Tretinoin has a two-part benefit: Helping to reduce pigmentation and acne, and helping to slow the aging process/formation of wrinkles with continued use. Personally, I wouldn't stop using it just because my skin looked 'as good as it's going to get' after a year. Check out the ladies who have been using it for 5, 10, even 15+ years. I've been using it for 3 with no plans to stop.
Don't stop using Retin-A. I wish I had started 30 years ago. Regardless, after 10 werks of it, everyone I know stops me and compliments my stunning skin. Not bad for an over-sixty snow white and very sensitive complexion. Retin-A is changing my game.
How do u use retin a on your very sensitive skin? I am 25, have eczema and afraid to use tretinoin (i am currently using retinol). In my country tretinoin does not need prescription.
wow I cant believe the difference in your skin! when you kept saying fine lines I'm lik eWTF is she talking about!! You are so beautiful and look very young, your skin is phenomenal! I'm 41 now and need to take care of my skin, I've been through cancer 6 yrs ago so the chemo and radiation has aged me . its all good tho, never too late xoxo Michele
Thank you!!!! I used to HATE my skin, but I am so much more comfortable now :) You've been through a lot, I can't even imagine....but I bet you are harder on yourself than what others actually see :) XOXOX
Your after pictures are such great examples of how great retin-a can be. I started using retin-a about 2 months ago I hope my face looks as smooth as yours ❤️
Thanks Mel !! I have been using RetinA for years and always struggled with it, now I have the key - wait until skin is completely dry before using!! My sensitive skin thanks you SO much. I also just added my hydroquinone to my retinA and no problems I hope that my melasma fades as well as yours did. You ROCK!!!!!
Thank you so much for talking about the lightful c line.I am seven months pregnant and had really bad hormonal acne.Using the lightful c line for the past two weeks,I have already seen amazing results!!
Wow! You have come a long way with your skin! It looks dramatically improved! I am amazed at the difference! You are gorgeous, inside and out! Thanx for the detailed information and your thoughts on what you used. Very helpful for me! XOXOXO
Cerave is my holy grail I’ve heard dermatologists recommend it over expensive crazy stuff and they do recommend retin a in cerave cerimides, hydraulic acid ,Niacinamide’s
Wow the improvement is very very good!! I'm happy for you Mel! I also read beautypedia lol and thanks you let us know what's the ideal packaging to keep active ingredients stable, I think that is so important to take in consideration when it comes to choose the right skin care. honestly you have the most accurate skin care that I have seen on TH-cam.
try the Goodal SPF! they have an all physical sunscreen that's great for people who can't use chemical sun screen. asian SPF is just so much nicer than Western stuff.
I love your look! I just started using Renova (.02% tretinoin) about a month ago, so I love watching videos about Retin-A and such - especially for people who aren't "mature skinned" just yet. I've just been revamping my skincare, and have been making a few new videos on my channel about it. Thanks for the product suggestions!!! I'm definitely going to binge watch your videos, ha.
What a great video with lots of info. I really want to try the drunk elephant and I would definitely love to try retin a. Your skin is really beautiful. Thanks for the great video!
I'm so happy i found you. My poor mother suffers from sun spots like you had. Except hers are a lot worse. I'm going to try and get everything single thing you are using. Thank you so much for your honest and for putting this out there.
I am soooooo happy I came across this! Early 30s and my skin is almost identical to your before except I have even more dark spotting. I honestly thought I was the only person to be ageing young 😔 and figured I had no hope. 1st thing I'm doing tomorrow is heading to my gp, fingers crossed he agrees to give me a prescription. Ps you're absolutely gorgeous and you totally give me makeup envy 😘
You ROCK!!!!! After 10 days using hydroquinone and RetinA combined (and the 10 minute wait for my skin to totally dry) my melasma is 90% gone!!!!!!!!! I've had Fraxel and not this good of a response - seriously! I'm so crazy thankful and delighted by the results, I can't thank you enough!!
