    If you've eaten low fat for years, incorporating more fat will probably help you feel better. Maybe try avocados, nuts, and seeds instead of killing animals for your food.

      same !!! i was fully vegan for a very long time but i have chrons and ibs symtoms and its hard for me to have lots of fiber sometimes. i have to limit beans which results in not getting as much protein :/ so i do have eggs sometimes and also more tofu since tofu has much less fiber. i noticed i get a lot less irritation if i have lots of smoothies for my fruits rather that eating it all whole, maybe cause the fiber is softened

    It's strange that she "tried everything" but didn't talk about GI testing, including a colonoscopy. That was the second thing my GI tried after taking samples. I'm not even really mad when other people change their diet but don't misrepresent yourself when you don't even try adding fat and eating more calories.
    And some of the best advice I've ever gotten from a celebrity was from Dita Von Teese who once said the best doctor is the one that takes your health insurance.

    • @scarletsletter4466
      @scarletsletter4466 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Exactly 💯! Anyone who claims to have severe chronic GI illness yet hasn't gotten a colonoscopy certainly hasn't "tried everything" & I'm skeptical that they're even diagnosed. That is the first diagnostic tool that is used. These ex-vegans will all eat meat prior to undergoing the slightest discomfort themselves, eg a colonoscopy. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @margauxstanitsas927
      @margauxstanitsas927 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It’s not really the “first” diagnostic tool for lower GI issues. For young people, doctors do not order a colonoscopy as the first line. It’s US, labs, sample tests, and ultimately diet that is the first line. For better or for worse but it makes sense to the dr (and insurance) to try the less invasive factors. Even if you’re seeking a colonoscopy, getting a dr to get on board as well as insurance if you’re young isn’t the easiest thing.

      The fact that she went to "all these gastros" is at least a yellow flag. Sure, you can happen upon a doctor you don´t mesh with. Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion even when you do. But "all these gastros" suggests at least four. And after four gastroenterologists it´s highly unlikely not one suggested reducing her fiber intake (and probably adding more calories, given how emaciated she (still) looks).

      I’ve had ibs for the past 10 years. I went to 4 doctors before settling with the fifth so it doesn’t surprise me. None of the first four doctors said anything about diet. One of them had me do a gastroscopy which made sense but other than that they all kept giving me random pills that did nothing and telling me to go to a psychiatrist since it’s all in my head apparently.
      Fifth doctor made me do a colonoscopy, but as someone else before me said they don’t usually prescribe it to young people. All of them said they didn’t really wanna put me through it, as this whole thing started when I was 17, but I had it done so we could rule everything else out at the end.

      The reddit vegan sub recently promoted a blog post from a recent ex-vegan with an interesting timeline:
      1. She had health issues while being an omni, where I can't remember if she specified what those issues were.
      2. She went plant based, accidentally gluten-free because she thought gluten is not vegan. So she stopped eating bread and other gluten containing products.
      3. Her issues got a lot better on plant-based.
      4. After one year she started eating bread again because she found out that gluten IS vegan (doh!).
      5. Her issues worsened so much that she was admissioned to a hospital, I believe. Her family was like: "We told you from the start".
      6. She went omni again with a heavy heart because she really was a vegan for the animals. Continued with eating gluten. Her issues were still excruciating.
      7. She didn't make the connection of gluten reuptake and issues. But finally found out through elimination diet that it was gluten all along.
      7. She's now an even more committed vegan.
      I for myself am very lucky that my body doesn't seem to reject any plants. I seldomly have any gastro issues anymore since switching to plant based compared to before the switch. I think preparation and cooking is important, e.g. rinsing or soaking lentils, cooking them, using the water-replacement method with rice. Using higher heat resistant oils when frying and trying to prevent burning. I eat a lot of seeds like quinoa, hemp or flax and fruits raw though.
      Edit: Forgot the whole "going omni again" thing

    I think that "chose vegan" os always a better proposal than "go vegan". Because, maybe due to our religious background, people tend to identify veganism as a life commitment and this creates a lot of misunderstandings, shame and social pressure for a thing that is just about engaging however you can in a solution. This reinforces a pattern of discourse that is detrimental for the cause. Like instead of saying "I mostly eat vegetarian" people will say "oh, I once was vegan but now I eat fish".

    • @kass5000
      @kass5000 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it very simple. The less processed the better for your health. It's already common knowledge that the healthiest food is usually as unprocessed as possible. Sausages are very processed while pure meat with a little spice on top is unprocessed as little as possible. So the healthiest option is obviously tge second one. Vegans do claim they are healthy etc etc so imagine them processing stuff to such an extent and call it healthy as well... It actually sounds like nonsense.
      Edit: Also, aren't those mock meat meant to draw in more people to try being vegan?
      I hope you are aware that rhe more processed foods can heighten the chance of getting cancer so it's kind not looking good to promote vegan through food that increase your chances of getting cancer.
      It would be like you straight out spitting on the people while also telling them to be happy and thankful to get cancer.

