Big Iced Up Beaver Dam Removal. Lots Of Water & Ice Released

- Finally, the first one of 2024. It was a bit early to start but we had some heavy rain due the next day. With water already so close to the road, it was time to let some go before it became an immediate problem to local residents. The ice was still so thick I could walk on it....and float a bit.

Gene, you should ask people at the beginning of your videos to like and subscribe, so many people are enjoying your videos. There's no harm in mentioning it and growing your platform.
Thanks, Donna.
You are right, I should start. It just feels weird, lol. I will get there. 😆
Surf's up. Made me smile. Keep up the excellent work
Thanks, Charles.
🏄♂️🤙
Beautiful work. You are quiet, and allow the viewer to live the experience with you. Very relaxing. Thank you
Thanks, Ralph.
Much appreciated.
Wow! Your wrangling those frozen bits was crazy! One of the best dam bustings I've seen you do!!
Thanks, Southern Bisquits!
It was fun.

So here in the UK we have not had beavers. But last year we had baby beavers born. The last beavers here was 44 yrs ago . as there was babys born here last year.
That's great Cheryl.
They are the best! I couldn't imagine what it would look like around here without them.

Thanks, Anita!
Much appreciated.

Great job on this one,..
Thanks, Della. 🙏
It was a long winter. I was so happy to be out there again.
A great dismantling and clearing of the area. A massive water flow is the result of it. Really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for the time and effort, Gene. The bottom line is the success. See you on the next, Gene! 😊
Thanks, Martin.
It's all about the effort in life.

This was a another great video, so much fun watching you playing at ice surfing. I don't know how you stand in that icy water for the length of time you do. BRRR. lol
Thanks, Donna!
The waders I wear keep me dry, so it's not too bad. If they leak, it gets cold in a hurry. 🥶 When it comes to my hands, I am lucky for sure. I work in the freezing water all the time.
I trust you retrieved the empty soda bottle and packed it out!!!
He's really good about packing stuff out, even if you don't always see him do it on the video.
Hi Larry, 👋
You know I took with me, 😆.
🗑 🚮
Now that was a formidable start to the season! I don't have any idea how you can wade around in ice water, but it did look fun to ice surf! Looking forward to the next. Hope you have a great weekend, Gene! 🎉
Hi Terri, 👋
It sure was.
It's all about wearing the right gear and moving around a lot, lol. 🥶 ☃️ 🧊
It was fun....I would like to go actual surfing one day. Perhaps somewhere a bit warmer, 😆.
Thanks, same to you.

Good work gene, thats great job ,take care ,god bless ❤❤❤

Thanks, Mark.

What a monumental job you have done. It exhausted me just watching you. 👍👍😊
Thanks, John.
It was a good start for the year.

Wow fantastic as the water pressure ever taken you down i love what you get up to out there in the wilds if i lived by you i would go with you take care Gene your so good at this 😅
Hey Mark. Thanks.
Not yet, lol. 🏊♂️ I am sure it's only a matter of time until I get washed away. It should make an entertaining video, 😆.
Try asking around. Someone will know someone with beavers you can go mess with. 🦫 🦫.
Great Video Thank you for leaving the ice until it collapsed! I would subscribe but I don't like it when you drown the Beavers in a trap!
Hi Peter, thanks.
I understand. It is definatly a big part of what I do. Poor 🦫 's. There is just no other options here. It's actually illegal to move them. We have 1000's of them all over.
You playing with those ice floe made me think of the days that we as kids broke up an entire pond, kicking the ice in big pieces and then make 2 teams and race over the ice floes to the other side!
It's a game that is not without real danger. In my youth, it has cost lives, but it just was that time that every kid was on the melting ice... everybody was always outside because we were sick of staying indoors at school and needed to get rid of energy
I truly had a big laugh when you were trying to glide down on top of the ice!
Not everything is all work. Mix it up with some fun time, and it suddenly ends up not such a drag and the 'only work' feeling 👍
I was also shocked at how thick the ice was!
My hat off for demolishing a frozen dam, it is always a bit daunting in the beginning, hacking at that solid soil!
But well done! And, great times 😄👍😎👊
Edit, I read that you like to surf? Is that waves or windsurfing?
I grew up windsurfing and sailing, both sailboat and catamaran, and competition swimming... watersports fan over here, lol 😄
Thank you, mademoisellekaya. 🙏
I would likely still try that game if there were some crazies willing to do it me, haha. These days, someone would call the police 🚔, 😆. Times sure have changed.
I spent so much time outdoors as a kid. As a young adult, I lost that with school, work, life, etc. I have been at this now for almost 10 years. I am so so happy to have found this and to be able to spend as much time out there as I do. I can't imagine where I would be without finding this way of living.
I was going to try to make it down on the ice, but it kept breaking up when it passed over the dam! 🏄♂️ I will try again next year. Most of the ice is pretty thin now.
I have never tried surfing before, wind or water. It is something I want to do one day, though. Anything close to flying. 🤙 windsurfing must be wild. I watch videos of it all the time.
Good job
Thank you, much appreciated 🙏.
loved to see your snowboarding processes LOLOLOLOL|!!!!!!
I will do better next spring, 🤙. Haha.
🏄♂️
@@geneplumley4136 🤣 what a shame, wont be laughing...
Boys will always be boys and this time it was ice jumping 😂🤣🤣
Hi Anita, 👋.
So true, 👍. Lol 🏄♂️
You need to make a part two of this one
I will.
It's already filmed, actually. I just need to do the editing. It was built right back up.
I am sure people know what to do by now I am glad that you know everything
Hey Toni, 👋
Thanks.
Super Men!!!
😆
Not quite, lol. I will agree to above average! Haha.
Thanks for watching! 👍
🦫 💥 🌊 🌊 🌊
Kenislovas up in Lithuania seems to be on a kick of undermining the back of the beaver dam so it will collapse. He is right up underneath tons of water so he better judge right.
He sure has. I watch @Kenislovas as well. I used to do that with my son back before I began recording. It's pretty fun when it goes. If I find the right dam where I don't have to worry about downstream, I will make one collapse.
🦫 🦫 🦫 😆@@marieclaudeetcheverry3067
HI I BET YOU COULDN'T WAIT FOR THE VIDIO TO FINISH SO YOU COULD BREAK SOME MORE ICE , YOU JUST COULD NOT KEEP YOUR EYES OF IT ALL THROUGH THE VIDIO, FANTASTIC JOB REALY ENJOYED WATCHING FANTASTIC JOB BEST I HAVE SEEN. FROM CAROL IN QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA.⛄
Haha, you're right! I was hoping more would break apart, but it was still quite thick.
Thank you, much appreciated 👏.