I have been on .1% Tretinoin for almost a year now. My smile lines were RED AND DRY! OMG. Painful to smile, too. When I started my neck it felt like a shell was on my skin. I started with too much product, too often. I'm back to 3-4x's a week but I still use it with a moisturizer. You have better results with no moisturizer? If so, I'll try that. Unfortunately I have not noticed very large results and by now, and I definitely I should have. But ... I've always used a toner, Tretinoin and then a moisturizer on top before bed. If just the Tretinoin is all I should be using before bedtime, I'll do that starting tomorrow. Thank you! 😊 You're looking sooo good! You can see it in your eyes with how much better you feel. So happy for you and great results! 👏🏻💞
Just an FYI I get my Purity and my Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash on QVC because I am able to by them in a 32 ounce bottle with a pump. The value us great and it's the only place I gave found such big bottles. Loved this video!
WOW!!!! That's amazing! Your makeup is Frakking Flawless in the after. Seriously. Amazing! I'm nearly 50 and have been a dedicated skincare regimen user since I bought my first eye cream at 12years old (funny story to that :). I battled cystic acne and now rosacea (it's always something..haha :( I've told the young women in my life to INVEST in the best skincare you can afford as it will pay off as you age. TFS! Love your channel 🤗💕
Juice Beauty oil free sunscreen is great for under makeup. I haven't had any problems. It just doesn't smell that great because it is natural but the small disappears within seconds.
Omg. Thanks for the pic. My skin looked like that with fine wrinkles and look dry though not peeling anymore. Every night I am thinking if I should stop since my skin still looked a bit dry with fine lines. I do notice my skin is firmer. Then I told myself many took 6-8 months to see some results and more after 1-2 years of usage to encourage myself to continue (especially so when my skin no longer peel). This pic of yours is encouraging me further. I hope my skin will be like yours after 6 months of retin a! ☺️😍
Hello, may I give you a advice, never stop retin a. I use retin a for long time now since my 20's and I have amazing results. the best is doing tca peel or laser and after restart retin a oh my God the results are just amazing. what I like is I have no wrinkles with beautiful skin texture my skin is full. I never had botox or filler. just tca peel and retin a . best product ever. never ever stop retin a .😊
***** hello I'm 40 now, you know people are focus on botox and filler but what make you looking young ? It's the quality of the skin, I made 5 Tca peel in 20 year's 3 in period of time of 1 years just before turning 40. I do Tca peel myself but the first two I went to the dermatologist I pay around 80 dollars for 35% Tca peel full face. Now I know are to do and how my skin react but I recommend going to the dermatologist if you never have Tca peel before this is very IMPORTANT. I done my Tca peel around my eyes too upper and lower eyelids and ît is as if I had a facelift around my eyes. Amazing results. So what I recommend to you , is to having few peel minimum 2 in period of time 1 years . During this period your skin she's gonna to renew and reborn by herself, new collagen new elastin make your skin full and clear. Do you use retin a? If you don't start right away and never stop. The first Tca peel is gonna to clean your skin from sun damage sunspots and star the repair process of the skin, after the 2 Tca peel you gonna to have kind of chemical facelift. After the third peel your skin is completely renewed no wrinkles amazing texture. Don't forget the neck ! This is what I recommend to you. The Base is retin a forget expensive cream use retin a with hyaluronic acid cream to hydrate your skin. Use retin a as the lotion not the cream much better .
Mel I just got retin A today and AOX eye and skinceuticals and obagi products as well from my dermatologist today ...omg cannot wait to start this tonight !!! 😘
Girl!! I have tried soooooo many different cleaners! And I don't like the Clinique cleanser(dries me out too much as well), and I still use the Philosophy sometimes. But, I have e suggestions that won't cost you an arm and a leg lol, but I think that you will love. And if you don't want to buy the full sizes, they all have little sizes as well, or even ask for a sample. I suggest the First Aid Beauty face cleanser, Korres Greek yogurt foaming cleanser and Fresh Soy cleanser!! Also, right now Korres has a large size cleanser and a jar of the nourishing sleeping facial in a set for a great value and now it just even went on sale from that! The First Aid Beauty cleanser is actually in a kit right now with a travel size and a bar version on sale for $10. And lastly, Fresh always has different kits with them in there and even some of the big Sephora Favorites usually come with one. I'm sure you being you have prob already tried at least 1 of these if not all, but these are cleansers that I love and feel are def worth the money.
