- Hello & Welcome back to another video,
In this video we are south of Adelaide to get engine protection, modifications and a tune done at performance diesel tuning. We go from 350nm to 600nm at the wheels which has transformed the car. If you're looking at getting your 70 series or 200 series tuned these are the guys to speak to.

Can’t recommend Daniel & the fellas at PDT highly enough. I started with a unichip in my 76 which caused lots of dramas, then an ECU tune which was awful, before Dan sorted it out. All the mods you have done Matt are no brainers, it sucks you have to spend the coin but it makes it an epic ride
It’s probably the best thing I’ve done to the car so far.
That rare bar is very mint, looks great on the rig! Love the build! Greetings from PNG!
All that power, goes like a rocket ship. Should be able to beat any cement truck or school bus now. Perfect for track days. 🚀
Its more the torque delivery, not working through gears and revving its head off on highways, general day to day driving and overtaking all using the same if not better fuel economy that I'm liking. But I can also really get some use out of the in-built stop watch at tracks.
Good sensible upgrades
The air box is a known problem
The clutch is a weak link after horsepower upgrades
The fuel filters are a no brainer
Exhaust and bonnet mods are just sensible
Great vid guys as usual
I have done most of these mods to my vehicle as well …
Love the plates !
The difference the tune has made to driving the car day to day is awesome, I couldn’t recommend it enough for people considering it.
Excited that you guys got a new troopy and building it. Sad that I have to wait for a while to watch your new adventures in the new troopy. Love you guys 💕
Fantastic video, good to see you are not comprising reliability for big noise n broken bits, can't wait to see your shakedown and thoughts video
The Farm Truck is looking the goods
I spoke with Daniel at the Adelaide 4wd show. Great bloke and will be taking my 76 series when it arrives. Stay well guys!
They are really genuine blokes and know what they’re doing :) couldn’t be happier with how mine has turned out
Constructive feedback: It would be good to show close-up B-roll footage of the gear, as you're talking about them. I realise they were shown earlier on the footage, but showing them again when actually talking about it is far more relevant. Then the viewers get to look at specific details being mentioned, as it is mentioned. Looks like "Sarge" is coming alone nicely. 😁
👍
Fair enough! I did think that but I though the start was enough…. Cheers mate!
Thanks for sharing all the detail. I am justing waiting on them to sort gearbox temp using ScanGauge III X-gauge for the new DMax. It's been solved for the ScanGauge II but not for the III yet.
Hey mate. The build videos are fantastic. Keep it up. My 76 just had birthday, not finished yet, but will send you some pics. I have already learnt some new things from your vid and got a few ideas from your build. And my rocket is almost 12 years old. Hopefully see you guys soon. Trying to talk Cam and court into the Creb track next year. Safe travels from Ridgo. PS. Harriet stills wears her Elsie shirt every week to Kindy. (Back the front some days because she likes the "truck" on the front)
Hey Ridgo! Keen to see the new paint mate I reckon that's definitely worth it. If you do the Creb track id be very keen to come up for that. Good to hear you've got some ideas out of it there is a lot more to go on though! Haha she will grow out of it soon we will have to send her another one.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO
Matt thanks for the video 👍👍👍
Not all chips increase fuel pressure and don't control boost. Pay decent money and you get a good one mine increase the opening time of the fuel injectors and controls and increases the boost
Turning into a Beast 👌👌
Thanks mate!
Looks good! Not sure I’d be brave enough to tune a brand new engine!
I agree it had me thinking but I trust the boys at PDT and they say new engines have no issues they have done hundreds with similar kms :)
Still happy with the work mate? Im in Adelaide and cant decide who to go through. Seems prices have dropped a bit since covid
Hasn’t missed a beat! Would do it again in heartbeat
Be interesting to see the intake temps before the intercooler screen and after
Apparently no appreciable difference
hi guys
i was wondering if the auto up window mod was a plug and play type mod or a wiring deal.
to me it goes into the box of 'should have been done by factory' fixes.
cheers
You need to solder a small diode in the correct spot
@@OverlandTravellers ok thanks.
Appreciate the reply
great video, awesome car.. But: I remember you made fun out of all these mods on a 70 series cruiser... I know times changing.. keep on with the good work
When did I make fun of it?
@@OverlandTravellers in the king awning sucks video... back in your years with the hilux... it wasn't meant as an offense
@@tommyinoz2100 if you go back and listen to the video from 50 seconds in, I literally said “there is nothing more I’d like to do than get a 70 series and immediately void the warranty” then I went on to list all the ridiculous mods I’d do to it. I wasn’t making fun, I was describing my dream. Times are a changing!
its coming along! very nice! arr you going to regear for the bigger tyres? Hercules chop eventually?
Not going to worry about re gearing and eventually a roof chop and going. new one coming to market
Just interested whether that tune was done on a dyno? Didn't see one in the vid.
Good watching the build.
Thanks
For sharing
Road tune for this but they can do dyno
Why didn't you go for a dyno tune? Personally only a dyno tune is the way to go.
How has the fuel economy been now that you've had it 12months?
Personalized number plate spotted!
The troupe has a nice note to it now. By the way love those plates. Looking forward to more adventures in the future in outback Australia 🇦🇺
Cheers mate we like it as well. Not loud on the highway but sounds nice.
What's the overall lift on the suspension set-up? Not including the bigger tyres
Just 2 inch mate…. Sits really well…. Looks huge though!
@@OverlandTravellers yeah looks good ay, not to high.
