drama because it portrays life as it is. No grand scheme. No fancy plot twist. Shows average people's struggles and triumphs. Their mundane life in it's full glory. What make our lives fulfilling is not the extraordinary but the ordinary things that give us joy and hope. Thank you the writers and the actors who brought this amazing series alive!
Even after 6 years, I am here again. I just finished watching this amazing series for the 4th time. For me, watching this series is like chatting with an old friend. A series that never loses its influence on me. I am opening this series when I cannot share with anyone what I feel inside when I want to understand the value of my youth. It felt like medicine at a time when I lost myself again and couldn't cope with my emotions. it's like I was in Taek's room as the 6th friend. Whenever I remember their friendship and family ties, I feel warm inside. I remember the old days that I can never go back to. I don't think words are enough to describe the value of this series for me. You will always remain my favorite TV show. Maybe I will watch you again at a different time of my life when I want to talk to an old friend...
Lastly, appreciate your youth, my friends. We do not know what will happen to us in a few minutes. we will never have a chance to go back to these times again. maybe we are having a hard time right now and nothing is going the way we want. but it will pass. We have to be happy.. we owe it to ourselves :)

I had started watching out of boredom and unintentionally made one of the best decisions I’ve made because it was such a great time to start this show for me.
I am 17 years old, just like the characters in the first episode. Their friendship, family relationships, love and respect for each other has taught me a lot. Every character feels like a friend or family member who I’ve never actually met.
I’m glad to select Reply 1988 that day when I felt like watching something “fun.” and I will always carry the memories they made in that street, embracing the way their lives effected mine. :)
I have never thought that the drama will be so sad. It wasn't every time happy, but i really have never thought it will end so sad, so I cried so much...
I just finished watching all the Reply series, with Reply 1988 among them. I really have to say some things, because I can't stand the feelings that the last episode of Reply 1988 gave me. I loved this song since the first time I heard it. To be honest, I was really happy that she ended up with Taek. The ending though, made me so so so sad.. I was so sad I couldn't even cry. I was at a loss of words. This series made me undestand how important is our youth, and how precious is every second of our young life. In the end, when it all went back in Taek's room, I was so devastated.. I was sad because it was like bringing back memories that couldn't be relived.. I think that changing the actors into older for the 2016 scenes had a real impact on me, because in the other Reply series the actors were the same. The other thing that made me even more devastated is the fact that Reply 1988 is based on a true story, and after reading a few articles I found out that in reality, JH died... They wanted to kill him in the series too, but many fans were opposed to it, so the writer changed the script... Generally, I really recommend this beautiful series to everyone, because it's so much worth it!!

The last scenes of this drama when they show the abandoned houses and Doek Sun imagines her friends there made me cry harder than any Kdrama did before. I know people always talk about the husband mystery and personally I would have also preferred Jung Hwan but for me, the romance plot of this drama wasn't that important or exciting. I'm in my 30s so this drama took me back to my own childhood and back to the time my father was still alive and life seemed so much more promising and beautiful than it ended up to be. It took me back to the feeling of youth and how infinite life seems when you're young, but before you know it, it's all over. Reply 1988 will always be one of the most perfect dramas in my eyes. It's about the importance of little lives and little gestures and little moments that make us go in unexpected directions. It's about ordinary people living their ordinary lives, and these lives doesn't seem interesting from the outside but they are full of those special moments that make us grateful for being alive. None of these characters end up doing anything huge or change the world in any way, but their lives are full of meaning and beauty because they love each other and they are being loved. In the end, that's all that matters.