You just have an amazing skin. I am glad you take good care of it. Retin-A is just amazing, and sunscreen should always be part of any person who wants to have a wonderful, great looking skin. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL...Blessings.
The results are awesome! Thank you so much for your dedication of documenting your skincare journey. Your skin looks as soft as a baby's bottom! :) Your eye cream, where to you purchase it?
I wish MAC would offer more of their moisturizers in stable packaging. I am obsessed with the studio moisture cream, which I buy in the squeeze tube. I've been really loving the turnaround moisturizer from Clinique (in a jar :/) and am interested in the MAC lightful C cream. I think the Clinique one has really helped with the texture on my skin. I have 4 pretty deep acne scars that haven't changed, but overall I think it's a lot smoother. I also love the MAC Vibrancy Eye for my undereyes. I'm thinking if getting something for my mother in law for her birthday (which is also mothers day haha) to help with her dark spots. The chemo she's on really makes her skin vulnerable to the sun. I'll probably have to ask her about what she can use because there's a lot of stuff she can't do on her treatments.
+Tayler Brumble I agree...I wish more companies in general would switch to stable packaging! I hope your mother is doing ok! I know that has to be very difficult.
Well first, you never looked as bad as you think you did. However, I am now on board to start Retin A after seeing this. How old are you may I ask? I am 50 so yeah.... I'm embarrassed to say that up to a couple months ago, all I did was use a cheap night time moisturizer. I am using good stuff...Peter Thomas Roth, OleHenrickson, Mario Badescu. I have acne scarring and wrinkles and PORES! Progress but I need Retin A. Thank you for this candid video.
I am currently almost 32. I think I was 30 when I filmed this. But, don’t feel bad. I never even washed my face...slept in my makeup until I was 26-27...I was terrible about skincare lol
I think I was a little more in the before, but not much. When I make that face now, the same thing just doesn't happen. It's a lot smoother. However, I'm not sure if it's the eye cream or the retin a that did most of the correcting but I do like the eye cream :)
"lotion" is just a hydrating toner in Asia. "softeners" are also popular products there so this is obviously an AB inspired product. Mac has a few of them now.
Just commenting because you said it was a lotion not a toner. Asian brands are so much more affordable but if Mac has another sale I'll have to try it!
I started using Retin A when I was 17. I used it for several years. It have permanent red skin from it. You are lucky it hasn't affected you like this.
Good for u Mel it's a huge difference great job!!! You are beautiful. I've been struggling using Tretinoin 0.5% for almost 8 months now I tried the whole titration thing it's just hard to do because the next day my face is red and hot very uncomfortable then to add make up for work...yuck. I've even cut it with a moisturizer. The derm said to try retinol instead because of my sensitive skin, but it will still be drying and my skin still needs to adjust so why not just use the "real" thing right? I think I'll start again because this is an inspiring video. I use the Refissa. What is the name of ur product?
Also apply 30 minutes after you wash your face to make sure your face is dry, if it's damp it'll penetrate quicker and can cause irritation if it's new to your skin
+Sylvia Carrasquillo Retinol is less aggravating on the skin. Some people just can never adjust. I would look into Paulas Choice, she has some great options. Wayne Goss talks about them a lot.
Hi Mel Ive watched all your retina A videos now. When your skin was at its worst with the initial peeling were you still able to put makeup on top of that and look good? Even when your skin was 'wet' and red from irriatation. I have my tretinion cream and Im ready to start im just a bit nervous about how to cover the irritation in the first few weeks Thanks!
ok thanks ! im starting the new Retan A reigimen tonight ... probably not the best time to start in the middle of Canadian winter haha oh well .........I stocked up on fix plus today ( and also picked up So Me retro matte lip OMG love it ) cheers Sarah
I have just overhauled my cleansing routine and also have sensitive skin as well and I have fallen in the with the Mario Badescu line if you ever are looking to try something new. How long did you use the Retin-A before you saw results?