Great video guys, troopy really coming along nice. In regards to the inline pre filter and catch can I’ve just ordered a new hilux and wanted to add these also but my sales guy at Toyota informed my that this will void warranty. Was this a consideration for you guys ? T. I. A keep the great content coming 🍺
Yes we did think about this. This car will have so many different mods it was always going to happen. I have heard Toyota not honor warranties for engine issues because there was bigger tyres on the vehicle…. They’re pretty good at coming up with reasons not to honor it apparently. At the same time I know someone with a secondary filter on their 200 and it was new and had injector issues and they honored it, but it was stock besides that and they were good customers. I think it’s up to you at the end of the day sorry I don’t have a very good answer for you.
@@OverlandTravellers no worries, I think I’m going to add them anyway as I think the benefits out way the risk that these mods will cause an issue 🍺
@@rickbonnici also to not honor a warranty they have to prove its a result of the modification and not something just going wrong.
very nice
One thing I would like to add. Being in America where all the rednecks just power and more power to overcome the larger tyres I have a good perspective on power. You may want to look at changing your axle ratios to match the tyre size and weight. Not only does that bring the engine back into its torque range but it also puts less stress on the rest of the drivetrain. Just my 2-1/2 cents!
These V8’s have such a flat torque curve it’s hardly necessary
Standard they have max torque from approximately 1600 rpm all the way to 3500!
These engines are MASSIVELY under rated as stock
Heaps of room for improvements
@@batmanlives6456 If you read those other posts i apologize. I was responding to a Chevy v8 thread not realizing i was on this one. LOL.
@@batmanlives6456 I know how good they are. I can't wait to put the one we are getting into the Tacoma my business partner has. It does help put less stress on everything though but yes I wish it was easier to get some decent engines here in the USA.
For someone without social media, I don’t suppose you have a phone or website address for PDT? I am struggling to find them in Adelaide but I like the sound of the work they have done on your car.
Hey mate if you type in “Performance Diesel Tuning Goolwah” they should pop up in either a google search or Facebook :) they are a really great bunch of bloke that know what they’re doing.
@@OverlandTravellers sadly, they only come up with Facebook and Instagram and as I’m not on either, I can’t navigate to any other contact details. Not your issue of course, but if you do have a phone number that would be great.
@@peterj5751 hey mate send Tom and email Tom@performancedieseltuning.com.au

@@OverlandTravellers 👍
Awaiting Troopy delivery. Would be nice to see a detailed list of mods and fitted costs.
Yep we have a spreadsheet with costs and we will be doing an episode just on that for people. Would you prefer a video with running costs of mods so far or all in one video at the end?
@@OverlandTravellers Both
Diff, gearbox and transfer case breathers?
@@4XDestinations will be going on in the future
Noice. Very noice. So when is the roof top conversion happening? 😁
Early next year!
Why not wait and see how you guys can cope with it ?
@@binqatami already done it without for a couple of years keen to see how it goes
@@OverlandTravellers ASPW @ 4X0 has done both Alu-Cab and Alu-Innovations roof top conversations to his Troopies, and he says, the latter is a better unit. After watching his comparison and reasoning video between the two, I tend to agree with him. The Alu-Innovations exterior design seems to follows the original lines of the Troopy better. IMO it looks better. And I like the full length roof rails on the Alu-Innovations vs parts only in the Alu-Cab. Giving you more options if you plan to carry something on your roof.
What’s the primary reason for the clutch upgrade?
@@Eddie_-_ to handle the extra power and torque
@@OverlandTravellers OK thanks. So without the tuning, no need to upgrade the clutch?
@@Eddie_-_ no you should be fine but just keep it in mind if you’re towing heavy loads etc
how is the new troopy vs old troopy? much difference on road? more solid? is the steering heavier with the big wheels?
They couldn’t be more different….. the new one is better in every single way shape and form. The 40 series was a rough uncomfortable car in 1981 let alone in todays standard. The old one doesn’t have power steering so it’s chalk and cheese. But let’s be honest the old one is still cooler 😎
@@OverlandTravellers id say you can make the new one just as cool if you keep going. its looking very capable with the wheels lift etc.
Where’s the bullbar, winch and lights?
Haven't been put on yet.
was their a dyno involved with this map or just a standard file upload?
They did a road tune. They can do a dyno tune if you want. We just didn’t have time before eve Adelaide show but they said results would be very similar.
Am i right in saying the only difference is road or rollers?
Have to love Toyotas, buy them and then spend the same again to make them do what they were meant to do and actually work well! 😂
Obviously these mods wipe out the warranty (on the engine and drive line) is that something you took into consideration and planned for if anything does pop up?
To be honest Toyota is pretty good at coming up with ideas not to honour a warranty and this car will be quite heavily modified so they'll come up with something engine tune or not. I did definitely take it into consideration and we will keep it well maintained and drive it correctly.
What’s the outcome on economy after a while? Any improvement?
1.8-2L better per 100. We calculated that saved us $65 on the way home :)
What about Diff breathers?
On the list
12L per 100km. crazy. Jealous of those numbers.
12.6 - 13L at the moment :) about 2L better per 100
Say goodbye to your 5 year Toyota warranty
👋🏻
@@OverlandTravellers how much did the tune cost and what kind of warranty to the boys provide and does it cover the whole engine?
Unfortunately this episode just sounded like an advertisement for PDT
What’s wrong with advertising/promoting a grass roots Aussie business doing good work using practically all Aussie made products?
@@OverlandTravellers nothing wrong with promoting these types of businesses unless you are getting the products and labour alot cheaper and if so I suppose it would be good to let your viewers know
Tell me a TH-cam channel that doesn’t promote brands? Called networking, Matt and holly are providing pdt coverage and a chance to promote their hard work and business in exchange for what ever the deal they had.
No different from them mentioning their roof top or camping equipment they use.
Just remember nothing is for nothing!
