    Those look like great quality units. For me, I find even 6000K is still too blue...I prefer 4200K to 5000K, which were hard to find, last I looked. Great video and content.

      Agreed! This is a good video but people go overboard on LEDs, especially if the headlights aren't xenon or LED from the factory or properly retrofitted then you have this weird hodgepodge of color combinations.

      @Randy Stegemann.....There's no way to get directly to the bulb since access is blocked by the core support. But if you simply unlatch & pull out the two rods, the whole headlight assembly practically falls out. On some Hondas you have to remove the whole damn bumper!

    Good informational video and your thoughts are 100% on the money. Do it right the first time. I've been using Sylvania ZEVO's in my BMW's and other cars for the past 6 years (both interior an exterior bulbs) and have yet to have one burn out. Best LED bulbs out there, IMHO. Aside from the lower power consumption and lower heat output, they also provide better light than the incandescent bulbs they replaced. The ZEVO's seem to fill the reflectors more fully with light, and they are instant on instead of the light ever so slightly ramping up like an incandescent bulb. Makes a noticeable improvement on bulbs like the brake and turn signals. They ARE more expensive than everything else, but are 100% worth it.

    3 things: 1. Jimmy, you're using the wrong bulbs for DRL. These 99-06 GM trucks need 4114 bulb (incandescent) for DRL, the problem is morons put in 3156/3157 which burns up the socket and sometimes even shorts/melts the wiring going to the DRL socket. The incandescent 4114 bulb is 12V 1.7W (0.14A), versus the 3157 (dual filament) is 8.3W (0.7A) and the single filament 3156 is 27W (2.25A). The wiring and socket is rated for 12W (1A) at most. Luckily automotive LEDs are low power (typically around 2W) so this is not an issue using 3156/3157 LEDs, but Sylvania does make the 4114 LED (in 2 styles) which is a direct replacement.
    2. For DRL in these GM trucks, you need to use 4114 or 3156 LEDs, not 3157. This is because 3156 is single filament, 3157 is dual filament, and installing the 3157 into a 3156/4114 socket can burn out the bulb/LED within seconds if installed backwards.
    3. With most companies these days is "lifetime warranty" means lifetime of the product, once it dies the lifetime has ended and no support. I've had Sylvania and other companies say they see no record of the purchase, and some say they "lost most of the records" during a server upgrade as an excuse to not honor their warranty, and expect you to keep the receipt for proof of purchase.

    Zevo 3157
    Oxilam 3157

    The Oxilam was by far the brightest of the three, Zevo was the least bright. The Oxilam actually felt like the best quality of the three, though they all had aluminum heatsinks.

    I bought LED headlight bulbs for my Civic nearly 3 years ago. They're a cheap, $45 off brand made in China, but they came with a beefy aluminum heatsink and fan on each light. They've lasted this entire time, and they're super bright and create a clean line across the road in front of me. Best $45 I've ever spent. I got "Yorkim Super Bright 1157 LED Bulbs Amber" for my turn signals, and "Marsauto 9006/HB4 LED Bulbs with Fan, 16000LM 6500K Xenon White" for my headlights. They've lasted this long with no issues. Could be a fluke, I dunno. But I ain't questioning it. They're on Amazon, "Last purchased Jan 15, 2019."

    I have a 94’ Sub and kept having one of the left running tail lights/ blinker bulbs go out. The bulb was fine, but there is so much draw from the battery that the bulb contact-wires got so hot that they melted the bulb’s plastic base and became embedded in it, losing connection with socket-contacts. I swapped out every bulb inside and out for LEDs after that. Huge upgrade. It’s like having headlights in the back when reversing now. They use less juice, which will cheer up your alternator, and they don’t get nearly has hot. Except for the headlights, those do get h.o.t. I went with fanless, air-cooled bulbs for the headlightights, which are plenty bright, and used fanned-cooled bulbs for the highbeams. I figured if they’re getting hot enough to need fans then maybe they’ll be a tad brighter, and they faSURE were. I heard the fan-cooled bulbs can create a buzz in your sound system when they’re running, which I wasn’t too concerned about anyway because I am kind of in between sound systems at the moment, but they’re fine for the highbeams because they’re not always on, on purpose anyway. Bright as. Cheers mate

    Issue with the argument of the cheap led's is that they don't get hot. They aren't putting out enough light for the need of a ballast. If you get led headlights, that's really where the issue is. But if you just replace interior bulbs, drl's, blinkers, taillights, etc. They don't need to produce light that you need to light your path up at night like headlights. So that 10 pack of led lights that you showed, bought those and haven't replaced any so far except for the ones I used for my tailights, as they were so bright, they created a pink hue instead of red like I wanted. So I swapped them for the exact same bulb, only it was a red bulb instead of white, and it's perfect.

    True white is 4000K. Yellow tint of incandescent bulbs are 2000K to 3000K. The blue tint of natural daylight is 5000K to 5500K. So 6000K is beyond blue and headed towards ultra violet.

  • @Sugurain

    ZEVOs are okayish. They almost match the same brightness of a regular incandescent bulb.
    But it doesn't even come CLOSE to my Philips Xtreme-Vision LEDs, dunno if Philips still makes them, but they are, no kidding, twice as bright as my amber 1156 Zevos. They're twice the price, but they give twice the brightness, I'd recommend the Philips Xtreme line for older cars, with poorly designed tail lights.

    With the heat sink inside the housing itself I'm not sure how good they are. Would be better if they had an active fan or something outside to draw away the heat as well. Such as the SL1 from diode dynamics.. that's my preference but this is still probably a decent enough bulb

    • @1RoadGarage
      @1RoadGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I would never put a bulb in my car that had to use an active fan as a source of cooling. The fan could fail or produce some sort of electrical interference. And just be plain loud.

    • @FranklyFrankie94
      @FranklyFrankie94 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1RoadGarage that's a good point there. The fan you wouldn't be able to hear from inside the cabin but it is a failure point. Although the fins inside the housing are as well, but with that lifetime guarantee it's not an big worry. Still, you should look into the SL1's by diode dynamics. I'd be interested to watch a video with your thoughts on them

      Sounds like everyone has the wrong LED headlights. There are 4 companies that make LED headlights that are true replacements for halogen bulbs. GTR Lighting, S1, Stedi and one more i cant remember. They have all done the R&D that copy the beam pattern of halogen headlights. The rest scatter light everywhere else

      Any of their Sylvania bulbs. Even their higher dollar bulbs. They have a set of $60 bulbs, can't remember the model name off the top of my head, that burn out about every 10 months. Luckily they have a 1 year warranty on all their bulbs.
      They have another customer that warranties out his bulbs every 3 months like clock work.

      @@toddreynolds7837 If you are talking about the silverstar ultras they burn much hotter than the basic in order to get that much light. So yes they will burn out faster. If you want that my light or more and long life you need to go to LED or you will just keep replacing them. I tell everyone I see the ultras to they they have a 1 year warranty and will only last about 13 months under the average estimated use.