What is the brand of the retin A you use? I see the two products are in similar bottles. What is the brand? I know it is prescription but wanted to know the brand please!
thank you for the video... i have just 1 question...were thise malesma patches you had? just want to know if retin A would work for malesma? im really fed up of wearing full coverage makeup and you can still see the discolourtion through..kinda like yours used to be.
Retin a alone won't do as much as the combo that I use. I had sun damage so I use a retin a that has hydroquinone in with it. That lightens the damage.
I have just now, about 10 months into it, being able to not use moisturizer with the retin a around my mouth and eyes. I still peel a little, but nothing that I can't deal with easily. What percentage do you use?
i keep reading that youre not supposed to put it under your eyes, but thats where im getting the fine lines..so what should i do? should i just stick with a retinol on my undereyes and retin-a on the rest of my face?
Mariah Zalera I use my retinol under my eyes, but very carefully. I don’t do right up to my lash line, I keep it on border of my cheek and under eye. That’s where the bulk of the fine lines are. And applying an eye cream first to the whole under eye, and letting it soak in, then applying the retinol is a great tip. Especially when you first start. Your skin takes a few months to get used to retinol. Be gentle and patient I’ve been using retinol for 2 years now and the different is staggering! Hope it works as well for you too!
I loved the video and loved ur confidence We all have skin issues I'm struggling now from sum marks and I'm on medication but after seeing your video I will talk to my dermatologist to start retinal Hope she agrees Cheers dear
First of all, how do so many viewers give this a thumbs down??? 🤔 Is it only possible to get retina A from a dermatologist? Where do you find the sunscreen? Thanks for sharing and all the knowledge! I would love to know how old you are...and know it's just a number 😘🍒
If it's not online...they didn't discontinue...just repackaging. I would check other sites that also carry MAC like Nordstrom, Belk, Dillards and Macys to see if they have it in stock. If not, don 't worry...It will come back out
Don't take this the wrong way, but I never realized how much makeup can change a person's appearance. Wow! I didn't realize it was you on the right until I noticed the tattoos
I wish hydroquinone didn't have the health risks...I totally need help with hyperpigmentation, but that shit scares me man. I wonder if you'd have such awesome results still if the retin a you used didn't have the hydroquinone in it??
I just can' understand why so many likes the purity ones, I got one in a Sephora favorites and it stinks..feel it almost have a alcohol scent.. I have it only as a backup if I suddenly don't have a small one to travel with but will never get a big one..
I have no plans either! it has made the biggest difference!
I started using it since 8/24/2019 and i like it. Have seen a little benefits but is too soon to see more results yet
Don't stop using Retin-A. I wish I had started 30 years ago. Regardless, after 10 werks of it, everyone I know stops me and compliments my stunning skin. Not bad for an over-sixty snow white and very sensitive complexion. Retin-A is changing my game.
Yes! I love it! I don't think could ever stop!
How do u use retin a on your very sensitive skin? I am 25, have eczema and afraid to use tretinoin (i am currently using retinol). In my country tretinoin does not need prescription.
We need to get this gal more subscribers she defiantly deserves them

+Trish B I am so happy to hear that!!!
I did a chemical peel and have had laser treatments and was not impressed. I am thinking Retin A is what I need
What % did you use both Retin A and hydroquinone? Is it safe to use hydroquinone long term? I heard it cause skin thinning?
I have been on .1% Tretinoin for almost a year now. My smile lines were RED AND DRY! OMG. Painful to smile, too. When I started my neck it felt like a shell was on my skin. I started with too much product, too often.

I've been using retin a for dark marks also. Thank you for the tips.

Thinking of getting that eye cream - are you squinting the same amount in the side by side pictures?
I think I was a little more in the before, but not much. When I make that face now, the same thing just doesn't happen. It's a lot smoother. However, I'm not sure if it's the eye cream or the retin a that did most of the correcting but I do like the eye cream :)
Totally gorgeous!
Your make up is beautiful So skillfully done.
Just discovered your videos. OBSESSED. I'm A Chanel makeup artist in Nashville!