Thanks!
I will try to make it past the dam next spring!! 🏄♂️
I enjoy watching breaking up of the beaver dams from your videos and Kenislovas. Too bad you two could not make a few videos working together. Yes, I know two different countries. 😊
Hi Sondra, 👋
Thanks!
Yes, that would be fun. Maybe Kenislovas will take a vacation to Canada sometime??? We can go bust some beaver dams together. 💪
❤❤❤❤
🙏
Ive never saw a wall of beaver dam before that was amazing 😮
Hi Nette, 👋
There are some pretty big ones out there. I will get out to a couple this year that are huge.
Gene are the bevers under the ice for got to ask nice one mate 😅
Yes, there are 2 other dams upstream where they are living. I will be going to go see them once the ice is gone.
HAHA! I think you just invented a new sport. Ice surfing 😂 I had a blast watching you 😅
Have a great day 😊
Thanks, Dee. 🙏

@@geneplumley4136 you are very welcome. My pleasure 😉😁
New to channel. Nice to meet you all. Just a small observation could you pls move camera closer next time .it's to Faraway
Hi Cheryl, 👋
Welcome.
You bet! I will have it closer next time. It was hard to find a spot because the ground was frozen everywhere. 🥶. I had it zoomed in a bit but when the camera went to sleep waiting for me, it zoomed back out and I didn't notice, 🤦.
@@geneplumley4136 it is fine Ty 4 the reply.
HELLO GENE ITS GOOD TOO SEE YOU AGAIN, YOU MUST BE FROZEN BY NOW. I WOULD NOT WORK YOUR JOB IAM TO OLD AND THE COLD IS BAD FOR MY OLD BONES.
Hi George, 👋
Yes, 🥶. You must be built for the cold to do this job. 💪
Thanks, take care and stay warm.
❤❤🎉🎉😊😊❤❤
Thank you, 🙏
Should you be doing this at this time of year? All other beaver dam removers I watch say it will kill any beavers if there is an active lodge.
Hi Clive.
Yes, you are correct. It shouldn't be done in the winter.
I usually trap the beavers first, then pull the dam. Unfortunately, they have the water high enough that it is close to covering the road and it's not really safe to be walking on this ice. There are 2 more dams upstream, which is where they are living, so they should be good. Until I can get past the ice anyway. Then it's bad news for the poor 🦫 's.
You should of brought you ice pick with you
You're right. 🧊 🪓
Make a part two
I went back recently. 💪 I just need time to make the video. It was built right back up.
So 14 or 15 degrees being absolutely insane means it is Celsius. Farenheit would be just about right but little snow melt like he is talking. So much warmer.
Hey Paul.
Yes, Celsius. It should still be well below 0 here still. This has been a really welcomed mild winter.
Beavers will win.
Hi Robert, 👋
I am pretty sure I am going to win 💪 , lol. They are in for a tough time when the ice is gone.
Poor 🦫 's. 😬
It looks like the Ice Tpooing is ausing a Vacuum on the water causing a downstream pressure buildup which may cause the whole visible area to collapse at once when the Refill is less than the downstream losses
Hi Ripley, 👋
The camera couldn't pick it up but all I could hear was cracking and banging all around. The weight of the ice pushing down on the water definatly added some pressure. I haven't been back yet but we had a big rain fall that evening. It should be interesting to see what happened.
I had a place do what you described last year. It collapsed overnight when I wasn't there. I got putures the next day. It was pretty neat to see.
Personal qustion, do you get paid for these removals? I hope so!
Hi Natalie, 👋
I sure do. I am very lucky and grateful to be able to work outdoors like this. I get commissioned by our municipality to remove the dams and beavers. It's me or an excavator, and I'm cheaper, 😆 💪.
Yay!!!
❤❤❤❤L
Hi, Sandra. 👋
Hi were the beavers located
Hi Steve.
They sure were. I went back in the spring to kick some beaver butt. 🦫
I just have to edit the video.
@@geneplumley4136 nice one had a good laugh at the ice riding 🏴
@@steverobertson791 I will do better next year, lol 🏄♂️. I will get out there when it's a bit thicker.
You just condemned the beavers. They will not survive and will starve.
I'm pretty sure they will be just fine for now. They are living 2 dams upstream. Now, once the ice is clear and I can get upstream. Then, they will be condemned for sure. 😬
Normally, they get trapped first, but it is unsafe for me to get to them currently. This had to be done because the water is close to overtaking the road and there was a big rainstorm due the same evening.
they dont surf like that in California
Hi Bob. 👋
No, no, they don't, lol. 🥶
It's on the bucket list! I have to go try one day. 🏄♂️
Hi man this is a great work thanks
Thank you, onmyway!
It was a good start for spring.
