    I am a deep believer of Jesus Christ and try to follow Him as much as I can. I really appreciate the practice of Santhara , especially considering how corrupt and manipulative our sinful human nature is. Humans are classified into two categories : carnivorous and herbivorous just like in animal kingdom. Carnivorous humans exploit and prey upon their fellow herbivorous brothers and sisters. I am going to fast unto death at some point ( now I am 42 ) , maybe in 60's and spare the consumption of resources to the next generation. I am having great life so far, knowing the truth of life. Respect from Texas.

    Jainism is the most scientific and socially positive religion. It is a religion evolved over ages based on learning of experienced philosophers. Your karma not just affect your next life but it will affect your present life itself. If some religion teaches you to be physically, mentally, socially and spiritualy healthy why does one has to rebel it

    • @Neelt2001
      @Neelt2001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Harsh jain Because what makes someone "spirituality healthy" is highly subjective. Even these sadhus are in a sort of a "comfort zone" if you think about. Ask them to live in a subzero environment or near a landfill where roads are litered with trash, glass, needles and what not. Or ask them to beg for food in an area which doesn't have Jains to give them the proper food which they can eat. Their lessons about peace, nonviolence & a dependency on materialistic things are very good. But to say that everyone should ideally implement a sadhu lifestyle is not right for everyone.

      You can check out Jain Vishva Bharati. Or the current Guru, Acharya Shri Mahashraman (you can google him) is visiting Bangalore (India) this summers, July - October. To be candid, its ver hard to get initiated into this monkhood. Its years of preparation and then a decision by the Acharya. But you can perhaps just visit these sadhus and follow them for some time. All the best for your journey of self discovery!

    What a wonderful, thought-provoking video! These revered monks live such a Spartan life that it is unimaginable for the average man. They possess so few things that everything a monk possesses can bet put in one small suitcase, except that a monk does not possess even a suitcase! No slippers, no tooth brushes, no soap, no bed, no pillows. Also, these monks eat only one meal a day, I think: a pure vegetarian diet.

      Thanks for your comment. The objective here is more to showcase the lifestyle - that its possible to live our lives, satisfied and happy, without being dependent on any material possession. It is an extreme but the other extreme is continuing to buy and accumulate or buy, use and throw. May be we can individually think about putting limits on consumption and deciding our own middle paths...

    • @lukasdohnal1229
      @lukasdohnal1229 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aren't they dependent on material possessions of others though? I mean, they eat food... That comes from somewhere, right? .. Other than that, I cannot really imagine that these guys could live the same way in northern Europe, for example. They'd freeze to death in winter.

    Really loved the video and very interesting. One thing I can said is the guy who created that movement 2500 years ago left a few things for the Monks to overcome at the end to reach enlightenment. If you notice they are saying to not be attached to anything. But they are attached to representing themselfs as man, or male. They speak indian, they are attached to that language. They are attached to india, a Nation State. Attached to that mounth peice thing. Once they notice that, enlightenment will happen. It is the final journey.

      Addl. clarification - they don't belong to a nation. In the sense that they don't carry any national id like a passport or a voter id or an Aadhaar number (India's biometric id). In fact, they even drop their birth name and instead adopt a new first name, without a second name or a surname.

These are called "vayu kaya" (vayu = air; kaya = body) beings. Speaking hurts or kills them and covering the mouth reduces that. So more than just about insects...

    I find it quite contradictory for Jain monks to live like this way. I mean gone are the days when this world was not this materialistic, however living like this in modern era is beyond any logic. For example walking barefoot a complete violation of their own principle of non killing of micro organism

    • @alokbard
      @alokbard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. Let me clarify through a few points: They wear slippers made from recycled tires and tubes for longer distances. But then, if you think about it, even if you wear slippers (or shoes), you may still kill some micro organisms as your foot will step on...the ground! More importantly, they walk with full awareness and keep an eye on the ground as well and make sure they don't step on any insect or visible life which may be crawling, etc. The constant endeavor is to walk around them (and not over them!)
      Finally, the idea of this video is not to say everyone needs to live like a monk - its not possible nor is practical, as you also point out. Rather it is to showcase that a mid path may be possible, where, instead of use, throw, buy again cycle or shop till you drop culture, you can limit your possessions (vs no limits). Only those who are deeply spiritually inclined (what is seen as 'from prior sanskaras' in Indian culture) and are totally detached from the world, take the path of Jain monkhood. Its neither easy nor is it meant for everyone...