Such strong features your beautiful ♥️
omfg girl that makeup though!!! i die!
Amazing!! Your gorgeous!!
"lotion" is just a hydrating toner in Asia. "softeners" are also popular products there so this is obviously an AB inspired product. Mac has a few of them now.
Yes! I love the MAC softening Lotion
Just commenting because you said it was a lotion not a toner. Asian brands are so much more affordable but if Mac has another sale I'll have to try it!
I just discovered your videos and they are fantastic. Did you find the clarisonic and/retinol helped with pores? Thanks x
Thanks!!!
They didn’t make them smaller but they both definitely help to keep them cleaned out and that in turn makes them appear smaller :)
I started using Retin A when I was 17. I used it for several years. It have permanent red skin from it. You are lucky it hasn't affected you like this.
I think you used to much too fast or maybe the strength was too much. Retin a can be a pain of the ass sometimes
How many time you are using ratin a or what is your age
Good for u Mel it's a huge difference great job!!! You are beautiful. I've been struggling using Tretinoin 0.5% for almost 8 months now I tried the whole titration thing it's just hard to do because the next day my face is red and hot very uncomfortable then to add make up for work...yuck. I've even cut it with a moisturizer. The derm said to try retinol instead because of my sensitive skin, but it will still be drying and my skin still needs to adjust so why not just use the "real" thing right? I think I'll start again because this is an inspiring video. I use the Refissa. What is the name of ur product?
Maybe go with the lowest strength? The 0.25%
Also apply 30 minutes after you wash your face to make sure your face is dry, if it's damp it'll penetrate quicker and can cause irritation if it's new to your skin
+Candi J Thnk u and yes I've done all that too.
+Sylvia Carrasquillo Retinol is less aggravating on the skin. Some people just can never adjust. I would look into Paulas Choice, she has some great options. Wayne Goss talks about them a lot.
+Puffins Wife thnk you Mel.
I was able to...but I always had to use a beauty blender. I couldn't use a brush or it would make it look worse.Oh, and a lot of MAC Fix +
ok thanks ! im starting the new Retan A reigimen tonight ... probably not the best time to start in the middle of Canadian winter haha oh well .........I stocked up on fix plus today
( and also picked up So Me retro matte lip OMG love it )
cheers Sarah
I have just overhauled my cleansing routine and also have sensitive skin as well and I have fallen in the with the Mario Badescu line if you ever are looking to try something new. How long did you use the Retin-A before you saw results?
I think that I started to see results around 3 months...even more so at 6
What is your lipstick brand
What is the brand of the retin A you use? I see the two products are in similar bottles. What is the brand? I know it is prescription but wanted to know the brand please!
it's just the brand of the Derm clinic that I go to... MDC Aesthetics
+Puffins Wife thanks :)
Supergoop is awesome! Smells good and makes my skin dewy!
Hello Mel, do you still ke using retine a during summer? And should we stop if we go to the beach?
I do...I just use a lot of sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. you just have to be a lot more careful.
what did you do to make your skin less oily? ur beautiful
Thank you!!!
I think the Retin A made my skin less oily
Also, any idea how much that entire list of products cost you? Just curious... Lastly, are any of those products crueltyfree, by chance? :)
I think that drunk elephant is cruelty free
I agree you're absolute gorgeous!
+Scott H Thank you!
Where do you get the Retin-A with the Hydroquinone? I currently only have straight Retin A, but would be interested in one with hydrocodone.
Question: how long did you do the Retin a to get the results?? Help you look Amazing and starting today and need to know timeframe🙂
I started to see results at about 3 months and then even more so at 6 months ❤️
thank you for the video... i have just 1 question...were thise malesma patches you had? just want to know if retin A would work for malesma? im really fed up of wearing full coverage makeup and you can still see the discolourtion through..kinda like yours used to be.
Retin a alone won't do as much as the combo that I use. I had sun damage so I use a retin a that has hydroquinone in with it. That lightens the damage.
Puffins Wife thankyou... i will give it a try... shall i expect peeling of some sort?
+Mariam K absolutely, but it shouldn't stay painful or anything.