      @Jonah Whale I very much doubt it's going to stay like this though. Just because there is none right now, doesn't equal there won't ever be evidence to suggest otherwise. Never forget that there was once a time where pregnant women were told by doctors to smoke as that was supposedly good for them.

    • @kass5000
      @kass5000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jonah Whale I didn't paint them to be equally bad, that was you. I brought an example of how there not existing right now doesn't equal that later there won't be. I never once said they are equally bad. Then again, who knows what they are actually putting there for them to taste like meat? They could be lying about some ingredients, you wouldn't know that.
      I personally think people in America should rather focus more on how much sugar they're consuming than put so much focus on how bad meat is. Sure American industry should change how they process it. Fat itself isn't actually bad especially if it is in colder environments. Plus I see a lot of vegans pretty much promoting the idea that the meat is poorly processed so whose to say the problem really wasn't always that? The reason why it's so unhealthy for people to consume it?
      I know my countries meat is pretty clean and hasn't made me feel sick. Our food in general is more on the fatter side because we live in a place where it can go over - 20°C.
      Not the best example plus Europe also has a more stricter view on allowed ingredients.
      For example McDonald's tastes fine but after consuming it I feel sick compared to the other burgers I have eaten. There are also Americans saying after being in Europe things tasted better and they felt more energized but after returning to America they felt sick again until they got used to it. Which kind of speaks for itself on how unhealthy even the supposed healthy food is. Perhaps vegans are just paying better attention on what they are eating and from where which is why they will end up picking healthier food in general.

      I genuinely believe it's a mistake to believe you are saving animals by being a vegan. Do you really believe that by being vegans we aren't hurting other animals? Deforesting to create more land to grow vegetables etc? No, we can't eat what we feed our cattle because they too need to eat. Do they need our care too? Yes of course they do so someone has to take care of them as well while gaining nothing from it. The land fertilizer will have to be only the chemical ones too - no animal poop anymore despite it being the most organic one. Do you genuinely believe that the medicine as in taking in vitamins not in the more traditional way, is not going to hurt your body in the long run? Perhaps we should both also look into what kind of waste is produced to make those vitamins? Probably not as environmentally friendly as they still need to package those things and they most likely have a standard too to fulfill. What about the colder places? How is such a diet even sustainable there? They can't grow their own crops as much as those warmer places? + they also need to produce even more to replace the meats fulfilling abilities. More Deforesting! It's not healthy to only eat plants. Did you know plants are poisonous too? Reason why I ended up with stomach burns when I ate too much on the vegan side. I still needed a fatty yogurt on the side to make the burn go away. It's not healthy and definitely not going to save any animals if you actually understand what you are asking for.
      Edit : do you also not realize you can over use land? They also need time to rejuvenate so we won't all end up starving because we decided to save our cattle at the price of forest animals and later maybe even eat them anyway because we were foolishly over using our land.

    • @kass5000
      @kass5000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jonah Whale did you straight out ignore the fact that you absolutely can't stop feeding those same animals we feed to kill later? They will depend on humans because they will need us to keep them healthy and fed. Which would also mean it needs to be done for free which is a big problem. Sheep need to be shaved so they don't suffocate in their own wool. There are animals who are more sensitive to the cold so they need to have shelter. Cows have to be milked otherwise they will get sick.
      I know soy can cause infertility and problems while pregnant. I drank that while pregnant and my baby stopped growing at the last month hence needed to come out of me quicker for his safety. I didn't know this and that was a very upsetting experience.
      Please never forget that despite your or anyone else's ego, we are animals as well. All we have is our higher intelligence and that's all that makes us different from them. Nothing else. It's kind of egotistical to even believe it's helping anyone while ignoring serious problems with such beliefs.