      Cooking food kills microorganisms in fire
      They had no desire for food but for body work they eat very limited quantities of food
      The person who cook the food had done sins by killing microorganisms by fire that are present in the sky but if the food is pure and good according to jains principle he can gave that food to jain monks and giving foods to jains monk make him sinless and his karma become good and he will get no punishment for killing those microorganisms mistakenly

    There is a problem in that lifestile too.. they do no want attachememts... but they are VERY attached to their rules and beliefs... the founder of the religion would be very sad to see this. How they put exact messurements at how many squaremeters of clothes one is allowed to use etc. It is like having this rules instead of posessions... but the meaning of the religion is to become free, not only free of posessions, but free of rules from outside to finally find back to source and soul... the rules of life are within!

    • @rishabhtk
      @rishabhtk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there is no founder of this religion..... jainism is a way of life and not a religion. you can mould it in your way but the core is minimalistic life, ahimsa, anekantvada, vitragita and seeking for truth (rather than believing in some book) there is a digambara sect of jainism in which monks are skyclad so rule are just to limit possession.
      religion can never make you free, it binds you and make you blind enough to believe that path you are following is only true path.

      Before reading my comment further.. can you just think of one quality that separates humans from animals?
      Well the answer is 'self control'
      We as Jains like to live under some self created rules which we find can take our life in good direction and not let it go wild.. uncontrolled...
      Actually if we notice all of us live under some self controlled rules.. like you or me wearing clothes... The extent only differs

    • @nishanthjainn
      @nishanthjainn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your questions are natural but what you have seen and understood here is just a tip of iceberg . Animals have no rules and they stay where they are for millions of years only thing they develop is size , adapting environment , food etc . Here we humans as jains the foundation and principles ,rules are developed and based on calculations and understanding the requirements of a monk as per agam ( the sacred books ) which cannot be explained to everyone and neither everyone has the capability to understand ,
      So the main thing is they are told to do what is determined and calculated previously without raising a question , which again tests your devotion and faith on them who designed it.
      It's a very big very very big theory which cannot be explained it can only be experienced.
      While following the rules and developing your inner self you will reach a day where there will be no need to think why !!!
      Because that day you will not think , you will see , why !!!
      Thanks for watching the video.

      Sorry for not replying earlier. This is not plastic but they do put a white paint (varnish) on the outer cloth layer. This basically prevents the white cloth from getting dirty. The idea is to not waste water by washing these frequently...

    very illogical way to live - Contribute to the society by bringing change, education, intellect and increasing the human intellect. Rather than living in pre - historic times and retreating back in times when a small section of society would do take up this lifestyle.
    Converting kids in early age or even people below 30 also should not be allowed because ones intellect is not developed till then and do not have ample exposure to the world to make rational choices. It's fanaticism at its best.

    Walking and wandering brings nothing to the world. I am surprised that theae guys decided to clothe themselves like civilized people. So, they do things according to their likes. Instead of doing things that benefits nobody, why cant they do some sort of social work, or follow in the steps of Mother Therese. I think that is,too Christian. It does not bode well with walking naked, not showering, eating once a day, all of which benefits nobody.

      Estefanía I think the question was more from a perspective of helping the homeless, people who don't have money to eat, etc. An education in spirituality is fine, but it doesn't do much in terms of practicality.

    • @alokbard
      @alokbard  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This video is not about comparison between religions and which is superiour. The beauty of Jainism (and India spiritiual traditions) is that its more about a framework of living life. The core credo is also - to each his or her own path (Anekanta-vad). BTW, these sadhus and sadhvis (nuns) do help all people through things like teaching meditation to resolve stress, guiding, asking people to take strong vows e.g. being truthful, honest, avoiding intoxicants, etc. These are done when they travel through villages and towns and touch thousands of people throughout the country. Its particularly powerful in smaller town and villages where people still respect all religious figures and whichever caste or religion they are from, they take these vows as humans.

      what is the proof that allah created all this?
      The concept of universe in dharmic religion is completely different from abrahamic religion.
      according to jainism no one can help you, it is only you who can help you. there is no concept of superior being or god or allah.
      every soul when purified can break the bondage and reach nirvana. so every living being has a potential of being liberated.