+Puffins Wife thats great.. i hope i wont have trouble covering it while going to work. thanksyou for all that you. youre beautiful inside out.
Hi, did you ever stop peeling? I've been using retin a for over a year and I still peel.
I have just now, about 10 months into it, being able to not use moisturizer with the retin a around my mouth and eyes. I still peel a little, but nothing that I can't deal with easily. What percentage do you use?
Wonderful video!!
i keep reading that youre not supposed to put it under your eyes, but thats where im getting the fine lines..so what should i do? should i just stick with a retinol on my undereyes and retin-a on the rest of my face?
Mariah Zalera I use my retinol under my eyes, but very carefully. I don’t do right up to my lash line, I keep it on border of my cheek and under eye. That’s where the bulk of the fine lines are.
And applying an eye cream first to the whole under eye, and letting it soak in, then applying the retinol is a great tip. Especially when you first start. Your skin takes a few months to get used to retinol. Be gentle and patient
I’ve been using retinol for 2 years now and the different is staggering! Hope it works as well for you too!
Gorgeous girl!
Were can I buy ratin A without doctors prescription please share the link thanks
Snoeppie Dough for retin-a, you have to have a prescription
I loved the video and loved ur confidence
We all have skin issues
I'm struggling now from sum marks and I'm on medication but after seeing your video I will talk to my dermatologist to start retinal
Hope she agrees
Cheers dear
Your eye's look stunning in the video.
+susan moore Thank you!
You're so pretty!
How much are your Retin-A products?
For my prescription, it’s 40$ for the bottle I used to get with the combo at the dermatologist, it was 75$
So beautiful 💕💕💕
Great info, thank you!
Good Job, I love Retina A also.
First of all, how do so many viewers give this a thumbs down??? 🤔
Is it only possible to get retina A from a dermatologist?
Where do you find the sunscreen? Thanks for sharing and all the knowledge! I would love to know how old you are...and know it's just a number 😘🍒
is the clarisonic good to use while on retin a??? I heard its to harsh since retin a already exfoliates the skin.
Yup! My dermatologist said for me keep using it while using the retin a. It helps exfoliate
thanks!:)
Hey Mel, how do I find the softening lotion? did they discontinue? :(
If it's not online...they didn't discontinue...just repackaging. I would check other sites that also carry MAC like Nordstrom, Belk, Dillards and Macys to see if they have it in stock. If not, don 't worry...It will come back out
Can you please list your dermatologist. I would like to get this form of Rentin a that you use?
What is the exact brand name?
Please and thank u
I go to a dermatologist in TN. But the exact product I use is HQRA+ which is basically retin a plus hydroquinone
Don't take this the wrong way, but I never realized how much makeup can change a person's appearance. Wow! I didn't realize it was you on the right until I noticed the tattoos
Asian wedding makeup is very transformative makeup too
I wish hydroquinone didn't have the health risks...I totally need help with hyperpigmentation, but that shit scares me man. I wonder if you'd have such awesome results still if the retin a you used didn't have the hydroquinone in it??
I tried just retin a ... but it definitely didn't have the same affect without the hydroquinone.
My goodness, you’re adorable without makeup as well!
Amazing. Can I ask how old you are?
I’m now 32
So you were 30 there! That’s incredible! I’m 29 and noticing a lot of sagging so this gives me hope.
I just can' understand why so many likes the purity ones, I got one in a Sephora favorites and it stinks..feel it almost have a alcohol scent.. I have it only as a backup if I suddenly don't have a small one to travel with but will never get a big one..
+Maria Therese Hatløy huh! That's so crazy! I don't find that mine really has a smell at all
Not to put you down but I’m 41 and I am researching it like crazy
Aw...interesting. Tysm for letting me know. I've been wondering that for a bit. haha. xxo
Damn this girl is so gorgeous ❤️
Thank you!!! So kind!!!
It would be nice if she took a photo of the final update without makeup to see the comparison of both pics with bare skin.
I did. There’s 3 videos, this is the last. Second video in the description box has some no makeup comparisons.
AWESOME
It remove the acne scar
you have such a nice skin and beautiful face