    The biggest problem with the vegan label is vegans. There are no shortage of vegans who will revoke your vegan card if you aren't 110% vegan.
    My diet isn't totally vegan. Due to disability and chronic illness I don't always have the energy to cook. I am poor. So in those situations I order a cheese pizza from Little Ceasars. Pizza is something I am almost always down to eat. So I opt for the less bad affordable option. I also operate in grey areas where I feel that I am not supporting the exploitation of sentient beings. Like buying stuff on clearance. Grocery stores have a very low profit margin. If something sells on clearance they aren't making money off of it. They are simply losing less money than if they just tossed it out. So I am not supporting the exploitation of sentient beings if buy animal products on clearance. It's hard to stay vegan. So I allow these things in my diet. Unfortunately mock meats aren't cheap. If I could afford to regularly buy them; things would be so much easier.
    One could argue that I am not actually vegan. But from an ethical standpoint I think I am. I define veganism as "Not supporting the exploitation of sentient beings to the extent that it is reasonable to do so". Which is basically a simplified version of the definition from the vegan society. There is certainly a debate to be had about whether buying animal products on clearance counts as supporting the exploitation of sentient beings; or whether it's reasonable to order a cheese pizza when I am out of spoons. But far too many vegans don't want to have this discussion and instead want to revoke your vegan card if you consume animal products at all. Never mind the fact that I am well aware that the pork I bought on clearance is the flesh of an intelligent sentient being. Something that made me uneasy and will probably result in me no longer buying animal flesh even in situations I think are ethical.
    All of this makes me not want to call myself a vegan even though my choices are based on animal ethics and I think in line with ethical veganism. On the other hand the label is useful to share with other people because it gives them a clear idea of what food they can give me. It avoids having to explain "my diet is mostly vegan but I make exceptions in these limited circumstances that I feel are in line with ethical veganism".
    Unfortunately the label issue isn't simple. Do we need a new label for people like me? I know I am not the only person opening in grey areas. Cheap Lazy Vegan did a video on grey areas like second hand leather.
    If anyone has any ideas for a label please let me know.

    • @veganforthem76
      @veganforthem76 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think you should be able to give yourself whatever label you see fit. There are tons of choices! Mostly vegan, 99% vegan, vegan except for pizza... 😂idk. I have been vegan for over three decades with no intentional slip ups (I'm pretty sure I must have accidentally use or consume animal products a bunch of times along the way) and I have no problem with people using the labels they see fit. Most of my extended family is vegan, with some vegetarians and a couple who call themselves 'mostly vegan vegetarians' (which basically means they are 100% vegan at home but more relaxed about it when they travel or eat out).

    I disagree about bulking and cutting.
    The reality is that it's very difficult to put on mass at maintenance calories or even with a small surplus. It'll take you 2-3 years of "leanbulking" to get the same results as 6-12 months of bulk/cut. It'll affect your strength gains too, which for me is a huge motivation -- stagnating numbers really suck.
    No need for a dirty/crazy bulk like this lady was allegedly advised, just go 500 calories above maintenance for 3-4 months, then 500 below maintenance for 2-3 months, rinse and repeat. If you gain/lose too quickly, adjust your calories.
    Of course, as you said, you've got to push yourself hard in the gym -- your body needs a use for the extra calories. Doubt this lady was doing this.

An elimination diet involves taking multiple foods out of your diet, followed by a period of reintroduction of these foods, in order to determine your personal food sensitivities. The most extensively studied elimination diet for IBS is the low FODMAP diet. FODMAP stands for Fermentable, Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols, and consists of groups of certain types of carbohydrates that are thought to trigger GI symptoms. The Low-FODMAP diet was conceived about 10 years ago about by Australian researchers and is the elimination diet thought to be most effective for treating IBS related symptoms.

    In my protocol, it has to be started with adaptation, roughly six months with minerals optimisation. Lack of Iodine may be the cause. Then until the iodine is optimised, selene and zinc, then cruciferous vegetables are out of the plate. Otherwise it’s sauerkraut.
    Legumes, are depending on the potassium status. Then good skills with herbs and spices.
    Plant based requires a rigorous study. The adaptation though, equals in both meat based and plant based. It’s the microbiome programming.
    No need to tell one’s diet isn’t good with any adaptation successfully done. If it’s not working, it’s not properly done.
    Perhaps, the personality thing could be key in food choice. I felt like a demon sitting on my shoulders when I ate beef. Heavy, stiff and frightening. Somewhere in the genetics, transporter of hormones must have something to do with it, other than microbiome.

    She apparently doesn't have a real digestive issue (cramping, pain, diarrhea, constipation), she has an aesthetic issue.
    Gas production in the gut is normal. We all fart around 15 x per day. After a more fibrous meal, we produce more gas. That has nothing to do with any disorder or food intolerance. She just doesn't like that it gives her a little belly.

      I also have inflammation issues. Gluten free, dairy free, sugar/sweetner free worked well for me. But I didn't see progress till one month very strict on this plan.

    She might have meant PRO-biotics instead of ANTI-biotics? They're different but she messes up her words earlier so it's a possibility. I'm not a doctor and she might have explained her symptoms in a way to a doctor that warranted the antibiotics. Idk.

