    Just bought the firebiner! Excited to add this to my stove kit. I used to have matches. I like that tactile feeling of starting a fire. A lighter just doesn't do it for me. This will substantially lighten my pack. Yay thanks for making this!

      haha! natural fibers can be smacked out (if they are small) ...the synthetic fires are dangerous to the hand. Ask Mojica about the time his daughter's polyester fleece jacket was on fire. That was a bad deal. ...but he did find out that egg whites take out the sting from the burn :)

    Promising product. Any idea if this is TSA-friendly? Also if it gets wet , will it still work after the spark wheel is dried enough?

    • @outdoorelement
      @outdoorelement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great questions. YES! is this TSA friendly (except in China or Taiwan) and yes I have purposefully dropped this in a small stream, dried it off (as best as possible) and after about 4 tries it sparks right back up!

    have three of your firebeaners, one on my keychain, one on my edc bag, and one on my go bag in my jeep. I can't seem to cut paracord with the cutter is there a way to sharpen it or is it just designed to cut thinner coradage?

    • @outdoorelement
      @outdoorelement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment and for supporting small business! I really think it is better suited for thinner lines (like some monofilament). I have cut paracord with it a couple of times and it is ugly and takes way too long. Have you tried our Fire Escape? The cutter on this will slide through paracord (and seatbelts) like no one's business.

    VERY cool item. I have one and I can vouch for it. Where can I get extra flints for it? I lost the original packaging which held the extras.

      Thanks for your comment. Couple of things
      1. The spark wheel is one directional ...there should be a little arrow laser etched on the carabiner to show the direction. if rotated the other way it might throw a tiny spark...or none at all.
      2. if you spark it all the time, the ferro rod is a consumable. it will wear out. two things you can do, we designed it so that the set screw can be adjusted deeper. Give that a few turns and the spring in there will provide more compression against the rod and wheel. if the rod is completely worn out, remove the set screw and spring and throw in a new ferro rod.
      At trade shows, we have literally made 30 fires in one day (with our tinder quiks -waxed infused cotton...Vaseline soaked cotton balls work just as well) ...in addition to starting our camp stove 20 times that same day

      sorry for the lateness of my reply, it was in no way your fault or mine, the package it was in was left outdoors in bad weather by the delivery company, i didnt think this would be such a problem but after a few days left alone indoors it works fine.
      also im glad a friend of mine has told me i can use those old flints from lighters too

    The fact that this doesn't seem to be a sure fire option (pun intended) in and of itself with natural tinder, such as wood shavings, dry twigs and leaves, has me skeptical about this product's actual value as a survival tool. Seems too reliant on specific conditioned burn materials to catch flame.

    • @outdoorelement
      @outdoorelement  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Earl, thanks for your thoughts, we can appreciate them. With fire-making implements, 2 is 1 and 1 is none. We always recommend having at least 2 different ways to make fire. We recently had a customer tell us of a canoe trip she was on. Right before she reached her camping spot, the canoe flipped and somehow soaked her "dry bag" with the matches. She shared with us, it was the firebiner that gave her fire that night. We are not against Bic lighters or matches. This can serve as your plan B ...The firebiner is also excellent for camp stoves. If you have an MSR pocket Rocket, it will really shine here. ...or if your piezo starter fails, the Firebienr will shine. Hope this helps, see you on the trails

    • @outdoorelement
      @outdoorelement  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      One other thing: it could be dangerous to only rely solely on natural tinder to get your fire started. If you happen to hit a really wet/damp day, it can cause a lot of heartache and frustration. We always recommend carrying some sort of drybag with fire tinder. There is a ton of great options out there @Protekcamp and @FiberlightFS make some great options to keep handy.