    So am I perceiving correctly that she stopped being vegan because she felt like her already very thin body was holding onto belly fat, which was actually distention. Meaning she couldn't tell the difference between adipose tissue and the belly expanding from consuming food? And she went to her doctor about her perceived fat, which again, was on a very, very thin body? And then she now can't be vegan because she feels like getting rid of the small amount of bloating and she can't do that with plant foods? Is no one else feeling a little weird about this entire line of thinking? Being promoted? She's very thin. It doesn't seem that the bloating was painful or disrupting her life other than she wants to have a perfectly flat stomach all the time? So?? I'm 100% her body her choice, but it seems like she's struggling with some major diet culture pressure? That maybe should be more a priority?

    Yeah I have so much to say about this… lol but I agree with everything you are saying especially the antibiotic thing. I refuse to go on antibiotics unless I REALLY need to. The only times I’ve been on them recently (past couple years) were IV antibiotics twice for sepsis one time in which I had to have surgery bc of an abscess in my neck, twice for tooth infections, once for tooth extraction (had 6 teeth removed) and I had to do a month of doxycycline plus a few others for some stds I got while homeless (fun right) nothing permanent thank god. Other than that I haven’t let anyone put my on them bc I’ve been on enough the past couple years lol but my cousin has chronic limes and some other shit but I think most of her stuff is psychosomatic from what she’s told me but I’d never say that to her not bc I don’t want to but bc my mom won’t let me lmao. She said she can see the bacteria on her skin and has “breakouts” from bacteria like um ok but basically whenever she “feels bad” she goes in antibiotics and no wonder she has no immune system no joke and it drives me nuts bc like she’s not just hurting herself but like everyone but if I explain it to her she goes into a bunch of pseudoscience and you can’t argue with ppl like that bc they don’t care about facts it sucks lol maybe I’ll send her your videos. If I really need them I’ll take them but I’m not gonna do “preventative antibiotics” like “just incase” which I’ve deadass had doctors try and do before ugh
    She also expects the world to coddle her and her professors to just let her miss 80% of the classes and assignments bc she has a headache. Idk what she thinks a normal job will be just that def won’t be allowed. She would totally be the type to fall for the food combining bc she takes all these pseudoscientific vitamins and supplements like this one call boiron which is so obviously a scam that it’s funny. You should totally do a video on them bc when her and my aunt explained what it was I had to stop myself from inhaling my drink from laughing. She’s like “so they take a substance like an herb and then they dilute it, and then they dilute it again, and again, and again until there’s no detectable level of the substance in the supplement so it’s just the substances “essence” and then they make pills out of it and it’s totally safe bc it’s only the essence” I’m like yeah no shit a pill made out of absolutely nothing would be safe 😂😂 bc it’s literally nothing.

    People seem to be going to such extremes when it's about physical appearance, mainly focusing on it. It all seems to be such a privilege. I have been vegan for years (and vegetarian years prior to that), and guys, in the last couple of years I've been dealing with a bad health condition. I was diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) more than 2 years ago. When I got to the hospital and they asked about my diet, I said I was vegan. Doctors were kind of worried, but mostly because most of them are old school, and we have very limited food options here in Croatian hospitals. I spent all together a bit more than 4 months in the hospital - in isolated steryle units in the capital city of Croatia. I wasn't allowed to eat any fresh fruits/vegetables, any kind of nuts, or anything that could cause issues because of my low immune system. I would get chemo for 7 days a week, during the whole day. Even though you don't have any immunity at all, you get infusions, blood transfusions etc. They do all they can so you can get the chance to actually live again. In my case, I had to get a stem cell transplant (because otherwise I would have a relapse). Also, during all that time, I was not allowed to get any food from outside, except small packages of crackers, soy milk or small juices - like the ones for kids, and such things. But yet, somehow, I did stay vegan all along. I did my best at my weakest to find a way. My recovery has been going well since. I also had to be isolated for a long time after stem cell transplant, and to eat a certain way for a long time. I did get a lot of medicine and antibiotics that are not animal cruelty free, but I did not have much of a choice. I did what I could, and that's all that matters. There are always the ones that suffer more. I think it is all about motives that a person has in the beginning. I feel like it is important to find the best way that works for you, and others beings as well. Everything counts. Also, I do believe that the fact I wasn't eating any animal products actually helped me recover - because it's hard to eat heavy foods when you are sick from of all the medicine and chemo you get. That's the fact for a lot of people I met.
    Sending love to you all, and try to be more aware that we are the ones who know our limits, and what matters to us. Thinking about the size of your butt or such things may seem to be an issue, but it is really not the most important thing in the world, and will not do much for you nor others. Let's find more compassion and humanity instead of focusing on our appearance as much, to find a better quality of a life we have.
